weirdsnowballMemberI’ve tried to use Verizon’s site to see if my address is served, but it refuses to recognize it. In fact, every address I try seems to be rejected. Anyone have Verizon FIOS TV or internet in WS?

GenHillOneParticipantSorry I can’t find the thread, but I was looking for landline alternatives awhile back. No, Verizon does not service Seattle for any of its FIOS products. You probably have Redmond or something coming up when you search for address, yes? Same for me and I called – told me nothing in Seattle.

AnonymousInactiveFrom Vincent:
“Because of an inane rule about the definition of carrier monopolies in seattle verizon basically has listed FIOS fiber as being available sometime after hell freezes over.”

KenParticipantI don’t think it is available here.
I hooked up a guy in Lake Chelan to the PUD fiber when it reached his lake house.
Verizon started building out on the east side and south Snohomish county (which many consider suburbs of Seattle) I am pretty sure there is no plan to install verizon fios anywhere except where your local phone company is verizon.
This map shows verizon buildout with reviews:

put in your zip and it should show the areas current reviews are from.
The actual map of the official fios dig or planned availability is considered a company secret as far as I can tell.

KenParticipantbtw: Qwest fiber runs under my sidewalk. The odds of my getting a chance to hook up to it in my lifetime is pretty damn low.
Also note Comcast runs ads in verison FIOS areas claiming to have an “all fiber network” which is an out and out lie.

GenHillOneParticipantI won’t bore everyone with a recap of my research, but I’ve come to the conclusion that if you are looking to have cable, internet, and phone service (of any kind) – it’s all a wash. No one provider has a spotless service record and the combined costs – calculated in every possible nauseating combination – at most vary by a buck or two a month when you compare apples to apples (i.e. expanded basic cable channels, high-speed internet, etc.). Of course, eliminating a service or down-grading to fewer channels or slower connections could save you money. Over a barrel indeed.

clark5080Participantyou can thank out wonderful Seattle City Government for the Comcast Monopoly and not letting Verizon in to compete
