Hi I’m in the admiral district and am looking for a good (or bad 😜) home for some furniture. The love seat (red/wine color)is in great shape but heavy and needs at least two strong people to move. The 6 drawer bureau is clean and functional. Both come from a non-smoking, no pet house hold.

Call me if you would like them. I can be home for pickup anytime. 206-605-3622

Yes I did, and I received a very reasonable reply from Erika Callahan, the V.P. of Marketing. It’s part of a campaign concept (I’m not so sure about so I don’t want to garble the message) and she was part of the brainstorming and approval process. I hope the others coming out of the campaign aren’t as aggravating, but I have my doubts.

I was living in a small apartment above the then Venable & Wing Law Office, now, for many years, Barnecut Law Office, having moved there about two months before, being on my own for the first time.

I believe it was around 10:00 am or so that I was on the #18 bus on my way to the Sears at 1st & Lander. As the bus was coming up from under the Fauntleroy Expressway on the ramp next to the fire station (technically, the ramp that replaced the very similarly designed ramp upon construction of the high bridge), I had this fleeting though; What would happen if something ever happened to just one of the two bascule drawbridges? Would they reroute traffic for both directions over the remaining bridge?”

I was absolutely stunned, as the bus came up topside around the curve of the ramp, to see the northernmost/westbound bridge stuck in the up position, either new jersey barriers there where none had been before, or existing ones moved (don’t recall for sure), and traffic going both ways over the remaining bridge!

The only thing I could figure out, aside from a one-time only (so far) solid incident of experiencing ESP, was that I heard something about it on my clock radio that was set to KJR-AM (top 40 radio). Either I had the radio on overnight, or it started up in the morning at the pre-set wake up time, and although I didn’t consciously hear it and it was planted in my sub-conscious.

Anyone else around these parts back then that remember where they were/what they were doing when they first became aware of the Ship Hitting the Span?

First of all, you did invite them. It’s only been two weeks since you took the feeders down, so they’re probably still reaping remnants of seed. If they haven’t moved into (or under) any structures on your property, such as sheds, wood piles, etc., there’s really nothing you can do except to wait it out. Which is really the best option anyway, as poisoning creates many new problems – such as the possibility that your dog will catch a dead or alive poisoned rat, thereby ingesting the poison, or the rat will die somewhere you can’t reach it. The only real way to address a rat problem is not to provide food or shelter for them. They will eat your strawberries, though.
If you don’t want to wait for them leave, John at Adept Pest is the best pest guy around. He’ll probably tell you all the same things, just like he did me, but he could look things over for you to see if there is a problem that won’t go away on its own.

tiser: I couldn’t agree more! LOVE the Columbia City store and made the trek frequently… moved south late last summer and was SO excited there was a going to be a new Burien store…..I do not like it. IMO Columbia City and Issaquah should be the template for all future stores. I think they really missed the mark on Burien and the comments on our local Next Door & FB sites tell the tale. Hopefully PCC is listening and the design for WS can be altered if they were going the direction of Burien.

Do you miss our PCC as much as I do? The only good thing about the tear down was that it forced me to drive to the Columbia City store, which in my opinion is the best PCC ever. Interesting layout and great feel. Lots of window light. First rate butcher/seafood counter and truly awesome deli and hot food. Made to order burritos, tacos and smoothies. And many of the same friendly staff we used to see in WS. It’s everything I’d want our reborn PCC to be.

I recently make the trek down to Burien to see their new PCC. I wasn’t expecting a lot given it’s strip mall location, but came away truly depressed. It felt to me like the equivalent of one of those cookie-cutter multi-story box apartments that are popping up all over Alki and Admiral. And no butcher counter. Here’s the bad part: I’ve heard from multiple sources that this will be the template for our reborn store! Tell me it isn’t so! Has PCC lost its soul?

It may be too late, but if you care about this I’d urge you to visit both stores and let PCC know what you’d prefer: https://www.pccmarkets.com/contact-us/

Hi Folks-I have friends in need of a reliable, experienced and trustworthy Lawn Care Company. Doesn’t have to be big-just to know their work and to be honest. Need to have hard edges put on large lawn areas, lawn maintenance, perhaps some over-seeding. Has anyone got some recommendations? This is located in Normandy Park. Thanks for any help you can offer!

We have large, very comfortable sectional that we would keep if we could! Unfortunately, we discovered after moving that it’s too large to fit down the stairs to our TV room. It was custom made (original price $4,000) with a durable, textured tobacco colored fabric. The two pieces of the sectional hook together so that they don’t slip apart.
    Dimensions:
    112″ (9.3ft)
    100″ (8.3ft)
    38″ (3 ft)

Dug up more information on this situation. They claimed to donate to ChildHaven when I was given a receipt, still not sure why he gave me one when there wasn’t a transaction. I emailed ChildHaven about the situation and ChildHaven got back to me:

Thanks so much for the heads up about this! I just received notice from another person that they came to his house, too. I checked in with our team and it sounds like we haven’t received magazine subscriptions like what they describe below. There is no official affiliation with Childhaven and Optimum Reading Services.

Thanks again for bringing this to my attention!

    All my best,
    Kristi

Now I’m not a lawyer, but looking at .gov resources it seems that you have to have written consent with the non-profit. As EdSane mentioned these door to door sellers are probably just as scammed as the people they sell to. My advice don’t answer the door!

Dear CarDriver. Yes, I am carless. Weekends? I stay home. Vacations? I don’t take them. I’m 71, and am now, for all intents and purposes, retired. I use a walker…it doesn’t work on Metro very well, like a wheelchair does. So I don’t take metro. Besides, I live near Admiral Way. I’m not going to work, so no bus service to downtown on off hours. If I go to the junction, and have to transfer? C Line, depending on time of day, is crowded, and people are very not willing at times to give up a seat in the front. Besides when I get downtown, there is no connecting service to where I need to go. And then? I’ve already wasted 1-1.5 hrs to get to my appt. In other words, I do not go anywhere unless someone else is providing a ride. I have friends who sometimes do that. I also take a shuttle to My doc appts that picks me up at home, and brings me back. That sometimes takes 4 hours for a 1/2 hour appt. I am on a fixed income…Uber and Lyft are out of the question. I agree wholeheartedly with JoB. Our system may work for many, but it doesn’t work for all. I am used to staying home. Yes, I miss the world out there at times. I’m used to not participating a lot…and, yes, things would be different if I was half my age. Caveat. My car will be repaired in the not too distant future, and I will again take the occasional beach run down Alki…something myself and my friends call a mini-vacation :)

A woman born in the 50s is a “cougar”?!! Right next to the jet plan flown in the 50s? What is it that women have to remain relegated to the sexual stereotypes. A woman born in the 1950s would have been told she could never be a jet fighter pilot – that only men got to be jet fighter pilots. And she would have been told she couldn’t be a jet fighter pilot because of her girl parts – the same part this billboard has made so pronounced.

Heck, the WASPs were disbanded in 1944 without even receiving any benefits. Would a girl born in the 50’s have even been raised to think she would be allowed to clean the jet fighter plane, much less be a mechanic – and “take a job away from a man”?

A girl would have had to have been born in the 70s before she could even have considered flying a jet. The first woman to be accepted and to become a jet fighter pilot was in 1993 and then women were only allowed to fly combat missions in 1998.

I love the Museum of Flight, but that billboard is ridiculous.

2nd year of juncos nesting in fuscia. Yes I water carefully with long nose watering can around the edges. Careful not to touch nest. Have to get on a chair to reach. I look first to do when momma not there. She usually comes right back and chips at me. But I usually can get enough water in to keep fuscia alive. As soon as babies grown and gone, I remove the old nest and they build a new one within days. And the process starts again. 2 broods last year. Already starting a 2nd brood this year as watched last baby leave this morning. Went to water and a new nest was being built already next to the first n9w empty one

I’m sorry to hear that happened to you. I know the drivers can have their hands full, and I hope it was only that. Speaking as a rider I try to be proactive about offering a seat if it seems it would be helpful, but I never mind being asked to move, since you can’t always tell what the need is. I hope you’ll try again with another driver, or try asking people–your situation is exactly what those seats are for. And you can always try bringing along a collapsible walking stick as a “visual aid” for the oblivious ;) Good luck out there!
