First of all “hide the dook” is now going in my lexicon. Second of all I’m just having a really hard time imagining someone keeping their trash can indoors and not in a garage.

Cait—LOL! I was trying to figure out why someone would keep their garbage can indoors too!

Occasionally, people leave a filled dog poop bag in my garbage can. Doesn’t bother me. Glad they are picking it up.

My garbage can stays outside and I don’t make a practice of smelling it whenever I put something in there. ;0)

My point is that we don’t know what or where people put their trash can, so we shouldn’t assume it’s cool with them that we do whatever it is we would want to do with their trash can. But hey, I’ve had fun discussing poop for this long and am all tingly that it made it to 2 pages!

Cait – if you liked hide a dook, think about adding upper decking to your lexicon.

cait: some of us have functional attached garages and don’t relish the smell of dog crap every time we park our cars or need to get a screwdriver.

i keep all three of my cans in the garage until tuesday morning because i think it’s wise to keep garbage out of the reach of raccoons and crows. and windstorms.

can some of you dog-walkers – or their advocates – please explain to me why you can’t simply pack the dog shit home with you? is it laziness? or is it just not fashionable to carry a baggie of excrement?

it’s your dog. the poop comes with the dog.

don’t like the poop? don’t have a dog.

you folks have a lot of nerve implying that you’re entitled to foist it on other people – and then publicly contorting yourselves trying to justify doing so when those other people complain about it.

take it home with you and do with it what you do with all of your other excrement:

flush it down your toilet. it doesn’t belong in the landfill anyway. but if that’s what you want to do with it, don’t get all huffy when i expect you to use your own can to get it there and not mine.

then again, maybe you’re okay with me taking a dump in your trashcan – simply because it’s more convenient for me.

and, yes, dog-walkers have done this to me a couple of times now. on tuesdays. after the trash was collected.

I can love my dog and not want to carry his poop. That’s a normal human reaction.

Quite the bizarre thread. I’ll come clean: When I had a dog I’d place a bagged poop or two in a full can I was walking by on occasions when I’d be 20 or more minutes from my house and I was carrying more than just a leash. It was a convenience thing. Reading this thread, I think I’d be just as inclined to do it now under the same circumstances, probably because I’d get a perverted glee knowing I’ll make someone hyperventilate over something rather benign. I actually have a little second of satisfaction when I notice someone’s used my can instead of pitch garbage on the ground. (And truck owners can relate that folks DO throw their garbage in the back of people’s trucks. I figure it’s a convenience thing for them, too, or a lazy thing. No biggie.)

you know you can tie the bag to the leash, right? i’ve seen it done.

but thanks for confirming what i already knew about most of you.

cait: sure. that’s a normal human reaction. what’s not a normal human reaction is doing something after people ask you to stop, and then trying to justify it so you can continue with that behavior.

the bottom line is that you expect other people to change their behavior or their attitudes about something just because you have a dog and feel entitled to do whatever you want.

the rest of us look at that behavior as unreasonable and irrational at the least, and somewhat insane at the worst.

Get some perspective, at least they’re not leaving it on your lawn.

Seriously! It’s a GARBAGE CAN for goodness sake! It’s not like we’re leaving it in your flower pot. Or the back of your truck!!

Hysterical! I am guilty of putting my little doggy poop bags in other peoples (or the cities, excuse me) trash bins when out on a walk.

I have also seen many little blue bags in my own “leased” trash from people walking by with their dogs.

I have also had people drop the little blue bags just beside my trashcan. WTF? Seriously. I am happy if the walker picks up the poop; happy to lend them access to my trash bin; but don’t leave your little baggy in my driveway!!!

Imagine living downtown where homeless people poop in the alleys. I think we have it easy here in West Seattle.

    Hey Yeah-Me!

Nice to see you back on the forums and checking in on your old hood. How are things in the Claw? And this thread is funny, at least to this honey badger, dog owner who scoops and usually takes it all the way home, unless the bag starts to break, then I find a dumpster!!!! ;-)

i’m not sure how many different ways i can say this.

we – your neighbors – are asking you to stop doing something that we feel you’re not entitled to do.

and yet you continue to insist that you are entitled to do it, despite our objections.

cait: yeah. it isn’t on my lawn. gee, thanks. what, am i supposed to get down on my knees and thank you for not doing something that’s even more objectionable?

look. get over yourselves and take responsibility for your pets.

quit being lazy and pack it out with you.

let me put it another way. for the sake of argument, let’s say we’re next-door neighbors. you keep putting your dog shit in my trash can. 10 or 14 times a week, or whatever your dog requires. i politely ask you to stop. you, however, start arguing [whatever] and continue to do it, despite my objections.

who is the irrational party here?

you have the means to deal with your dog poop in a way that doesn’t offend me. but you choose not to.

    why?

i equate your behavior to that of spoiled, petulant children who have never been taught to respect other people’s wishes or property.

    maybe it’s just bad parenting.

I don’t use the word “pwned” very often (in fact, I’m not even sure that I completely understand what it means), but I’m pretty sure redblack has pwned the poop apologists a couple of times in this thread. The dog mafia can keep telling us that it’s not a big deal and that we should be grateful that they aren’t leaving it on our lawn, but that doesn’t change the fact that leaving it in someone else’s can is lazy, inconsiderate, and just plain selfish. In fact, there is no argument that can be made for it (e.g., “I don’t feel like carrying it home with me,” “it’s too smelly to take on the rest of my walk,”) that isn’t the very definition of selfishness. We’re asking you not to do it. Please don’t.

I read somewhere that one of the original functions of graffiti was to mark the homes of folks that would let traveling vagabonds stay without much fuss. Here’s a suggestion. Folks that don’t mind having someone else put little bags of poop in their garbage can should paint an X on the can (unless that’s considered defacing government property). Those that are bothered do nothing and receive no poop. Just a thought.

Right on, Whine- yet perhaps a triangle would be more- recognizable?

Our can, your’s for the droppin’!

Off topic, but our tree? (Christmas tree that is) apparently out there for the taking: I put it out there for a Wed. morning trash pick-up at 7PM Tues. night, only to find it gone when leaving at 6AM. Now this was no small tree that blew away- a 9 footer at least, and I’ve never seen any City Truck come through before 7AM, let alone before 6AM. Bizarro.

I truly don’t understand how anyone can justify this behavior. Dumping trash on someone else’s property does not command compassion, nor is it something the offender has no control over; it’s rude, selfish, and illegal.

It’s simply disingenuous to argue otherwise.

And Cait: Sure, you can love your dog and not want to deal with the poop. It takes more than love to make you a good pet owner.

Hey, thanks everyone! I leave town for a bit, come back, and the thread is still going. Well into page 2, even.

And there’s this from Portland, which is not WS but at least on-topic for the thread. Casual vandalism, oh my!
