The Velvet BulldogParticipantHey All, my espresso machine literally went “poof” on me the other day. Probably blew a gasket. Local appliance shops won’t even look at it. Just wondering if there are any tinkerers out there who might be willing to see if they can fix it?

KenParticipantAction Small Appliance, 1500 145th Place SE, Bellevue, WA 98007, Phone: 425-643-9806
From the Krups page.
The next closest is Colorado.
I have taken enough of them apart to know you have to get the right parts. This shop is supposed to be the Krups dealer.
I like taking computers apart, but espresso machines are just tedious and somewhat dangerous if it uses pressure to brew.

christopherboffoliParticipantIt sounds like the boiler failed which, in a small machine like that, is not a surprise after 15 years. Even if you could find someone to do the repair, the cost of the parts would probably exceed what you’d pay for a refurbished model ($50). A quick check on eBay shows some of the same model available. It looks like there might even be some eBay sellers who do their own refurbishing. Maybe they’d consider some kind of trade-in discount?

The Velvet BulldogParticipantKen and Christopher: Thanks for the great ideas! I called the downtown Action Small Appliance (I was warned in advance that he was “abrupt” and yep, he was! Guy said he wouldn’t even look at it.) Didn’t realize there was one in Bellevue. I like the idea of a trade Christopher. Just wish I COULD get this thing fixed–it’s been so perfect for so long, it’s hard to say goodbye and spend money I’d rather not spend. :-)

WSMomParticipantI too had that little Krups forever and I LOVED it. Boy was I shocked by the price of new espresso machines! Krups no longer makes a little machine with metal housing, now everything under a $100 is cheap plastic and looks like it’ll break after two weeks. I ended up with a Starbuck’s Barista machine, which they no longer sell. Here’s hoping that the Starbuck’s machine will last 15 years like the Krups (I doubt it).

35this35mphParticipantIt’s outta the hood but there’s a specialty repair shop up on Phinney; “Home Espresso Repair “http://espressorepair.com/

FoxyDiamondMemberThe guy that 35 speaks of is named William he is awesome not too sure that, like others say, it would be worth it to fix. Craigslist also has quite a few Krups espresso machines on today. It’s worth a call William at HER. Good Luck.

The Velvet BulldogParticipantContacted HER who referred me to the “abrupt” (hmmm, more like rude) guy at the downtown Action Small Appliance shop. Still may try the Bellevue shop and see if I have better luck with them.
