This could still be homeless folks; there are two people living just on the other side of the fence from Rotary Viewpoint. There’s a woman who’s been there for three years and there’s an absolutely rancid smelling garbage pit next to her camp. I wouldn’t be surprised if the smell wafts up when there’s not as much exhaust/other activity to cover it up early in the morning.

I honestly just wanted to hear if others would be bothered. I am not interested in personal reflection on why it bothers me, or at least not here. And I am not looking for suggestions on how to deal with it. Simple question, would it bother you?

I can recall at least one occasion of a coworker talking to themselves, which was when I was a cashier at White Center McLendon’s.

We had this one employee who did that all the time. His department and its customer service desk were the closest to the cash registers. It didn’t bother me, it was just part of who he was.

I know you don’t want any advice, and I don’t think this is, per se, but my brain can’t help but try to analyze why it bothers you.

I’m not a sports fan, to the point that I’ll mute the TV when the sports report comes up during newscasts, or any sports-related stuff, like reports on specific games. At the very least, I find them boring, but I especially find things like fan noise/screaming/cheering extremely annoying, and the rapid-fire delivery of the sports anchor, and the game’s radio/stadium announcers. All of the “fast pace” stuff triggers something in me as if I should be getting all excited. It’s almost as if someone is telling me “HURRY!!! HURRY!!! HURRY!!!.

So, I don’t think you’re overreacting, it’s just that it’s annoying to you for some reason.

We are a diverse group of progressive women that enjoy being with each other and discussing books. We read books that are mentally and spiritually enriching. One example of such is our recent dive into Braiding Sweet Grass, the author of which just received a McArthur grant.
We read books that are currently relevant, including but not limited to, books about race, indigenous people, and climate change. We like to intersperse our “deep” books with more fun books. We are working our way through the Louise Penny series for the sheer joy of excellent writing, character development, and plots.

aa, when I first got a dog in 2007 the municipal code required a 6-ft. fixed leash. Extendable leashes were not allowed within city limits. Whiny, entitled dog owners got the law changed so that it leaves a LOT of wiggle room (i.e., it’s unenforceable). This isn’t to say that laws regarding dog ownership have EVER been enforced – they haven’t. But at least there used to be a recognition that extendable leashes are hazardous to pedestrians and ineffective in controlling an animal 10 ft. away from its owner. And you are also right that it is not a requirement of citizenship, nor does it make you a meanie, to expect that any old dog either be in your face or blocking your path at any time. I love dogs; their owners, not so much.
