bunnypugMemberAm I the only one who is a little disappointed the bear chose to wander the Northern neighborhoods rather than West Seattle?

WSBKeymasterYes!
Our friends and fellow online-only neighborhood-news site operators at
got to have all the “fun” with an overnight bear tracking event (by the way, their Forum members rocked the world that night by posting continuous scanner updates while the My Ballard team – which like WSB is a husband/wife duo – was out at the scene).
Although I do SO VERY MUCH hope the bear turns up alive and well.

KeithMemberIf only we still had Guppy’s. You could always find a bear or two in there.

TraciMemberYou know, if any district other than West Seattle got the bear, it would be Ballard. I feel like they’re our sibling or something.

dustinParticipantNo offense, but Ballard can keep the lutefisk. :)

CaitParticipantI just want to see a picture of it’s cute little butt then I want it to go back from whence it came!

miwsParticipantTraci, I’ve always felt a bit of a kinship with Ballard too.
I can’t think of any one particular reason why, but maybe it’s a multitude of reasons.
For one, once you barely get out of WS, and get onto 99 northbound, it’s pretty much a straight shot from there, although there are the lights along Western/Elliott/15th.
Also, Ballard has the bascule drawbridge, and we used to have the twin bascules.
And, I believe Ballard was incorporated into Seattle the same year as WS was (1907).
And, Ballard is just a one bus ride away from WS on most 21, 22, and 56 Metro routes, pretty much alternating between a route 15, running straight up 15th, and an 18, going through “Downtown” Ballard, and on out to Loyal Heights (in fact, I took that ride just this past Saturday).
And, of course, both communities have long had that “hometown” feel.
And dustin, I’m probably with ya on the lutefisk thing. I *might* be curious enough to at least try a bite, but on the other hand, the thought is a bit scary.
Maybe if I had a pint or two of Red Hook to wash it down!
Viva Ballard!

WSBKeymasterWhen we moved to Seattle, Ballard was the only other place we bothered looking besides West Seattle. Not enough water, though – the ship canal in the distance to the south, the beach (Golden Gardens) much further away from most of the residential area than the beaches (north and west) area here on WS …

bunnypugMemberYeah Ballard may have Urban Phantom but we got TR, Patrick and Jr team member and hence WSB!!
But perhaps we could reach out across the water and be sister neighborhoods.

KBearParticipantThe classic Almost Live sketch about the Ballard driving school could just as easily have been directed at West Seattle.

bunnypugMemberThe PI just reported a sighting on Beacon Hill. The bear has been reading WSB and is heading our way!
May 21, 2009 at 8:28 pm #667044
miwsParticipantYeah! I read that too, bunnypug.
If he *does* come over here, we’ll have yet another meaning for the acronym WSB.

ellenaterMemberI love Ballard, too. It does seem like it’s losing some of it’s charm, even in the short amount of time we’ve lived in Seattle. It’s my second fav. neighborhood for sure!
bunny pug you avatar is just killing me with the cuteness. Ahhhhh. :)
