I see them busily building away there, and am now wondering what their ETA is on completion, if LA Fitness has formally announced that they’re going in there and, if so, what size the club will be and what sort of stuff it might have? Specifically if it will have a lap pool?

Honestly, I am yearning to dump the YMCA for a multitude of reasons and am getting increasingly excited about the idea of LA Fitness there. Anyone have any new news?

We are Y members as well. This is more a comment about LA Fitness than the Y. We were members in the brand new LA Fitness in Renton when it opened, when we lived in the South End. OMG it was incredible. Amazing. The best. If this new club is anything like that one, I think we would join in a heartbeat, although we mostly love the Y right now because of kid stuff, which would be hard to lose. Although LA Fitness did have childcare as well.

I think they are confirmed for that space. If they are in construction, they are likely building the club to LA’s specifications, which I understand are lengthy.

Thanks Kgdlg! That’s wonderful to hear. Mostly, I wanted confirmation that they’d have a pool. It seems to be pretty standard for their clubs, but you never know.

Not having kids, I don’t feel like I’m really getting $60 a month worth out of the Y, so a brand-new LA fitness at $30 a month sounds really appealing.

Last December, I was the only reporter at the one and only public meeting regarding Spruce, post-ownership change. The pool and a few other LA Fitness details were mentioned in our report. Scroll down.

thanks for Q & A on the Hole new LA Fitness; and link

    ~

looking through the Hole story, I see part of public benefit lists undergrounding utilities; I’ve been told by several experts in land use that the new Whole Foods across the street, which was listing undergrounding utilities as a public benefit, is really not; that is it required; which is true? or did the code change since the Hole was permitted?

“The public benefit, as summarized in the presentation:

*”Pocket park” public open space in right of way bulb at southeast corner

    *$25,000 to Seattle Parks

    *Wider sidewalks

    *More landscaping

    *Flexcars

*Pedestrian weather protection along Alaska/39th frontages

*Undergrounding utilities along 39th SW (not required but the project team says they decided to do it because it would be “ugly otherwise”
