JimmyGMemberPreviously there was a WSB thread on great dive bars, but that’s not what I’m looking for this time.
I love a well made Sidecar but haven’t found a WS bar that knows how to put one together properly. Or a Whiskey Sour, or an Old Fashioned.
So anyone willing to share where you find the well-made cocktail here in WS?

JanSParticipantJimmyG…I haven’t been to the Bohemian yet, but I understand that they’re trying to do just that…serve the old classics, like a Sazarac. Their online menu has a few of what they call “vintage cocktails”…so maybe here’s a challenge for you : sit at the bar for a while and have a few of the drinks that you like, and report back to us how well they did :)
I like a good Manhattan..one of the best I ever had was in an officer’s club at Ft. Monmouth , NJ in the early 70’s…

PatrickKeymasterThere’s Musso and Franks in LA and the Ship’s Tavern at the Brown Palace. Short of that you might want to check out West5 if Pat’s running the bar. She was the head bartender at the Admiral Benbow before moving to the Junction. Her experience stretches back to the time when Old Fashions and Sidecars were standard fare.

FullTiltParticipantI know it is not WS, but the Tin Room in burien knows their cocktails. No mixers, they use fresh juice. All the drinks you mentioned are on their menu.

JanSParticipantJimmyG…looks like you’ve found a place…I was just talking with a friend about this place yesterday. I may just have to try it myself.

ZenguyParticipantJaKs makes a good Five Star Sidecar, I usually get one when I go there. Shadowland made a good Manhattan too.

charlabobParticipantAnother vote for Pat’s sidecars at West 5. They’re the real thing. We’ve found her there weekday afternoons and some Saturdays — it’s worth calling ahead. :-)

JimmyGMemberI like the Tin Room FullTilt, great vibe and fairly good cocktails but I’m looking for WS places (within my “stumble-home zone”).
West 5 didn’t impress me on previous visits but I’ll give it another try when I know Pat is tending bar.
Patrick gives great places for when you’re on the road. Last Sept while in Paris one of my must visit places was Harry’s New York bar, supposedly the place the sidecar was invented. And I have to say the drinks there were divine.

AshleyMemberThe bartender’s name who worked at the Benbow and is now at West 5 is Jo and she is there on Mon-Wed mornings. And she is awesome!!

charlabobParticipantThank You — I didn’t think that sounded right. I dearly love Jo at West 5 — just have to learn to drink on weekday mornings :-)

EKMemberI would not recommend the Bohemian at this time for classic cocktails. They have a Sazerac on the menu, but it is not correct. Instead of rinsing the glass with absinthe, it was mixed in in too large a proportion. It was also served with a highly sweetened sugared rim. I think they are doing more of a new take on classics than actually making the classics.
I have no recommendations for really good classic cocktails in West Seattle. I will hit up West 5 for well-mixed cocktails.

JenVMemberI have to say, I was not impressed with Jo at West 5. She is good if you want a strong cocktail like a vodka soda or a whiskey coke…but I asked her to make me an extra-dry martini and I swear it was 1/2 vermouth! Nasty. That is a classic cocktail that should be the cornerstone of any bartender’s repertoire, IMO.

biankatParticipantLast I checked, Talarico’s makes their own sour, so Whickey Sours and Amaretto Sours are (were)especially tasty.

ZenguyParticipantI know the request is for West Seattle, but if you are on Capitol Hill try Sun Liquor on Summit Ave. They fresh squeeze the juice for every drink. The atmosphere is really cool as well, kind of a 40’s asian flare to it.
