sarah in admiralMemberColumbia City Bakery is starting a six week CSA which begins next month. The minimum cost is $100 for the six weeks. Menu items include loaves, rolls, buns, teacakes, cookies, bars, granola and many holiday offerings.
I would like to participate but they need at least five customers in West Seattle to have a pick-up site on our side of the bridge.

I think we might be interested, do you know any local retailers that might stock something we can try? Restaurants? I didn’t see any info on their web site.
edited, I see only 2 places on their web site, looks like we might need to either go to Sitka and Spruce again or get to Columbia City!

JoBParticipantWe are definately interested… this is exactly the kind of local business venture we want to support …but with just two at home we would be hard pressed to spend $100 on baked goods in that time period…
is there anyone interested in splitting a share?

SueParticipantJoanne, I might be interested in splitting a share with you – we’re only 2 people also, so I was thinking the same thing. I *could* eat $100 worth of bakery items, but it would be ill advised. :) I’ll email you, Joanne.
Does anyone know if when you order, do you get the exact same items for each of the 6 weeks? Or do you pick different things each time. I actually just emailed them the question, so I can make a decision on it once I find out. I’d also like to know the deadline for signing up for this.

SueParticipantI actually got an answer back from them already – they said you can order different items each week. And the price on the menu is the only price – no delivery charges or taxes added to it.
Sarah, would you be organizing a delivery to your house (or other WS location) for us to all pick up from? How do you envision this working? I don’t want to sign up individually and then find out I have to drive there for it since we didn’t have enough people.
I’ve been in touch with Joanne, and we’re both willing to split a share if this is being arranged. If you need to contact me with details, I’m at butterflybalance [at] gmail [dot] com

I am happy to be the host site. I live off Hiawatha park to give you an idea of where the location would be.
I understand that two people have signed up so we are still waiting on three more. If you are interested, please contact the bakery directly and tell them it is contingent on a West Seattle pick up site.

October 26, 2010 at 10:18 pm #706252Hi. My name is Lauren and I work for the Columbia City Bakery. We are really happy to see so much interest in West Seattle. Carson directed me here to answer your questions.
1) In order to get our products retail you need to go to our shop in Columbia City, to the Sitka & Spruce food mall on Melrose in Capitol Hill, to the Sunset Hill Green Market in Ballard, or to the Sunday Farmers’ Market on Broadway in Capitol Hill. If you eat out in Seattle, you may have had our bread already, as we have a large number of wholesale restaurant accounts: Vios, Serafina, Machiavelli’s, Cafe Flora, Volunteer Park Cafe, just to name a few.
2) The deadline for signing up is November 13th, but we can’t confirm the site until we have five people signed up, so the sooner the better, as Sarah noted.
3) Sue, don’t worry about having to drive to Columbia City. I won’t finalize any orders until I am sure I’ll be able to deliver on them.
4) You may have whatever items you like in your delivery each week. It’s up to you, and you do not have to get the same things each week.
5) So far I have interest from Sarah in Admiral and Carson. I’ve heard from Sue as well. If Sue and Joanna split a share, that’s three shares. If Melissa is interested too, then we only need one more.

aunteesocialParticipantMight be worth re-posting with a clearer title and including the business name- I drive to Columbia City just for espresso and pastry, bad habit ;) They are the best, for so many reasons, many of them having to do with the tremendous support they give their community. I think alot of people might be drawn to the post, like an ant to a cinnamon roll.
Their pies are TO DIE FOR.
Also, I thought it might be a typo of CPA, always keeping an eye out for jobs for some unemployed pals.

Thanks a ton for hosting this! Got the “bakers choice” with 2 loaves of bread and some kind of crack-like cookie called “kitchen sink cookies”. I can’t wait to see whats in the bag next!
