JoBParticipantthey charged rape victims for their own rape kits?
really?
did they charge burglary victims to have crime scene evaluations?
did they charge assault victims for evaluations?
too ugly if true.

beachdrivegirlParticipantNot sure if it is still the case, but a few years ago in Pullman, WA they were charging rape victims for their own rape kits too. They tried to spin it that it was okay though b/c most times it was covered by insurance. The sad thing is that it discouraged one of my best friends not to get a rape kit done b/c she was to embarrassed as to what her parents would think since she was still on their insurance.

JoBParticipantThis is something i honestly didn’t know about.
And it is one more reason why it is so important to elect both a democratic president and a democratic congress so we can put pressure on them immediately to secure basic equality for women.
it is not an equal world when the victim of a rape crime is charged for the processing of that crime… unless all crime victims pay for the processing of their crime. A rape victim’s body is a crime scene.
I am not sure what it will take for young women to realize that they don’t have equal rights yet and that we need to do something about this… but this alone ought to be a good indicator.
Palin, the female mayor who wouldn’t make sure that rape victims in her town were provided with rape kits. Yeah, she’s really be making history for women…

i was involved in what you are calling catfights… and the fight was over who would be the best person to represent the democratic party… not over whether either candidate was qualified.
But of course you know that.” ah, THAT’S BULL.
The proof is in the posts.

Tonya42: ‘Amazing person’ or not – do your views actually line up with Palin on all the significant issues, or are you simply Republican?
I am an independent with conservatove leanings. I used to be a Libertarian.
In Seattle specifically, where a multitude of different religions are practiced, where nearly 13% of the population is gay or lesbian, where community volunteers do have great responsibility and are respected, where people are embracing new practices to lessen their toll on the environment – do you really believe in the following…to name a few?
– Ban on gay marriage? Plain supports Gay rights
– Abstinance-only education in schools? No, I don’t agree with that and I don’t think that is what would occur.
– Drill for oil with no limits on environment (even pushing to have animals removed from endangered list to make it easier)Drilling yes and we’ve never drilled without limits, why would you think we would start now???
– Teaching creationism (aka the christian bible) in schools. I am catholic, a rotten one at that. I go to church maybe once twice a year but I will die a catholic. I am also in the field of science/healthcare and public health. I am one of those whacky people that think our children deserve all sides and they themselves can develop their own perogotives.
Someone was chirping earlier, everything ok up there?

What do you mean put my money where my mouth is? Please clarify or use different words.

JoBParticipantTonya42,
since i posted 90%… or more… of one side of the political conversation concerning the democratic primary, i think i probably don’t need to go back and look at the posts.
I had concerns about Obama then.. and i still have some of those concerns. I really liked Hillary’s passionate support of women and children.. and wish Obama was more vocal on those issues. And i wish he had more experience before taking on the top job.
But most of my concerns about Obama were about the asociations i knew about… that i was sure the republican right would try to make diversions out of in the national election…
and of course, they have done so… anything to avoid actually talking about how most americans are doing and what we can do to change things for the better for the middle class.
However, you are sadly mistaken if you think that my choice of Hillary means that i thought for any reason that would not make a good president. i just thought Hillary would make a better one.
Nor did i ever so much as hint that i thought McCain would make a better president than Obama. You should look back to the McCain thread that was going at the same time as the primary. In fact, i seem to remember saying i would support any living breathing democrat over McCain.
As it happened, even though i didn’t get my first pick, i did get a candidate i can and do support with integrity.
For McCain, change is just a buzzword… it means just about as much as maverick.

JoBParticipantnow guys…
Whether Tonya is going to vote or not, she still gets to have an opinion.
it’s just that come election day, hers won’t count much unless she is a citizen and can vote.

JenVMember“If you don’t vote, don’t bitch” – unknown who said it first, but Steve Earle is the last name that comes to mind. This would also mean, if you’re not going to vote, don’t stir the sh*t just to stir the sh*t.

RainyDay1235MemberThank you very much for answering my questions Tonya42.
When I said “no limits”, I was simply referring to what appears to be a very poor record as a public steward of the environment, for lack of a better term.

JoBParticipantTonya42,
libertarian? independent? confused?
you think Palin supports gay rights because she didn’t try to cancel our spousal benefits in her state?
I think she just knew an unpopular position when she saw one. In Alaska, unmarried partners are far more prevalent than gay partners.
and you think children should be taught creationism (religious theory) along with science in their schools so they can make up their own minds? isn’t that teaching religion in schools?
as for drilling … would you want them to exercise the drilling rights they already own before you ask for more? that will take decades at the most conservative estimates.
In the meantime, the polar bear is delisted.
and lastly.. what you think won’t happen in sex ed already has in many places…
September 11, 2008 at 1:08 am #638417
JanSParticipantDear, dear Tonya…what about this question don’t you inderstand…Are you voting for McCain/Palin ticket in November? Is that a clear enough question for you to get?
“Put your money where your mouth is” is an old American colloquialism..it just means are you gonna back up what you’ve been saying …and in this case, by voting for McCain and that “awesome” VP candidate Palin.
Hope I’ve explained it better :)

WSMomParticipantMcCain/Palin: Change we can believe in???
Palin team stocked with Bush veterans
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13323.html
“This new team of aides and advisers brings years of experience in Republican politics, and includes many who worked for President Bush in the White House and on his two campaigns. They will bring a similarly aggressive mindset as campaign chief Steve Schmidt, also a veteran of the disciplined Bush-Cheney effort.”
“Traveling with her and working with the press are Tracey Schmitt and Tucker Eskew. Each is taking a leave from private sector public relations-related jobs to work the final stretch.
Schmitt worked on both Bush campaigns and ran the Republican National Committee communications shop before leaving a year ago to work for a biopharma company. Eskew is a longtime GOP strategist who was a top aide in the first Bush campaign and later worked in the White House before co-founding his own public affairs firm.”
I say eight years is enough :)

acemotelParticipantCheck out the look on McCain’s face (when he isn’t stealing longing glances at her fanny again) when Palin says that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac “have gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.” (sic)
Sorry if this has been posted already, I hadn’t seen the actual clip.
September 11, 2008 at 3:22 am #638420
hellonwheels206MemberI have never seen the country so divisive as the last eight years. Is this what the country’s public has become..”us against them”…what about the country?
I thought McCain was going to run a clean campaign and stick to the best for American. Evidently he has changed his mind once again. I was going to support him in 2000…I thought he was the one that offered the best. Whew! I had read enough about the Bush’s to know that was not where we needed to go.
Does a true Republican care about the good of our country, or just the good for the Republicans? How can you have good Christian values and not care about the entire society and what will benefit all…..
McCain has yet to explain how he is going to pay for permanent tax cuts????
People were misinterpreting his claim that “Obama will raise your taxes”…he was addressing his comfortable supporters at the convention and Obama WILL raise their taxes. The “the trickle down theory” has proven to be a miserable failure for the majority of the citizens.
Because of my age I have personally known numerous Viet Nam veterans…most will not talk about their experiences even in the most private of settings….even with their spouses in many cases…it is just too horrific….these veterans are shocked to witness McCain’s tactic to use this experience…it is demeaning. Yes, it should be acknowledged and honored, but to use it repeatedly as a strategy is disgusting…I have heard the comment..”well, it wouldn’t qualify me to run the country.” Many veterans carry guilt that they came through and so many of their friends, relatives, and comrades didn’t. It is a deeply painful wound that will never heal.
Carl Rove said last night on Fox that the opponents panic and then they start to use a smear campaign…he was referring to the Obama Campaign….I love to watch Fox and just love to see how they are going to skew the truth.
John McCain must be in a real panic!!
