Witness? Not likely as graffiti/tagging vandals generally work at night.

Colman Pool has a resident operator so I would be shocked if it isn’t already on the city’s radar. I’ll ask the Parks media liaisons tomorrow to find out what the plan is for painting it over. Really sorry to hear this; have walked past the offseason plywood a million times over the years and have not ever seen it vandalized. – TR

Thanks, PatB. You know what? I went to that site and was filling it out until I got to this part: “We respect your privacy and will not distribute your personal information except as necessary to resolve your request or complaint. However, please be aware that this information is subject to the State’s public disclosure laws and may be disclosable upon request.” Nope, not doing that.

At this point I will probably call it in. But first I am waiting to hear from others about what they might know. Did this happen overnight or did it take several days? With all the walkers and runners going by, someone is bound to have more knowledge that would be useful. Maybe there was a witness. Thanks.

I highly recommend that you report this graffiti vandalism to the city; don’t assume someone else has already done so. I have had very good results reporting tags on traffic signs in my neighborhood via the online reporting system. The tags are usually removed within one to two weeks. Unfortunately, graffiti/tagging seems to be an increasingly prevalent problem.

I just came from a walk to Lincoln Park and along the beach trail to Colman Pool. Tonight I see that the plywood boards that cover the plexiglass wall around the pool have been covered in large bursts of graffiti—mostly black and silver. Some are signatures and name phrases painted by these mean-spirited hooligans and other inane marks. At least 25 boards had been painted mainly on the west side facing the water, but also a bit on the south. Then the little side building on the south side had its west wall painted as well—over the brick! I could see that they had graffitied the brick wall by the women’s rest room, but someone had attempted to wash that off.

Has anyone reported this? I haven’t been there in at least two weeks so I do not know when it happened. But this sort of thing needs to be reported immediately and cleaned up or it just encourages these jerks and others like them to paint more. There must be hundreds of people passing this location each week. Surely it happened fairly recently. I hope folks aren’t just ignoring or normalizing this behavior. Anyone have more information on when and how it happened—all at once or over time? Thanks.

JanS, I’m not suggesting that many folks who are down in their luck can afford these fees, but I do want to point out that the days of thousands of dollars down are behind us. As of January 2017:

Security Deposit, Pet Deposit, and Move-in Fee Limits – New limits on deposits and fees that can be charged at the beginning of a new rental agreement include:

Security deposit plus move-in fees cannot exceed the amount of the first full month’s rent.

New Deposit and Move-in Fee Limits and Payment Plans

I am currently seeking new housing as a renter and my legal office informed us of this change in a recent seminar.

I brought this up last year when the vans had AmazonFresh signage and no one commented. I know another local business that used to park their trucks there overnight and think they just do so without special permission. Maybe Amazon removed the signage due to delivery stalkers?

Take a chill pill. You have no idea what I do. My wife and I have “adopted” a disabled woman who at one time was living in a tent city. She could not wait to get out. She said most people got up in the morning and either went to buy drugs, sell drugs or sell themselves for drugs. We helped her navigate the system, got her on a waiting list for Seattle Housing authority and after 3 and half years, her name finally came up. So yes, I have met a homeless person. Did you even read my remarks? Everything I stated above has been reported by the press. Child sex trafficking , drug dealing, robbery, shop lifting, murder. I am sorry, care me a prude but I do make a judgement on illegal and immoral behavior.

    1. There are no meters covering the parking spots.
    2. If it were a lease, wouldn’t you think there would be at least a chain-link fence like a construction site?
    3. SDOT No Parking signs went up in that very area & beyond without regard for users for bridge maintenance.
    4. (re JanS) I would think that it is a reasonable assumption that these vans are not paying a lease. While speculative, it’s reasonable. C’mon, it’s a forum… Who’s had 2MuchWhine?

I noticed around Christmas that a lot (but not all) of them had Amazon on the sides. Whether those were the removable type, I don’t know. But there seems to be more of these vans parked every time I pass through there.

The recipe above is the same or close to Paula Deen’s recipe and she’s an idiot. Bananas are not a substitute for banana leaves. Substitutes, if you google it, include aluminum foil and corn husks.

Nitro: Banana peels can contain significant amounts of toxic pesticide residue, as Cavendish banana production is a monoculture under attack by a range of fungi. Bananas are a heavily sprayed food crop. If you wash them really well you can maybe get a significant amount of the residue off. I’m not sure what the heat of cooking might do to improve them. But in general one should avoid eating banana peels for that reason.

YOUR THOUGHTS? Early concept for Harbor/Spokane/Avalon intersection improvements

As a side note for repairs to roadways after construction, this comment mentions that the contractors temporarily patch it, and it’s the City’s responsibility to complete the final patch. I don’t know if that is true or not, though.

“Corporate Welfare for Amazon!” Couldn’t have said it better. I brought this up in another forum how I thought city property could be better repurposed or utilized. I would welcome my city providing a lease for revenue positive use (1.). I’ve also said that developers / contractors need to repair utility patches to “at or better” standards instead of leaving us with potholed streets. They’re getting too many free rides that we don’t get as regular tax-paying citizens.

    1. Repurposing THE Viaduct for a park or using the Battery Street Tunnel for a city motor-pool in stead just filling it in.
