My front door is a dutch door. I love it, except for the fact that it’s either all the way open or all the way closed. There are times when I would like to be able to “lock” the upper part of the door just slightly open, or on a breezy day be able to “lock” it all the way open so it doesn’t swing back and forth.

Does anyone know if there is a door hinge or some kind of adapter I could install that will do this?

    Thanks!

Check with Builder’s Hardware Supply 1516 15th Ave West in Seattle, 206 281-3700, if they don’t have something that will work I’m sure they can direct you to someone who does.

jwws is right that Builder’s Hardware might be able to locate something that will work.

    .

I used to work in the boat building industry and I have a feeling the “part” you are looking for MAY be sitting in a marine hardware store.

    .

They make sliding rods for holding hatch covers partially raised. Kind of hard to explain – but in essence what you are doing is taking a piece of hardware designed for a vertical application and adapting it to be used in a horizontal mode.

    .

And if you would be satisfied with a solution that allows the top half of the door to be locked in a non adjustable open position (say 6″ open) then the solution becomes even easier.

    .

You will still be able to come and go as you please with the upper portion locked in relation to the lower portion.

    .

Feel free to PM if you want more info. Sounds like we are both Arbor Heights neighbors.

Thanks for the marine hardware tip. I think FullTilt used to build boats, so I’ll ask him about it next time I’m in there. If he can’t help, I’ll definitely PM you. Thanks!
