The way I understand the ADA law is there are 2 questions you can ask. Is your animal a service animal? And what specific task does the animal provide? Pet dogs aren’t allowed by law in grocery stores and restaurants. Part of the problem is dog owners realized employees won’t ask questions because they are afraid to or don’t want to lose money by asking a paying customer to leave. There’s also a lot of miss information like you can buy a vest or you need a vest or a letter from a doctor, etc. None of that is in the ADA law. It’s a big problem only getting worse. Another issue is, even if an employee asks the questions, it’s easy for the owner to lie.

To the OP, I have reported grocery stores to the health department for this type of violation but I don’t know how effective it is.

Not as bad as excrement in the aisle but dogs sitting in shopping carts have their private areas touching the bottom of the cart. Think of that next time you set your child or lay produce in your cart.

I’m not afraid to say I haven’t liked dogs for many years. I’ve been bitten by dogs off leash and where they aren’t supposed to be (beach, play areas) I have them all around my house and they bark loudly and often which is against city code. Late at night too. I’m just sick of the selfishness and entitlement. The mayor has a plan for dogs in parks. I just wish he had a plan for bad owners that bring their dogs in to grocery stores or let them bark outside constantly.

I agree that this is a poor idea, involving both hygiene and safety. And what kind of jackass would leave a pile of dog poo in a store aisle? Seriously? Part of the problem is that store personnel (or bus drivers, etc.) are not allowed to ask if an animal is a service animal – a policy that has led to widespread abuse. BTW, so-called “emotional support” animals are NOT protected under any law, including the ADA. IMO, all true service animals should wear a vest, tag, or some easily visible official designation as such, thereby clearing up any confusion. No I.D., no access. In this age of entitlement, that means that many dog owners would tie their animals up outside the store – which creates a whole new set of issues, most illegal.

It is interesting, why they chose to list that one cost out of all their expenses. Why did they decide you needed to know about that one? Why not list a charge for a % of their garbage pickup? Or electric bill? In my opinion, the Eco cost is just another business expense that should be included in the cost of their service. By listing only that one it feels like they have an agenda, making some sort of point by wanting their customers to know.

I recently tried a new salon & the hair cut and general experience were fine. However when I got home & looked at the emailed receipt I saw a charge titled “Green Circle eco fee,” so I looked it up & see that it’s a recycling service offered to salons that recommends offsetting the cost of their services by charging customers directly.

I’m still sorting through how I feel about the fee itself – by not absorbing the costs & raising service prices accordingly my stylist’s rate was lower & therefore my tip was lower… so it sort of saved me money because I didn’t tip on this fee. That is more transparent… but I don’t love having an itemization of your business costs, that’s your business.

However the thing that will probably make me look elsewhere for service is that NO WHERE on their website or in the lengthy cancellation policy I had to acknowledge (that I actually read) do they tell you about this fee. The first time I became aware of this was when I looked at my receipt; so any goodwill for transparency for separating out this cost is diminished.

I have reached out to the salon asking them about this & am waiting to hear back.

Thoughts on the fee itself (it was $4)?
Thoughts on itemizing such fees as opposed to burying them in the service prices?
Thoughts on not explaining the fee upfront or discussing it on their webpage?
