yes… i too used to be a subaru wagon driver… it wasn’t the snazziest of images.. but i did like what it said for my values…

but the seats killed my 6″4″ husband’s back and the newer ones didn’t get the fuel economy the old ones did.. and my doc said i HAD to go to an automatic… AARGH…. and my geriatirc dog couldnt get in without help and that was killing my back…

so after sitting in everything in an auto show.. i bought a used minivan:(

which turned out to be a blessing… and it’s late for it’s next date.. so see ya all later. i’m going to lunch.

and no they don’t program daytime tv to be boring.. i think they program it so you won’t lose much if you do housework during commercials :)

they are trying to reach all those stay at home moms.. how pathetic is that… and because those stay at home moms are often deprived for human interaction.. soaps and talk shows work. Or maybe they work because there are no other choices.

My bosses recently asked me what precisely stressed me or set me off. I realized I have two big triggers: BS/lies and lack of respect. I agree that Hillary has had to deal with both. And increasingly so is Obama. It’s a shame, because there are important real issues that we are facing right now, that don’t get real analysis.

Lord I hate being sick—and bored and cooped up as well. What is with daytime TV? Do they deliberately program it to be so boring that sick people feel compelled to go back to work? :-)

GOOD NEWS — we don’t have to worry about super delegates anymore. They’re not going to be an issue…the last battle will be over MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA. Both governors (one Rep and one Dem) have demanded that the party seat the delegates. If they want different delegates, they’ll just have to have a do-over. Who knows which candidate will win in either place (Hillary won, but the opposition wasn’t really running but she wasn’t really running but, so …)

The super delegate fight isn’t really very interesting, but a fight over a do-over, seating, etc? Priceless (No, actually, around $50 million.)

I really am at the point where I don’t care who wins and I’ll vote for either Dem.) I want my Edwards back!

I resisted getting a minivan for a long time, opting for Subaru wagons instead. Finally, though, our trusty Subaru quit running, and since we have kids, the minivan made sense. We bought a used one a year and a half ago.

I like the fact that I’m not hitting my head on the top of the car every time I reach in to buckle car seats. I like the cargo room in the back: we do lots of volunteering and gardening, and tables, boxes of food, bags of compost, etc. fit nicely. I like not having to squeeze five people and assorted car seats into a smaller car.

But on the other hand…I’m a minivan driver. I used to be a young, hip urbanite, and now I drive a minivan. And it’s the only choice I have right now, because it’s the only vehicle we own. If I need to drive, I have to get into the…well…you know.

Mini.

i wouldn’t tuck you in.. because i am afraid of the flu myself… but i could bring you soup.

My house has the nasty head cold thing going… hubby is miserable.. but of course he went to work.

there is one thing i can thank Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for… i may feel crappy.. but my upregulated immune system kicks colds pretty fast.

I am not so sure about flu tho since it feels the same as always only sometimes worse. when hubby gets the flu i know i have been fighting one:) that’s why i try to avoid them.. he doesn’t do sick well:)

My partner and I recently discovered we are pregnant – VERY exciting! :) We live in the Admiral area and would love recommendations for any general parenting and/or lamaze classes held in West Seattle. Actually, we’re more than happy to go to other parts of Seattle and maybe Renton/Tukwila too if someone had a particularly good class experience. All tips are greatly appreciated.

i go the speed limit in mine.. in fact i tend to set my cruise control at exactly 3 miles over the speed limit whenever i am able (i don’t like tickets)… and over the broad stretches of America’s prairieland… that thing flew with little regard to speed limits. across the prairie, i didn’t have so many other drivers to contend with…

You might consider whether you want minivans driving faster tho.

if we begin weaving in and out of traffic frantically trying to gain just one more car length like so many other cars do… you are going to have a lot of rollovers on the highway and i think ultimately that will slow you down.

and maybe you want those of us who chose our minivans because we have cars full of distractions to keep a good buffer between us and the car ahead of us. and maybe you should think about that minivan full of distractions next time you impatiently edge up against the taillights…

i wonder what the accident stats are for those who drive minivans compared to those who drive other cars ;-)

i don’t know, so maybe i am wrong.. i bet someone will look it up:)

anyway, there are probably idiots in minivans too:)

come to think of it, i saw a lot of them off the road last time i drove through winter storms.. but not as many as SUV owners.. they couldn’t stay on the road in ice for anything:)

if there was no hillary..

i would probably be as excited about Obama as those who post here.

He is charismatic.. he inspires hope… what’s not to like?

but there is hillary.. and while he inspires hope… i feel she can deliver hope… to those who need it most.

It’s not often i am willing to attach my heart so firmly to a dream… but there it is.

I am as passionate about the real change i think a woman who has learned to work the system… and reach across party lines to build consensus on issues that truly matter… this woman… can actually bring to the world… as those who support Obama are about him.

I am passionate about what she has shown me she is capable of doing.. not what she promises to do.

It’s not Saint Hillary… I don’t idealize the woman.. but i truly respect her. It has not been easy to get where she is. No other woman has ever managed to do so in the entire history of our nation. and if she fails, it will be a long time before another does.

I know how quick many of you are to instantly villianize her… and that truly saddens me. I am appalled at the total lack of respect women (of any generation) are willing to show a woman who has worked so hard to get where she is.

It is not ok to call her names that you wouldn’t want applied to yourself or your mothers just because she has been made the target of one of the vilest hate campaigns ever.

If Hillary can be treated that way by the national press… and an entire nation can be taught that it is ok to continually scrutinize and look for any excuse to dismiss her.. then so can we.

Yes, i know this is politics. But if those of you who are so continually offended at any offense to Obama actually turned the same critical eye to what you think is ok when applied to Hillary.. i think you would be appalled.

Ask yourself what she did to “earn” such abuse… and all you will be able to come up with are characterizations fed to you by the evening news… she’s shrill… she’s a ballbuster… he husband cheated on her and she backed him up… she wouldn’t listen to her “betters” in congress who wanted to kill the health bill she brokered… she dared to broker anything….

the truth is.. she stepped above herself. She took on more as a first lady than people were comfortable with. (she didnt’ stick to decorating and good works.. and when she turned to them she was lampooned for her efforts) and then she forgave the “rotten bastard” that half the country wasn’t able to forgive.

She is one of those women who broke through barriers and made it possible for all women to do the things they take for granted today. And some of those same women find it impossible to give her credit for even that.

If Hillary was male and had never been married to bill.. she would be the candidate that broke through barriers.. who idealistically stuck to her goals of bettering life for ordinary Americans.. who survived and surmounted public scandal. someone who would inspire hope.

I don’t expect to change your minds. you are as driven by your dream as i am by mine.. but I do expect you to stop and consider why you think you can only defend your dream by destroying her.

And to ask yourself if that is really in your best interests.

My question to you all of you owners is this…Do minivans go the speed limit? Because, every time I see one on the road I have to make an effort to not be in the same lane as the Minivan, because 99% of the time the thing is moving along about 3-8 mph under the speed limit. Just wanted to know if they build that feature into the vehicle, or is it just the minivan driver’s preference to control the speed limit of all the other drivers on the road?

I don’t find anything funny in pretending someone is a murderer. I also didn’t find the media’s relentless coverage of Monica Lewinsky, Whitewater, and all the other pretend scandals very funny. Especially in light of how they have given the neo-cons essentially a free pass on behavior that is 100 times worse.

I can’t stand Hillary but I also resent the right wing’s lies about her.

(I realize the above sounds uptight; sorry. I am home with the flu, which I was so proud of myself for avoiding for so long. What is it with the headache…I can’t even sleep thru it.)

i had to come back to this because i didn’t mean to sound dismissive to the Obama folks… it does remind me of my youth and makes me think of my grandchildren and the only thing of importance i want to give them… curiousity combined with hope… that song could be my personal anthem…

and.. i can see why Obama folks would think it would make a good song for their candidate…

just as.. believe it or not.. the young idealistic hippy chick lurking just below my surface thinks it would be a good theme song for her candidate too:)

That’s the funny thing.. both Obama and Hillary supporters want the same things.. they just see it being delivered by different people.

whatever happens… we will all get our wish… it just may not come packaged the way we had thought:)

ok, so far all i have is daffodils, but i cut some and put them in my windowsill yesterday … this morning spring in full bloom greeted me. i can see that the tulips are not far behind.

Yesterday, while beginning the neverending process of clearing the beds, i discovered a lenten rose… one of my all time favorites.

spring is here… it’s tiptoeing in at the moement.. but it’s here:)

after winters in Minnesota.. where spring shows up for a week or two in may.. i am ecstatic!

can’t wait to go see the fields in LaConner…. anyone else interested ?

I have driven mine cross country (Portland/Seattle to Minneapolis and minneapolis to the gulf) at least 8 times.. not to mention the many little trips we’ve taken… and you can pile a lot of stuff in and still have plenty of room to avoid dog fights. that’s a plus! And with a little music or books on tape… the miles just melt.

Besides, i have room for grand babies. ok.. and in-laws too when i need to…

I got it when my in-laws were visiting a lot and we had an older dog who had difficulty getting into a car… it solved a lot of mobility problems… then i fell in love… sigh…

I have this fantasy of converting it to a little camping van when it runs it’s course as city transportation. we will see:)

for me.. my car is an extension of my legs. i can’t hike any longer.. but my car still takes me comfortably where vistas clear my soul. i don’t know what i would do without my mini-van.

Last year I was trying to get a crosswalk or streetlight at my intersection and had simply emailed the general email on the page that was linked to above. Someone got back to me, and then I had a “real live human” email address to write to about it. If you can get a few neighbors to also contact them about the same intersection you have in mind, it might have more impact. A few of us had been contacting them about the intersection at Fauntleroy & Dawson, and we recently got word that it’s on the schedule for a light in 2008, which was great news. It took a long time of investigating (they needed to look at history of the intersection, and then send crew out at a typical busy time to see what’s going on) and all other sorts of bureacratic stuff though. Can’t guarantee your outcome, but the more people contacting them about the same thing can’t hurt.

So, what I don’t understand is, why everyone came down so hard on beachdrivegirl for posting a list that has circulated many a times before? It’s not like she compiled the list herself. I felt the same about the fuel consumption, too. However, I think with all the carpooling and ride sharing I am able to do with other parents, that my actual impact is down.

Before this I drove a Land Rover (and YES, it was because we needed the off-road abilities) so anything seems economical in comparison!

But I love that I can take a bunch of kids and all the junk that goes with them and still have room for groceries or more junk. It’s also really good for long road trips with kids. I can split them up or put them together, I can get up and attend to them while we are driving (not safely or legally but sometimes need takes over!) and there is room for all the things they “need” in the car.

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only closet minivan enthusiast!!

I can’t believe i am adding to the chorus… but i love my minivan. It’s comfortable, working on it’s second 100,000 miles and shows no real signs of slowing down.

I kept beating myself up because i wasn’t driving something more fuel efficient until i drove a pt cruiser for a month after my minivan was wacked at an intersection. I was amazed to find that the gas mileage was only a little better than i get with the minivan.

I was never so glad to get a car back in my life.

Yes, i know i could do much better.. and when this one gasps.. i will be looking for something more economical to drive… but in the meantime i just bite my little old hippy lip and crawl into comfort.

They are the best ever! I remember Time magazine doing a special on the worst cars ever made and named the SUV, in particular the Ford Explorer, in the top ten because it outed the minivan for soccer moms (and dads) but said it was awful because it did not meet their needs they just wanted to be trendy and “safe”. I have friends who swear they will never own a minivan, then they get into one and realize that it would be ideal for their needs. I am on my second one and love it!
