I continue to be dismayed at the degree to which people get sucked into pointless exchanges with the captain. I appreciate the intent to make a solid point in response to whatever silliness he throws out, but on one hand you know he will seldom, if ever, concede an argument and on the other, even good points get lost in the bickering. So let me offer this:

Some time ago Dave suggested that readers here look into Stefan Molyneux as a good source of politcal and economic information. Since I was already familiar with that right wing poseur, I asked Dave if he agreed with the anarchocapitalism Molyneux espouses. Although I infer from his typical comments about regulation and free enterprise that he does agree with that largely libertarian viewpoint, Dave never replied one way or the other.

So for those who aren’t familiar with Molyneux, I’m posting a link to a short clip which illustrates several aspects of the man’s intellectual dishonesty and slick foundation for a white racist outlook—“listen up white people”. poseur

Apart from the content, note a series of odd and conflicting comments in one simple scenario put forward to illustrate how biased nonwhites are against anyone outside of their own group. He moved to Canada when he was eleven, but he describes a situation when he was in “high school, a term used in Canada, but not England for secondary education. While it’s possible there might be “busloads” of subcontinental Indians in Canada showing up at a polling place, it’s much more likely that something like that would occur in England where there are cities with very large Indian populations. In the account, the busloads of “elderly Indian men” are transformed into “young men” in one sentence. Now those are minor details to quibble over and you might say he just misspoke, but this guy has been making hours long podcasts for years and is extremely poised and articulate, so Isee it more as an example of how slick Molyneux can be while conveying emotionally charged messaging in the most genuine, heartfelt demeanor.

The cute example of using soccer to illustrate how in-groups have an advantage against outer-directed groups mostly serves to illustrate that either Molyneux doesn’t understand how team sports are played, was too lazy to come up with a credible example, or else expects his practiced media presence to obscure the fallacious reasoning.

After setting the audience up for how multiculturalism undermines good old white societies, at around 8 minutes, he delivers a spiel that is clearly intended to be sincere, vulnerable, and sad but is clearly just a cover for the call to “listen up white people.”

I asked Dave if he has Defoo’d his parents because Molyneux uses his popular podcast to encourage young viewers to completely break away from, to disassociate from their family of origin if they don’t support his views. That’s not because he recommends being intolerant of a difference of opinion, but because he posits they represent a physical danger, a violent threat to their offspring. Molyneux’s wife, a psychologist who helped craft that notion, was sanctioned by the professional psychology regulating body for her province for urging listeners on her husband’s podcast to Defoo. Some of us are aware of the well-known practice of cult leaders to encourage their followers to sever relationship with their parents.

I’m not saying Stef is a cult leader, I’m saying he uses some of the methodology common to cult leaders. In any case, I think this illustrates why I believe you’re beating a dead horse in trying to have a reasoned discussion with the captain.

Hi, I’m Shawn Gunnier I’m a resident of West Seattle and I graduated in 2015 from West Seattle High School. I’m currently studying photo-media at the University of Washington. I’ve had the opportunity to create and edit film in one of my current classes, which is all about video. I’ve been editing my work in Adobe Premiere and have a working knowledge of the program. This seems like a great opportunity to use my newly founded skills and become more proficient. Here is a link to my Vimeo account where I’ve posted two of the works that I have created for my current class. I am the actor in both videos and I did most of the recording by myself with a tripod. I’m looking forward to hearing back from you. My email address is shawng2015@hotmail.com

Aside from the C,all other routes (56,57,37) among others will be routed up Yesler on the way to First Hill. The text of my comment will follow, but you should grouse too if you think this is messed up.
    ***********************************
I really wonder if folks who come up with the Conceptual Design ride transit. I ride buses 5 days a week from West Seattle on the 56. I get off the bus at Union and 3rd, and walk 1,500 feet to my job at 6th and Union, near the high point of the city. Going home I walk 1,700 feet to the bus stop at Spring and 3rd. If I get off at Yesler, I am looking at 4,500 feet to work at 6th and Union, and 3,700 feet from work back to Yesler. This is why I don’t take the water taxi–Pioneer Square is crappy for peds and after a broken back walking that far every day might be good for my heart but bad for my back. While I am young at 55, I am old enough for AARP. I wonder about the others who are older than more or disabled trying to go downtown?

Asking folk to line up and scrum for a light rail train that has already harvested riders from 15+ stops and is packed to the gills is dumb. Asking folk who work downtown to trek two miles a day…and spend 40+ additional minutes to work doing so is wrong. Which lucky riders get to keep going down 3rd? Ban all cars from third. Maybe have a split so that not all West Seattle buses get the shaft of Yesler. Henry’s last laugh no doubt.

I put this in politics because i guess that’s where it belongs..
but the Voice of America is now just one more political tool…and that should concern us all.

the short story is that our lovely Republican Congress removed the non-partisan board of directors for the Voice of America and replaced them with directors who serve at the pleasure of the President… in this case two 20 year old Trump appointees…

It’s easy to think that President Trump didn’t want anything said by the Voice of America on the world stage that would embarrass him… and that could be true… but if you look deeper.. our Republican Congress just ensured that the only version of American Politics that the world would here is theirs…

If you currently give to alternative news sources.. it’s time to give more. If you don’t, it’s time to start. Otherwise all we will hear is a steady stream of FAUX news alternative reality.

redblack: In case you missed it, this election was essentially between the ideology of capitalism vs the ideology Socialism. It is illogical to say you oppose socialism while supporting socialist leadership.

Under your rule, would all shareholders of Amazon be barred from doing business in the US? Seems pretty harsh. It’s a done deal anyway. The wall is ordered as of today!

Yes, markets CAN regulate themselves when competition is present. 99% of the time, it is government regulation that causes monopolies to happen. Laws against price fixing and collusion are long established. Your fear of Trump eliminating basic functional laws is unfounded liberal hysteria. Trump won because ha was neither aligned with Democrat or Republican cronyism. So far, Trump is doing everything he said he will do, and it’s only Wednesday. At this rate, maybe Hillary will be in jail by next week?

JoB: With the way the stock market has gone, you guys are probably doing pretty well under Trump. So much for your dire predictions.

JanS: You do know that most undocumented nanny and housekeepers are employed by “richy rich” urban liberals, don’t you?

I would write more but “Big Joe” does a much better job explaining the issues:

redblack: I don’t mind at all that you have changed your position on socialism. I think it’s wonderful that you now support capitalism. I’ll even pretend that we had no previous contention on the subject.

JayDee: Automation has been happening since the invention of the wheel. Technological advancement is a benefit to everyone because it leverages human capability. The cost/price/benefit of technology under capitalism is self-governing. In other words, market pricing adjusts to market demand. Automated goods production becomes cheaper in relation to human services. Robot-made cars will give you the ability to spend more on your home, vacations, or psychiatric services.
