Anyone ever tried Clearwire internet and phone service?

My wife and I have had Comcast internet for the past 10 years. We just started using their phone service in the last several years. We are quite happy with both.

Some will complain that they are expensive and I agree, however we have always had great service, and minimal downtime.

The only thing I have seen with Clearwire is a lot of folks trying to get out of their contracts. Keep in mind you don’t have to have a contract with other providers such as Comcast. This would be something for you to consider.

    I absolutely LOVE Clearwire.

I think I’ve written about this here before, but I told Comcast where to stick it about a year ago. The customer service rep’s response was “Whatever. You’ll be back.” Direct quote.

I went into the Clearwire store down in Westwood Village and got the equipment and got signed up right away. I was online within 5 minutes of getting home. Over about 6 months, my speed and uptime got worse and worse. I called tech support a few times, and got the “reboot, and call us back” response from a couple of them. However, on my third try I got a guy who realized I had a tech background and immediately started asking me more complex questions. Together w determined there was a serious problem with me picking up the signal. I called the storefront, and Broderick told me to bring in the modem for testing.

When I got to the store, he hooked up my modem immediately next to a working one. The store’s modem had 5 bars, and mine had one. He called the tech support line, and told them to make a note on my account that he was doing a courtesy exchange of defective equipment. (He also told me that some of their first generation modems are dying, so if you have had a degradation of service, go see Broderick and have him test the modem) Tech Support wanted to send a tech out, and he told them since he had the equipment right there to just let him do it. He gave me a new modem, all new cords and wires, and threw in a free window mount he found in the back.

He provided some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. He was polite, knowledgeable and just plain good at what he does. I could not recommend him more highly.

ETA: I do not have phone service through them, so cannot comment on that portion. We use our cell phones, and only our cell phones. No landline. I should pick up an old handset though, and plug it in for 911 use.

clearwire is horrible!!! try getting out of that contract! and the speed compared to comcast is snail like! i bought it at quidnucs in the junction and then the tried to bring it back the next day because of its slow pace and the signal was horrible and they said they couldnt take it back you had to deal with a 800 number and so i tried to take it back to the store in westwood and they said no i would have to contact the 800 number……just really annoying and bad customer service!

Clearwire is compatible with my internet use, but I can see how it’s not for everyone.

I like the portable modem and my internet is fast. What’s especially nice is the PRICE. It was the cheapest service I found for internet alone. The other providers have the “bundle” plans that are expensive and I won’t use them.

If you plan to download movies or watch hulu (it’s not the best with streaming…) look somewhere else.

We have both. I have always had a great signal with our modem. We have had Clearwire internet for about a year and it works great. We just started using it for our phone about 6 months ago and it seams to work good for us.

We have Clearwire and it is convenient and dependable but SLOW – we had to move from a rental home into a house and had no interuption in service for example, because you just unhook it and take it with you, plug it in at your new place and viola! You’re set to go. However, the Internet connection is SLOW and not really supportive of working from home — needing to hook up with other networks fast is NOT something Clearwire is adept at at this point in its evolution.

We are probably going to have to suck it up with the contract and get Comcast as well…because it is too SLOW…. ugh. I would get Clearwire if you don’t require a fast connection to the Internet, otherwise, go with something else.

Those who are having slowness issues with Clearwire – have you called it in to tech support? Especially if you’ve had them for 6 months or longer, there were a bad batch of modems out there at one point. Once I got the bad modem replaced, I’m regularly getting 1400+ up and 280+ down. I stream tv and movies ALL the time – I don’t have any cable at all, so anything I watch is online.
