jrwhite760MemberHi, my family and I just moved here after losing our house in California. We have been here about a month now and I still haven’t found a job. I was wondering if anyone on here had any recommendations, I have been in customer service for over ten years and am good at that, but am open to any job ideas and am a quick learner. Any ideas are greatly appreciated thank you! 206-390-5157 or jrwhite760@yahoo.com

JanSParticipanthi..welcome to West Seattle. You might check under the Forum heading ” West Seattle Jobs offered” There have been a few offered lately..not sure if they’re up your alley, but you might as well check.

JiggersMemberI’m a quick learner too…lol. But there isn’t enough jobs out there right now as I had to downsize myself to a pitiful part-time position that I hate going to until I can get back into what I love doing. Best place to start is temporary hired services. At least you’ll get a reference base/network going. Good luck.. because a lot of folks are in the same boat.

JanSParticipantjiggers..interesting. I have a friend who worked “temp” jobs for years..made enough to survive between jobs, and basically liked where he worked when he was working. He’s now a civilian working at the shipyard in Bremerton permanently…calls it the “shi*yard”.Some of those temp jobs can be quite lucrative, I understand.

celeste17ParticipantTry craigslist seattle. I am currently looking for work also and I am finding jobs to apply for there sometimes.

TheHouseMemberI just sent you a Private Message with my work contact. The company I work for has several positions open in and around the area (none in West Seattle though).

beachdrivegirlParticipantI have also sent you a p/m with my office information. we are also hiring. good luck.

charlabobParticipantI’ll send you a PM when I get home from work; (temp gig, ending Friday). Just want to say be sure and read the contract with any agency. They have interesting limitations with regard to YOUR exclusivity that you may want to negotiate.
If you can afford a few $, contact Sherri Edwards–www.resourcemaximizer.com. She’s very effective in helping you with job searches. I’ve worked with her for 4 years and she helped me crawl out of a serious slough of despair. :-)
Good luck! (And welcome to the community — you can see that we really are a community.)

DianeParticipantI’ve lived in West Seattle 10 yrs; I’ve applied for literally 100’s of jobs in past few months, few interviews; would love to know name of any companies that are hiring; most job wanted ads are receiving 500 – 1000 replies, so very hard to get noticed; thanks for your help

ComposerParticipantIt seems like a while since anyone posted to this. What is the current job market like? I used to run my own company, but now I cannot find anything. I have lowered my expectations to anything I am capable of. Any new leads out there????? Thanks

GracianoParticipant@Composer, not sure what sort of job you’d like but Charlie’s Produce in the SODO area has lots of openings, warehouse, drivers, A/P, A/R, CSR… apply online at Charliesproduce.com

22bladesParticipantThe “shi..yard” that Jan S referred to is Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. One of the largest employers in the region. It has a variety of apprenticeships where you can, if you take the initiative to, gain advanceable and/or marketable skills. Before retiring from there, my father was involved in some of these trade programs alongside the various trade unions. When I lived in the area, I had truly amazing friends and neighbors that spun off their knowledge to me (to make me the gearhead that I am). One of the skills I learned was how to do big things with very little. Some of the work is some truly amazing, “big” stuff. When I was a high schooler, I had summer jobs in another naval shipyard. A truly amazing experience, especially if like working with your hands and mind. As a bonus, the cost of living will be markedly less on the Kitsap Peninsula.
Good luck to you and your family with your search. My only advice; Get lucky, but be prepared to get lucky when the chance crosses paths.

anonymeParticipantThere used to be a prohibition against ‘work wanted’ ads. Is this still the case? I don’t see the rules posted any more…
