AnonymousInactiveI cannot believe Michael Johns was voted off American Idol tonight! What a joke! With the contestants who are left, I have no interest in the show! Such a disappointment in America. He was the only true star on that show. I will no longer watch.

AnonymousInactiveSorry, TR, I realize that is the wrong topic title. How do I change it after I have already posted?
April 11, 2008 at 4:10 am #621899
JeraldParticipantI think it was wrong too, but that’s what makes the show interesting. You just can’t count on anything. Although my patience with Mr. Dreadlocks is running very thin.

AnonymousInactiveExactly! Why is HE still there and Michael Johns is out!!! Ridiculous!
April 11, 2008 at 4:15 am #621901
AnonymousInactiveI really hope he becomes one of those success stories and makes it big. He has everything going for him.
April 11, 2008 at 4:30 am #621902
addParticipantMichael Johns is out because, to quote my husb, “he’s old and he’s married and he doesn’t get the teenybopper vote”.
I think that’s kinda true. With that criteria, along with the tattoos, Carly will be the next to go!!!
April 11, 2008 at 5:28 am #621903
AnonymousInactiveIsn’t that sad that he’s considered “old”. Yet, you’ve got this young, uncomfortable, inexperienced David Archuletta (s?) who reminds me of the whole Sanjya effect. That Archuletta kid freaks me out. He forgot the words to a song, for goodness sake!

charlabobParticipantHey, I had to put up with the wrong person winning Project Runway two years in a row — that’s what reality is all about, never mind reality television.
I’m sorry…I just looked it up…you can’t possibly expect me to take seriously a show where the old guy is 29…..no, this will not work :-)

WSBKeymasterRe: changing a topic title, any item you have posted should show an “edit” option underneath the big blue text field as long as you are still signed in. If you click that, you should be able to edit the topic title as well as anything else.

JoMemberI was stunned when Michael Johns was voted off. As Simon once said, “…when it stops being a popularlity contest and concentrates on singing…” or something to that effect.
I think there’s supposed to be a show where someone who was previously voted off is restored to the show. Don’t know when, sometime in April, I think, but let’s hope it’s Michael.
April 11, 2008 at 5:47 pm #621907
villagegreenMemberI was shocked he was voted off as well. I think it was due to his age and the song he picked. The teenie boppers don’t know Aerosmith and 29 to them is way old. Do any of you ‘old’ people actually vote?
I don’t feel too bad for him, though, because he’s obviously talented enough to have a career outside of American Idol. In some ways, I think winning American Idol could have hurt his credibity as a singer. Now he can develop his talent at a reasonable pace without having to submit to the Idol machine cramming him down our throats.
That David Archuletta kid gives me the creeps. He can sing, but there’s something not quite right. The dreadlocked dude is a joke.

AnonymousInactivevillagegreen – I completely concur. After we calmed down a little bit last night, we were talking about that very thing. Winning Idol probably would not have been the best thing for Johns. At least he has been exposed and some label will hopefully sign him.
Ummm, what is it with that Archuletta? Why does he have so many fans, but creeps us out?!? There is something under the surface there that just isn’t right.
Ditto on the dreads.
I’m thinking the same thing that happened to Johns will happen to the dark haired girl. She’s my favorite female contestant, but I’m afraid she won’t last.

JoMemberI have to say that I’m part of the problem because I haven’t voted. And lack of people calling in to support the really talented performers is why they’re voted off. Complacency!
Although Jason (dreadlocks) Castro did a beautiful job on Somewhere Over the Rainbow, that’s the only time I even remotely liked him.
Syesha can go, too, as far as I’m concerned.
David Archuleta has a beautiful voice, but he seems so incredibly shy when forced to talk that it’s painful to watch.
I agree that Michael Johns has a great career ahead of him. Also he is a part of the tour, so will be able to make some money (and contacts).
I’m sooooo disappointed in Am Idol now.

AnonymousInactiveMy other favorite was voted off this past week, Carly (s?).
I wanted to ask, do you think the fact that they are married and bring their spouse to the show makes a difference to voters? My guy and I are debating about this. How much of an impact do you think that has on the way America votes?
April 25, 2008 at 7:51 pm #621911
JanSParticipantNR.. I don’t watch the show…and I wouldn’t vote if I did. They all sound fine to me..but basically middle of the road. The problem with America voting is that they don’t really vote for who is best…they vote according to the personalities, to whoever sings the kind of music they like, and young (read teenagers) will probably vote according to looks…it’s not really picking out who is the best singer….and that’s just an opinion :)
now go outside in the sun and play :)

spookbrianMemberwell she has bad teeth and her husband has tattoo face. (I’m kidding I love that) She’s an ok singer, but nothing new. As for Johns he is most likely in studio now recording new single which will break on the season finally this year launching his career. David cook will come in second and david archiletta will win. I called here first.
April 25, 2008 at 8:36 pm #621913
addParticipantspookbrian, you got it goin on. That’s basically what American Idol has turned into (which is fine by me) – great exposure for some really talented people. And in the end, they are often glad they didn’t win because then they have a lot more control over the near-term future of their careers (see: Daughtry).
BTW, LOL on the bad teeth and tattoo thing. My husband called that one a long time ago!!!
And Jan – is it really sunny in WS??? I’m in England where it’s like typical Seattle – cloudy and cool. Sigh.
April 25, 2008 at 8:42 pm #621914
AnonymousInactiveIt’s beautiful sunny here! However, I think I wish I were in England! How lucky you are!!
I think you are right, spookbrian. Unfortunately, I think you are right. It probably would be best though if Cook DOESN’T win.
If Archulletta wins, I think we know who the majority of voters are.

KenParticipantI am already boycotting.
I saw 6 min of one of the first shows and never again. I will never get those brain cells back.
The vast wasteland that is Cable tv is creating some new rings of hell as drug companies and soap makers continue to finance our national spiral to find the lowest common denominator.
AI is not even the worst, but it’s mean spirited voyeurism and overproduced schlock will be looked back on as a “golden age” when viewed from the perspective of the depths cable tv has yet to plumb.
Enjoy the ride.
