celeste17ParticipantI was on the C line coming home from downtown this morning and I guess someone cut in front of the bus to make a turn onto 38th off of Alaska and I got thrown to the ground on the bus and have bumps and bruises. I know several people saw it and were hollering to get the license plate number. Did anyone see this car turn in front of the bus?
I ended up with bumps and bruises and my back is screaming tonight and I broke a tooth. But other then that I am okay.
You can either post here or my email is celestine18 at comcast . net

clark5080ParticipantMost of the busses have video

miwsParticipantGood luck on pursuing this, Celeste. I hope this driver is found, and witnesses are forthcoming in support of you.
When you mentioned this on FB earlier, and I urged you to go after the driver of the car, it didn’t dawn on me until later that you wouldn’t automatically have their info, since a collision didn’t occur.

elikapekaParticipantSince you were on the Metro bus, I’d try pursing your medical claim with them and let them sort out trying to find the driver of the other car.

JanSParticipantexactly….I was wondering what Metro’s responsibility is in this, or if the bus driver assisted you, etc.

gmabettyParticipantSorry to hear that Mike. Hope you don’t have ongoing problems because of it. Nearly every time I ride the bus I see my bus cut off by a crazy driver in a big hurry.. But also see it a lot when riding with someone in a car. Its like people forget the safety issues or their manners when get behind a wheel. Seems everyone is in a big hurry, like seconds matter.

miwsParticipantThanks for the concern, Betty, :-) but it was Celeste that was the victim of the incident. :-(

trickycooljParticipantI believe you are supposed to report a fall on the bus to the driver and they have to write an incident report. I have a friend that’s a driver who has told stories of people who fly up the aisle when sitting in the back row in the aisle seat. Unfortunately it happens. I rolled my ankle getting off the bus in the rain at a transit center wearing heeled boots and skinned my knee, scraped up the leather on the toe of my boot that I had to have repaired, ripped my nylons and the seam of my suit skirt up the back and got to ride my transfer home with a bleeding knee and not so much of a offer of a hand or ask if I was ok.

celeste17ParticipantHi Tricky Cool, believe me the bus driver knows about the accident as it happened right by him and I slammed my head into the front of the bus right next to where he sits. My neck feels better today but my back is killing me.

elikapekaParticipantCeleste, you need to report this to Metro right away and document your injuries. If you have bruises, take photos before they fade. See a doctor/dentist and submit the bills. The more time passes, the less likely they will be cooperative.

skeeterParticipantMy thinking is similar to JanS. I’m curious if Metro is liable in this scenario. My guess is Metro is liable only if they were negligent in some way – ie, faulty equipment or driver refuses to offer help to injured passenger. Please let us know how this goes celeste. I hope you are able to recover fully.

DuskyvioletParticipantCeleste,
I work for an attorney and a few years ago we helped a client with a claim for injuries she suffered while on the bus.
You can start the process yourself but if you come up against a wall I would talk to a personal injury lawyer to help you out. Here’s a link to the King County Risk Management site with information on how to file a claim.

Hope you feel better soon!

DuskyvioletParticipantOh and the point is that yes King County Metro is liable.
April 15, 2014 at 10:30 pm #806906
skeeterParticipantWell I’m not a lawyer but according to the website Metro is only liable if Metro is negligent.
“The King County Office of Risk Management investigates and works to resolve claims and lawsuits filed by citizens who allege that they have been harmed by the negligent act(s) of the County or its employees”
