dobroParticipant“I don’t deny there are racists that are part of the Republican Party. But most republicans disagree with those people.”
If most Repubs disagree with them, who exactly is it that votes to elect them?
“Both sides have racists jerks”
Please name 5 Democratic office holders that are racist jerks and stick to the 21st century. (e.g. no Robert Byrd)
“Racism is not a party platform for the Republicans. But to Republicans, it seems as if it is for the Democrats.”
I don’t understand what you’re saying here. Please explain further.

That’s not fair, Dobro. Everyone knows that facts and reality have a liberal bias.

HMC RichParticipantGood thing you said in just this new century since the last two are chock full of racist statements.
Hillary Clinton – Google Hillary Clinton to political operative Paul Fray
Joe Biden has made more than one racist statement – http://mediatrackers.org/national/2013/06/20/6-horribly-racist-comments-from-obama-admin-officials
and some other gems from other well know Dems
Andrew Cuomo – vs rival Carl McCall
Christopher Dodd – Speaking on behalf of the honorable (cough Robert Byrd)
Diane Watson – about diluting ….
I do not want to site the idiotic words they said, but they attacked a variety of people of ethnic and religious heritage.
That list would be larger if you included people who are active in the Democrat party but not elected.
Look, It happens and people are learning. But I truly believe there is a difference in perception between parties as to what is racism.
Sean Hannity denounced Cliven Bundy after Bundy started spouting racist language.
Why don’t you google Rev. Al Sharpton in a 1994 speech at Kean College, NJ, cited in “Democrats Do the Dumbest Things
The Problem is this. The Republicans like Chuck Hagel who is serving in the Obama Cabinet have said some really stupid racist things themselves.
This is one of the better sites at pointing out racist Republican quotes http://republicansareracists.com
I don’t like racism. I hate it.
Hmmm.
Dobro, our country is large and to me it really is about demographics. I have lived in many areas. Until people across this nation can live side by side with people of different customs, beliefs etc, we are not going to see all racism go away.
I needed a black friend of mine when I was younger tell me to stop looking at people as classes or groups (profiling so to speak) but to look at them as individuals. I have thanked Cedric ever since then because at that time and before, I did not have the right information.
Racism is ignorance. Once you understand most of it, then each person has a choice. Yes, there are plenty of ignorant people. Republicans and Democrats. And with the web many are vocal about because they do not think there are consequences but there are.
The last part that you wanted me to explain was partially addressed above. Many people who do not think they are racist actually are prejudiced and don’t know it. But Republicans despise Democrats saying Republicans are racist. Now, many take pride that this is the party of Lincoln. That “our” side won the war to stop slavery, promote individual Liberty, voted or supported the Civil Rights bill etc. And when a Democrat says Republicans are racist, they take exception and view it as a Wedge issue.
You see, Looking at the Demographics of the voting population, the cities are more integrated and the rest of the country is not nearly as integrated. What Republicans despise or can’t understand in some areas is the condescension of the urban viewpoint. Tell me this. If you lived in a city of 1500 people. and there were not any minorities, how do you think you would feel about minorities?
Last Presidential Election Mitt Romney did go into inner city Philadelphia. Do you thin he won any precinct. No way. Do you think there are prevailing attitudes in those districts. Why I have to believe there is. And do you think those districts understand a rural community fairly well in the flyover states. For some, not so much. Just like our flyover friends have trouble understanding cities.
But do not think that all Republicans are hicks and rednecks because I know my Democratic friends are very different in many ways. Many have a good grasp of what is happening across our country. Elections will decide the future.
Maybe we do have more, but maybe instead of antagonizing each other we could try to work with each other.

dobroParticipant“Now, many take pride that this is the party of Lincoln.”
The modern Republican Party is no more the party of Lincoln than the modern Democratic Party is the party of Robert Byrd.
“…but maybe instead of antagonizing each other we could try to work with each other.”
When you have only two parties and one party refuses to consult or compromise with the other, working together becomes very difficult. And if the base voters of said party encourage rather than discourage such conduct, the chances of making common cause become pretty slim.

“I don’t deny there are racists that are part of the Republican Party. But most republicans disagree with those people.”
if this is true.. why are racists calling the shots in the Republican party?
April 28, 2014 at 1:59 pm #807510
JoBParticipantHMCRich..
Yes, everyone makes racist comments.. including me.
everyone has racist fears.. including me.
but not everyone uses racism as a political tool.
The Republican party does.

Militant ModerateMemberNone of these from HMC Rich’s link …
http://mediatrackers.org/national/2013/06/20/6-horribly-racist-comments-from-obama-admin-officials
… are remotely in the ballpark of Bundy’s comments.
Again, the name of the game is to perpetuate a false equivalence, make it seem like both parties are the same, so ya might as well vote Republican.
There is one party trying to restrict minority access to the polls, reverse civil rights laws, end racial and heritage considerations for college admittance, etc. There is one party in which bigoted signage and propaganda such as “Romney – Putting the WHITE back in the White House” makes appearances.
It’s the same party that dominates the political landscapes of the Old South, that fights to keep the Confederate flag on the state flag. The Republican party can claim 11 out of 11 governorships of states that still celebrate Confederate Heroes Day as an official state holiday, 10 of those states (Florida being the exception) voted for Romney in the last election.
And back when America was debating making Martin Luther King’s birthday an official holiday, who led the opposition? Ronald Reagan, Jesse Helms, then-Arizona governor Evan Mecham, and John McCain (who, being the “maverick” that he is, changed his mind after the NFL threatened to move the Super Bowl to Pasadena, CA, which they ended up doing because Arizona voters rejected MLK Day). Which party do those guys belong to? And which party runs Arizona?
And to this day, the third Monday in January in Republican-dominated Alabama is a paid state holiday SHARED by MLK,Jr. and Robert E. fricking Lee!
No, both parties don’t have the same problems with race and it is disingenuous to suggest that they do.

dobroParticipant“That said, another thing I CAN prove is that we will never, ever ,ever hear in the MSM (let alone MSNBC) that Donal Sterling is registered Democrat.”
uhhh…That’d be because he’s a Republican.
“On Sunday, Michael Hiltzik, a Los Angeles Times columnist, tweeted that local voter records show Sterling to be a registered Republican “since 1998.” We followed up on that, and a search of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s website for Sterling’s name, date of birth, and address confirmed that he’s registered as a Republican.”
April 29, 2014 at 2:37 am #807514
SmittyParticipantThe perfect test, dobro!
No mention of his democrat leanings and contributions for two days, now lets see if the MSM mentions this……….something tells me they will!
Stay tuned!
And, if we’re going back 30 years to equate the GOP with racism why not go back a scant 20 more? Al Gore Sr, George Wallace and many, many other democrats would surely approve…nah,,,mm wants to stop in 1983.
April 29, 2014 at 3:37 am #807515
JanSParticipantya know? I don’t really give a rip what political party Donald Sterling belongs to. What he said was reprehensible. I’m tired of people putting everyone into a political slot. How about the fact that being a human sometimes takes a little work. There are asses on both side, so let’s stop dividing us(“nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, my sides better than your side”). People are defending this man…cough…dear Mr. Trump….”he was set up”….so damned what? Yeah, he was, and as an adult he had the choice to not say what he said…no one held a gun to his head and made him say that. He made a wrong choice…and it had not a thing to do with whether he was republican or democrat. It had to do with the fact that he is a bigoted A$$hole !

dobroParticipant“…democrat leanings and contributions for two days, now lets see if the MSM mentions this…”
Democrat leanings!? What Democrat leanings? He’s been a registered Republican since at least 1998!
Face it, you started a post with a meaningless apples/oranges comparison and now, somehow,we’re off on George Wallace and some racist NBA creep and your attempted original “point” leads nowhere.
G’night.
