UPDATE: Flipped-car crash on Beach Drive

10:49 PM: Thanks for the tip and photo. Emergency responders are on their way to the 4100 block of Beach Drive SW for what’s reported as a flipped-car crash. Everyone is reported to be out of the car, no major injuries, so it’s only a one-engine dispatch so far.

10:57 PM: Radio exchanges indicate a utility pole is damaged.

10:18 AM MONDAY: We’re still following up but so far, we’ve heard from SFD, which said no one was hurt, and from a nearby resident who says their parked car was damaged.

12:27 PM: Thanks to Brian for the photos – above, another view post-crash; below, Seattle City Light crews that have been working in the area because of the pole damage. We’re told some lost power for a while as a result.

Meantime, SPD tells us the crash report isn’t filed yet, so we have no further information about circumstances.

That HAD to have been speeding I’ve had several cars tailgating me and passing me in the oncoming lanes around West Seattle lately including on that road and Fauntleroy

There has to be a blackhole in West Seattle that just flips cars over. We have way to many.

Just hope that this accident was not the result of someone having a medical emergency. With that said,  her are the first questions that popped in my head – 1.  Was impaired driving a cause? 2. How fast do you have to be going to flip your car, on this part of Beach Drive?  I grew up on that block and I am trying to wrap my head around those questions……. Thanks

What if the medical emergency was withdrawal from not drinking enough?

Don’t know about the rest of it, but r.e. “How fast do you have to be going to flip your car, on this part of Beach Drive?”…. shockingly slow.  Like under 15 mph.  If a car bumps another car such that the tires touch (and the tire is the one with power from the engine), it can flip at very slow speeds.  That said, idk if that’s how this flip occurred.

Maybe that’s the answer. Between factory design and modding, tires are moved further from the vehicle body and are exposed to grab another tire to climb and then flip the whole car over.

The girls threw out a case of Modelo before police arrived according to a witness who also has photos, so drunkenness may have been a factor. They also trashed my new car with less than 15K miles on it. I hope they’re in jail.

Another flipper?!  Is that 10 so far this year?

I’m on that block and have been without power since around 5 AM. I assume this is related to repair work stemming from this incident, though I haven’t been out to look yet. This is the first power outage I’ve been present for since moving here in 2021. I suppose we were overdue.

Came home at 12:30 PM and power has been restored. Much appreciation to the utility crews!

There were several cars that went racing by around that time on 63rd where it turns into Beach Drive. If this was one of those cars, it’s safe to say they weren’t going 25

This car was going very fast, just before 11pm.  First she hit my wife’s car, then hit the car right in front of it, then crashed into the power pole and flipped over.  A case of Modelo beer was tossed to the sidewalk when the girls finally staggered out.   There are witnesses.  I hope the SPD gets the whole story and throws the book at them  Can’ wait to see their stellar work on display.  My wife’s car was brand new, such an unnecessary shame.

    Yep. 25 mph…

Live right across the street, heard the crash and saw the flipped car.  Then lost power later that night.Living here for years and I see cars driving at crazy, dangerous speeds every day and night from my front balcony.

Racing on Beach Drive has been an issue and a huge problem for many years. How about talking to Rob Saka about proposing traffic cameras like they are talking about doing on Harbor Avenue?it would be a deterrent until we can get enough police officers.  I understand that many people don’t want cameras however what else can we do to save lives and our sanity? The police can’t be everywhere even if we have enough.

Any news from SPD about this incident? Why has the SPD not pursued this crime? What’s going on SPD? Is driving drunk, crashing into two cars, knocking out a light pole and flipping your car in the street OK with the SPD?

Sorry, comment time is over.
