kootchmanMemberHad major cervical and spinal surgery. I can stay upright for about 35 minutes before I have to lay down or sit in the comfy office chair. I am tired of the endless walks on the treadmill. I hate swimming…. tooooo boring, I saw this or something like it on the Semper Fi ride… anyone ever use one, or know someone that has? Can’t do the traditional cycle posture… I was thinking recumbent but .. I don’t like the low profile and lack of visibility to traffic

sbreParticipantHey K-man,
During a race I did a few years back we had to utilize many modes of transportation (hiking boots, horseback, ropes, white-water kayak, etc.) and one phase had us riding a scooter similar to the one shown in the link you provided. The main difference was the wheels; they were about twice the size as the model shown which allows for a smoother ride and better handling, especially off-rode, which our route included as well as paved streets.
It was pretty easy to assimilate to, handled nicely, traveled at a pretty good pace and was a lot of fun (I would have enjoyed it more if there wasn’t a 35 pound pack on my back though). If memory serves me well that leg was the 4th or 5th one of the race and was about 22 miles long and I do remember thinking this item might be better suited for shorter distances however that could very from person to person as well as intended use. Also of note, the models were rode were fairly long, which again would be a good things on streets/sidewalks but made it tougher on the trails.
Hopefully you can find a dealer that will let you take it for a test ride to see if it’s right for you.
I can just picture you cruising along Alki pedaling like a pro with a little streamers attached to the end of each handlebar flowing in the wind !!!!

kootchmanMemberIn a speedo dude.. with a hairy back and all. Yea, time upright is the limiting deal… 25 -30 minutes 1X a day with gears to do the uphills. Shorter distances are ok… not contemplating STP or Rag Brai… thanks for the info….
