Hello, I am a long-time West Seattle resident who is selling her home. I will be looking for short-term housing most likely at the beginning of July through the time of my closing on the purchase of my new home. My current home is going on the market at the end of June and I expect to get offers fairly soon (based on the recent sale of my neighbor’s townhome which is identical). Most of my belongings will be in storage so it would just be me and my essentials. I do have two small well-behaved dogs. One is 5 lbs. and the other is approximately 16 lbs. I am a non-smoker, very tidy, responsible and have excellent credit and a sixteen year employment history with the same firm. Please let me know if you have anything or know of someone who has a property, apartment, room that would be compatible with my needs. Thank you!

Unfortunately, this is a crazy thing to do these days in single family residential areas, and mail theft is prevalent in West Seattle. My old carrier was awesome, as well. Now I don’t know who delivers my mail or when. Or if.

Over a year ago, I called the supervisor at the Westwood PO to find out why my outgoing mail was not picked up. The carrier had to pick up the outgoing as it was covering the slot for the security mailbox, insert new mail, then replace the outgoing over the slot – without taking it. The supervisor told me that carriers “do not pick up outgoing mail”.

I contacted the PO Headquarters in Washington D.C. to demand clarification of rules regarding residential mail pick up. They forwarded me somewhere else, and then I was forwarded again. All this took about a month, before I received an email stating that the issue should be handled by my local P.O. – the original source of the problem – and that I would be contacted within 48 hours by them.

That was over a year ago.

guess you have to ask her. I’m in a small secure apt. bldg. and we leave mail simply stuck between the mailboxes, and they always take it.

This billboard was very jarring to me having had multiple friends struggle (and pass away) from cancer in recent years.

However, I imagine that whatever healthcare organization is sponsoring it is either going to make some message appear as this one fades (cancer fading is a pretty bold message)and then some PR campaign will be unleashed as this happens. Just my guesses. I am intrigued to watch it unfold now. Which is probably the whole point!

It looks like it was done in water-soluble ink, if you look closely while you drive by you can see where it is running off the billboard. Maybe it is meant to dissolve slowly in the rain…which any other spring would have worked by now!

Drove by the Spokane Viaduct billboard this morning and the black ink is definitely running down from the letters. Kinda makes me wonder if they considered the possibility that it WOULDN’T rain? Perhaps not, this being Seattle and all.

As someone who has lost a number of friends and family to cancer, I’m not sure what I would have thought of the billboard if I hadn’t read this thread first, but I’m sure there would have been a lot of “WTFs” involved.

I find this billboard very disturbing. Many people have lost friends/family to cancer, or are fighting cancer. IMO, this billboard with its negative message should be removed (faster than just “fading” away). If VM is behind this, what it their point??

I posted a pic of the billboard on Facebook as it left me scratching my head. A friend replied that Virginia Mason had a similar ice sculpture recently that said CANCER in all block letters. Certainly sparked a conversation but I don’t really get where they’re going with it.

I commute out of West Seattle via the West Seattle bridge. A few days ago I noticed a billboard on the right side close to the I-5 exits that just has the word “CANCER” in black letters on white background. The letters appear to be getting lighter each day – is this going to be followed by an announcement that some sort of company/group/hospital is working on eradicating the disease, or is the weather taking its toll?

I normally don’t care about billboards, but this one’s got me intrigued… any ideas?

Unbelievable. Is it just me, or does there seem to be a burgeoning underclass of pure scumbags? How brazen can you be to do this right in front of the post office?

Just a warning: I was putting my mail in the drive-thru box outside the Westwood post office and saw that several letters (bills) stuck to the slot. When I went to shuffle them in, I noticed that the slot had small wads of dark-colored sticky stuff strategically placed not only along the slot, but also inside right where the slot opens to the main box. So, if one did not notice their mail was stuck on the inside of the upper slot, one most likely would not check lower in the box. I say “strategically” because these appeared to be set in places reachable by hands (my hand reached into the bin so I could push my mail into the box). Anyway, I alerted the post office staff, but Westwood is probably not the only place where this has been done — so make sure your mail actually goes through all of the slot openings and into the box!

TinyMighty…and if they are place IN the mailbox, that’s a federal offense. When you round up these kids to pass out these flyers, maybe a class as to what is correct and what is not is warranted. With remedial training. Not a rude response like this one telling her to just deal with it. You are in the wrong….time to start listening to more of the people in your ‘hood, I’m thinking.

TinyMighty, there is a better way for you to address Singularname’s concern: Be a good neighbor and stop breaking the law! It shouldn’t be necessary for them to post a no trespassing sign because putting non-mailed items on or in the mailbox is illegal anyway. I suspect your vigilante tactics are turning other people away from your organization as well.

Our 15th Annual Plant Sale is the third weekend of May. A large percentage of our inventory comes from people like you.

Help this be an super successful fundraiser by donating plants. If you end up dividing any plants while gardening, Furry Faces Foundation would love to accept your extra plants for our Plant Sale. This is one of our biggest fundraisers and you can help by dividing your perennials, bulbs, etc.

We have pots you can use for your divisions. Just pick them up at 3809 46th Ave SW. They are located under our Ventana Plant Terrace tables, located on the south side of the house. Plants may be dropped off at the same address, in the front yard.

There are some plants we are unable to accept either because they are invasive or after 15 years of experience, we have found that they don’t sell. We don’t want you to spend your precious time and energy on potting up these items:

    1) Invasive species such as St. John’s Wort and Butterfly bushes

    2) Plants that don’t sell well or at all

    a. Day Lilies

    b. Tree starts

    c. Rhodies

    d. Rose bushes

    e. Common purple irises

Thank you for thinking of of!

lol…not like that at all…my grandson is 11 months old..25 lbs..daughter wears him everywhere. The wraps are bought commercially, and are a specific design, and have instructions how to wear them so baby is supported. And he’s perfectly happy in it. Oh, and can be modified to allow for breastfeeding…

Did you try contacting USPS about your mailbox issue? Maybe attend a “gang” meeting and voice your concern? (I know you shouldn’t have to do this, but at least it would get the message out to others about the sleazy newsletter distribution method.)

    wow……just wow….speechless….well, not entirely…

did you quote them the law, give them a link, about not putting flyers in your mailbox? I find spelling it out to be most helpful…

It’s illegal to put concrete in your curbside garbage. If you can’t find another use for it, you can break it into 200-lb. or smaller pieces and dispose of them at the Transfer Station for a fee. I built a small retaining wall with my broken sidewalk pieces.
