So a little garden visitor poked its rump out of the hole it was digging in my garden this morning and I realized – Hey! That’s a MOLE!

Not sure I want it tunneling around in there. Anyone have effective methods of mole deterrent that are also kid-safe? (We have a 2-year-old that’s even harder to keep out of the garden than a mole!)

D’oh meant to put this in Open Discussion…

We have several neighborhood cats that make the rounds thru the yard every day. So far they’re only interested in using my garden as a litter box!

My FIL used to use a shovel and try to kill them with it. Not recommending that. LOL!

Ciscoe often mentions this “mole blaster” recipe on Gardening with Ciscoe: http://www.ciscoe.com/garden/topics/moles.html

I don’t know anything about it, but he swears by it.

Can’t say as we’ve ever had a mole problem here in our little space (knock on wood) but I’ve definitely heard that the Ciscoe recipe works. Let us know if you use that and how it works out!

Note that moles can be beneficial.

That is noted on this page along with suggested non-dangerous ways to deter them (despite the toxic-sounding domain name)

I surfed around from the links above and found this info from WSU: http://gardening.wsu.edu/library/lawn001/lawn001.htm

My shibas do a pretty good job of keeping moles out of the yard:)

unfortunately, they do a pretty good job of keeping visitors out of the house too:(
