Admiralty Antiques, aka the antique store that is never open, has a note on the door dated January 1st. The owners have retired, no more periodic sales. Looks like they are keeping quite a bit of inventory!

Gina, I was on a walk up in that area the Saturday before Thanksgiving for the first time ages, and was surprised to see that they were still there at the time.

I seem to recall that they’ve talked about retiring for quite some time, (maybe a few years now?) and figured they were long gone.

I didn’t buy anything, but it was fun to visit there again. I mentioned to the woman that a buddy of mine and I used to visit her store down in Pioneer Square, in a building right next to the Viaduct. She told me it had been ten years(!) since she closed that shop.

The bldg, which housed several other antique shops as well, was torn down. :(

I saw the above mentioned buddy recently, and told him of my visit to the shop. He reminded me that she used to give him the “Cooper Elementary Discount”, as they both had attended the school. Though around thirty years apart! ;-)

bebecat, If I recall, from the ten plus year ago conversation with this lady regarding her school days, she was born around 1928, so she would have attended in the mid-late ’30’s or so. My buddy attended mid-late ’60’s.

I mentioned my Mom’s name to her, (Mom passed in 1967), as they would have attended Madison Jr High, and West Seattle High at the same time. I *think* she said she recognized the name. :-)

Wow, that shop has the most extensive collection of vintage santas that I have seen in some time. If someone ever notices a “going out of business” sale there, please let us know. I could spend a paycheck on Santas there!

Flowerpetal– they had 50% off sales on random Saturdays since Memorial Day. I think they overpriced the items they didn’t want to sell, and she REALLY loved her Santas! On the first couple of sale Saturdays she wasn’t allowing the Christmas items to be sold, that time was going to come “later”. When the store was open regularly, the Christmas section was only open the week after Thanksgiving until New Year’s.

If they own the building and love their collection, I can continue to enjoy window shopping for a looong time.

Hey, Mike! I think we should have gotten a Lafayette discount because of the proximity to the store!

Thanks Gina (I think). Sounds like I shouldn’t be too hopeful. I knew she is a Santa-phile like myself. I have over two hundred Santas and my collection pales next to hers. Perhaps if I crouch in the snow and light my last matches to warm myself before the store opens one morning she will feel sorry for me; or call the cops. But she is a sweet lady and I’m guessing that she would just tell Santa I’ve been bad.

Does anyone know what they will be doing with all of their leftover stuff? There was something in the window I really wanted, and missed out on. :( I shouldn’t have delayed going for so long.
