nicMemberMy crazy neighbour is pointing speakers at my house and cranking the volume. I managed to get some pictures of it, and asked him to stop. He cursed me out. Before I call the cops, who in the City can help with this?

MissKMemberI think you have to start with the cops so it can be on record. Is your neighbor a renter or owner of the house?

I understand your frustration, and I am truly not trying to be insensitive, but as an outsider the situation makes me chuckle. Is it at least good music?
All joking aside, calling the cops to get it on record is the best first step. If the gentleman is of sound mind, it will probably do some good getting a talking to by the police.
If that doesn’t work, shoot…got anything loud and grating in your music collection like Black Sabbath or ABBA? (I love ABBA!!)

nicMemberI agree HunterG, it’s completely ridiculous. But since you asked, music selection is a surprisingly wide verity. Tonight it was Patsy Kline(who I enjoy), sometimes its KISS106.
For all of his tough talk, as soon as I walked away, the volume was reduced and the speakers were pointed inward. Likely had something to do with the camera around my neck.
I guess I’ll call the cops. What happened to the days when people talked to each other?

angelescrestParticipantI have neighbors who didn’t pick up their dogs’ (yes, plural) poop for a good year. There is water in a kids’ pool from summer 2007: the color of rot. I have asked. I have told them it’s not healthy. Now they don’t speak to me. All my other neighbors say to report them, but I have resisted…maybe they will come around.

LisaMParticipantangelcrest – please call seattle animal control – I am worried about the poor dogs who have to live in such conditions – if they remove the dogs, at least you wont have to deal with the poop anymore!
They will be totally confidential.

cjboffoliParticipantnic: If you have a video camera, that would be the best. The police generally take some time to arrive and if the neighbor has the noise off by then there’s not much they can do but warn him. Always better to have some evidence or to catch him in the act. With that said, I think the first time they can warn him and if it persists on subsequent visits they can cite him. I’m not sure what the fines are. But this type of thing is covered under SMC 6.100.030. Good luck.

The dogs live indoors, and you don’t want to know what else lives indoors as well. The smell (you can imagine!)was awful… The poop is lately picked up AT TIMES…but I can smell it when it’s warm out. These were rescue dogs, and they have issues, and I hate to cause them any more distress. Yet, you should have heard the excuses for not picking it up. Yikes.

LisaMParticipantangelcrest – its your call, but SAC will probably just educate them on the city codes/health issues/responsible pet ownership – and not take the dogs or casue them trouble (I volunteer there)
It may be a win-win for everyone if they arejust paid a visit by an officer and the people know they are being watched.
They wont take the dogs unless they are in immediate danger.
Anyway, just good info for anyone wondering about
animal issues.

Keeping a record on your own of instances and pictures will help your case if anything ever ends being done by the city. I had some friends that went through something similar and they ended up winning the battle.

CPMemberI had to make a complaint to Animal Control about a similar situation a while ago and it’s just heartbreaking to have to do it. I did and they evicted her from her apartment but she got to keep the dogs. Later, one of them died (the dog wasn’t very old) but I knew I did all I could do. It’s worth saying something to clear your conscience if nothing else in case something terrible happens. I realize it’s hard to do, but I would applaud you!

Little known and hardly ever enforced, it’s a violation of Seattle Muni Code (9.25.082 A) to not pick up the dog or cat poop in your yard at least once every 24 hours.

angelescrestParticipantThanks, you guys. It is problematic–and mightily discussed with other neighbors, all who have prodded me to make a call–especially since we had some fruit fly issues. Jimmy G, I actually knew about that code; Flowerpetal, I will call the West Nile Virus line. They did finally dump the water out of a very large children’s pool AFTER A YEAR; a smaller one rests against my fence with that yucky stuff, and there’s another barrelful towards the front. Sorry to steal your post, Nic; I’d gladly give you their poop, but I’d be trespassing to get it! I haven’t even mentioned the trash out front in the trailer in the driveway, have I?
