dapuffinParticipantOur 1997 Rav4 just died. Suddenly. =(
(a moment of silence please)
We need to get a new car and pretty quickly… like this weekend. We’re thinking of Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris or Mazda 3. Any suggestions for dealerships around here? And any experience with the above-mentioned models? MrPuffin commutes from West Seattle to Kirkland each day, and we really need a good efficient car. As for me, I ride Metro.
Thanks in advance.

GenHillOneParticipantBig fan of Toyota of Seattle (and Honda of Seattle is the same company)…great service/maintenance, no commissions. Are you sure the Rav can’t be revived?

dapuffinParticipantMrPuffin was told that the Rav would need a new engine. We bought it in 1997 at Bob Bridge/Renton. They’ve done all of the maintenance on it over the years. I don’t *think* they’d say it needed a whole new engine if it wasn’t so. >sigh<
Thanks for vote of confidence on Toyota/Honda of Seattle. I’ll check them out.

RonMParticipantHmmn, a new engine shouldn’t cost more than a new car. Anyway, as a long time VW owner (since 1962), I broke the mold and bought a new Prius in 2002. Burien Toyota. Dealt with salesmen as briefly as possible, but have had good experience with their service department. Nothing seriouos has gone wrong yet, but the scheduled maintenances have been reasonable and the personel helpful and knowledgable.

dapuffinParticipantI think a new engine will be around $5k. MrPuffin is on his way home from work now, so we need to do some talking when he gets home. I’ve really loved the Rav, though the gas mileage is not very good. Tough choices here to be made and quickly.

WSBKeymasterWe have two Hondas, though neither is that model. Bought the newer one in Renton. Honda of Seattle is our favorite place for maintenance, tho. — TR, Honda fan

shihtzuParticipantI bought from Lynnwood Honda and was very happy. Seattle Honda was waaaaaay to pushy, cheesy car-salesmany for me.

dapuffinParticipantFollow up. After thinking through whether to put in a new motor on the Rav and after a very long day today, we went to a few different Honda dealerships and ended up getting a 2008 Honda Fit Sport from Honda of Seattle. Thank you all for your input. BTW, we were FAR from impressed with Honda of Bellevue.

GenHillOneParticipantCongrats on your new addition to the family – the Fit is very cute and probably good on gas too! Glad it worked out :)

swimcatMemberCongrats on the new car purchase- you’ll love your honda! I have taken my Civic to Honda of Seattle for some repairs that were for warrantied honda parts and I doubt you’ll be disappointed with their service department. Friendly staff, convenient location…
I’m not a huge fan of Bellevue Honda either (especially their service department), but I have gone on test-drives with Marco recently and he is very knowledgable, fun, helpful and patient.

vmdMemberOne thing people may not know, but if you belong to Costco, you can get Costco based pricing at local dealers. It takes the whole slime factor out of buying a new car – the prices is great and you just walk in an get the keys. You do have to go to the ‘managers’ office for the standard security systems/fabric protection sales push, but if you bring a two year old with you, it doesn’t last long!

grrParticipantI’ll second the Costco thing. And, I’m a big fan of Mazda’s. Love mine.
