JKB, I doubt you even read beyond the first two sentences, but the moral cowardice comes in your refusal to acknowledge that people of color are suffering from police violence in numbers that white people are not. That’s what Black Lives Matter is about. It is not meant to deny that police ever commit crimes against white people, or that other groups ever suffer injustices. And they don’t owe it to you to address those issues, because that’s not their focus. But it is the ultimate put-down when people try to co-opt their slogan and say things like “all lives matter” or “police lives matter”. If those issues are of more concern to you personally, get your own slogan. Putting down those who are suffering and have a legitimate complaint is not the way to go, even if you don’t care for the way they express their anger.

And yes, I do find Leonard Pitts to be eloquent.

harsh? really, have you seen me walk?

I have had handicapped plates for nearly 20 years because i am unable to walk far and if i do.. i become too confused to find my car when i get back.

the only reason i am not in a wheelchair now is that i have been confined to one before and i fear that if i take that seat again that this time it will be permanent.

    I am one stubborn woman.

so i am not likely to take to an electric wheelchair to clear the sidewalk.. though i can’t tell you how many times i fantasize about the ability to do so ;-)

seriously, i think it’s pretty harsh that there is so little consideration for others that people who are mobility challenged find it difficult to safely walk our public sidewalks.. with or without their mobility devices.

i can’t tell you how many of the smiles on the faces of sweet little old ladies and gentlemen are generated by the fantasy of using their canes to literally clear their paths…

LOL.. best watch out. you never know when one of us will snap ;-)

while i agree that Kbear’s choice of both posts and rhetoric was inflammatory…

as smackdowns go.. your’s fails on several levels

the first is that identifying the two killers as black people instead of identifying them as mentally disturbed reveals racism. Sorry.. but it’s true.

One of these murders was committed by a man with evident anger issues and accompanied by manifestos expressing admiration for other mass murderers.. who happened to be white.

the other was committed by a man who was ruled mentally incompetent in another murder case.

they were both clearly mentally disturbed.

the fact that those murders happened while people are protesting the black lives matter movement is coincidental.

the second is that the murders you reference were committed by mentally disturbed individuals…

while the murders referenced in the black lives matter movement are largely committed by police who had little provocation other than their own racially biased fear to use deadly force.

One of these things is clearly not like the other.

    Listen up, you stupid imbecile!

So that’s your notion of eloquence?. Very first sentence of the Pitts article asserts that anyone who disagrees is a moral coward. I’m torn between “extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof”, “work on your people skills”, and “JoB knows smackdowns”.

Rewind to the post where you dismissed Queer/Jew/ImmigrantLivesMatter as straw men – did you not know what those groups have been or still are going through? And compare with Pitts’ broken-wrist parable, which similarly pretends that blacks are the only ones who’ve had a hard time. Wouldn’t diminish you a bit to acknowledge others.

And this all surfaced on the heels of two high-profile murders: the two journalists in Virginia and the sheriff in Houston. As it happens, those were white people killed by blacks. Would you look their next-of-kin in the eye and say their lives didn’t matter? Or if you agree they do, why won’t you say it?

A chiropractic clinic in the heart of West Seattle is interviewing for a chiropractic administrative assistant. This position requires a candidate who thoroughly enjoys working with the public and who will bring strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills to the position. Attention to detail is important. We are a small, but busy office with need for additional administrative, reception, and doctor support.

Typical responsibilities may include support to the doctor during examinations and taking of health histories, answering phones and scheduling patients, greeting and rooming patients, reviewing patient files for compliance and accuracy, reading chart notes and charges for accuracy, entering charges and payments, obtaining health insurance benefits and eligibility, scanning/entering patient files into an electronic system, and some correspondence and reports. This is a very computer oriented position, so applicants should have strong computer skills. We are looking for an applicant who can work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00-7:00pm with flexibility to work later if needed. This is a part-time position, but for the right person we can make it a full-time position.

Our goal is to cross train staff members over time, which brings variety to the position, support to coworkers, and the opportunity for growth. We are seeking someone with the desire to learn and advance their skill set in the health field.

Please email your resume to westseachiro@hotmail.com with a cover letter that highlights your qualifications, applicable skills, and your specific interest in our offered position. We will call those applicants whose education, employment history, and interest provide a good fit. For that someone who brings the right skill set, we are willing to train in the specifics.

They’re supposedly open from 9-3 on Saturday and Sunday these days, but it’s possible they had a staffing issue. They seem to be fairly quick about responding to questions on the Meanders Facebook page about whether they’re open or not, so you might try there. I wasn’t there this weekend, but they were open last weekend with Miranda on the grill.

Got an arborist to look at the trees. He confirmed that the topping made them dangerous. That cost $375 to find out what I already knew. No danger of mudslides. My neighbors are are all in on taking them down. We have 3 redwood trees for critters to relocate to.

    Thanks to you both.

I get the politics/nuance around that statement, but my question was:

“What is incorrect about the potential 24-day delay to access to undeclared sites?”

After reading, it appears the answer is nothing, right?

I suspect that last post is from a phony DB Cooper. The real DB Cooper is a) probably dead and b) able to spell his own name correctly. Be careful if a guy named Ted Bundy says it’s his cash and whatever you do don’t help him with his broken arm or climb into his VW.

All kidding aside, it’s great that you are reaching out to find the owner – you are an honorable person and have made a huge deposit in the karma bank. Good luck!

    Smitty,

Many of the anti-deal posters represent the 24 day period as applying to all sites; that’s not accurate. Known or declared sites are under constant and immediate surveillance.

The issue is whether the U.S. (or another country) come to suspect that there are new secret sites and how it gets access to them. Twenty-four days isn’t actually a codified number. It’s the sum of the schedule in which the U.S. or another country can demand access, have the Iranians respond and then, if there’s no agreement, have the question submitted to a panel which the U.S. will almost certainly command a majority on. The total is 24 days.

You’re no doubt familiar with the highly technical discussions about the radioactive residue that would linger even after a clean up of a site actively working with nuclear materials.

While I haven’t seen this point addressed, I would certainly imagine a suspected site would remain under watch from near-by locations to monitor suspicious movement of materials. At least I’d pursue that angle if a deliberate delay is employed.

From what I’ve heard, the only real opportunity for secret work that could possibly be undetected by delayed inspections would be development of some of the non-nuclear resources like centrifuges. Any use of nuclear materials will most likely leave a detectable trace.

it’s sad that the word privilege gets in the way of this discussion…. people have become so used to seeing that as code word for those who are given benefits without having to work for them that they forget that this benefits thing isn’t us and them.. it’s a ladder and where you sit on that ladder determines your opportunities in life.

yes, i have had to struggle to reach my currently privileged perch… but how i got there doesn’t change the fact that i could have gotten to the same spot on the ladder a whole lot easier if i had been born to either wealthier or poorer parents… if i hadn’t been abused as a child… if i had been born with a body without chronic illness… if i had been born a man… if ….

Yes, it is true that if you don’t take advantage of opportunities you can’t succeed. But it is also equally true that you can’t take advantage of opportunities that don’t exist for you.

I give myself a lot of credit for the fact that i am no longer struggling at the base of that privilege ladder … i have literally taken advantage of every opportunity i could…

but I am also painfully aware that without those lucky breaks that gave me options i wouldn’t here today…

and no matter how carefully i plan..

i can’t guarantee to be there tomorrow.

in fact.. the statistics are truly stacked against that probability.

Can anyone recommend a worthwhile, local company for the cleaning of ducts which are used by a gas forced-air furnace? A good price would be nice, but I’m more interested in quality and professional service.

I bought an older home in Highland Park in April, and its pretty clear that the heating ducts haven’t been cleaned in a while. It’s something I need to get taken care of before we start getting in to Fall.

In another year, I’d like to replace the furnace, so a company that performs cleanings and installations of new equipment would be a plus. Thanks!

JKB, I think this is a topic that compels on-going dialogue if we ever hope to work through the legacy of racism that exists in this country. That’s why I responded to your comments and I’m still prepared to do so.

For instance, how white people choose to relate to the BLM movement seems important right now. I understand your point that of course all lives matter, but do you appreciate why there is value to focussing on the most generally victimized objects of racism?

Looks like the Twitchy folks are zeroing in on her website. Interesting how many of the complaints about the agreement are actually misrepresentations. The possible 24 day delay to gain onsite access to new locations is the biggest one.

Even with Barbara Mikulski supposedly providing the threshold vote to make it veto proof, I think it’s important to have as much support as possible. So please contact Maria’s office.

When we moved to Seattle we chose West Seattle because of it’s excellent bus service to downtown and hubby happily caught the bus every morning.

when his employment shifted to the Freemont area riding the bus was no longer feasible.. it simply took too long.

As it is his commute varies from 25 minutes to 2 hours. Add in the bus and it’s becomes impossible.

It’s not just about making SOV’s unbearable, but making mass transit viable. I think many Americans would use mass transit if they had that option. It’s a crime that we removed the extensive rail systems that cities, including Seattle, used to have.

    .

The current bus system in this city is only viable if you work downtown. And it’s not very reliable even for that. When I had jury duty downtown, I was happy to ride the bus for a week, even though it was frustrating to occasionally wait almost half an hour for a bus that was supposed to come every 10 minutes.

    .

But, I don’t work downtown and my choices are a 30-35 minute car ride, or 3 buses taking 2+ hours. I think many people are in the same situation that I’m in. Living closer to my work is not an option, due to the cost of living there.

    .

So, while this city is ridiculously congested, suffering through the daily traffic crawl in my car is still vastly superior to the alternative of spending 4 hours commuting each day.

As a very experienced nanny, I think it’s important to just let you know, that even if it’s just a short job like pickup/drop off you still must pay minimum wage. If someone is filling all the time you listed, they’ll be making around $8-9 an hour, far below minimum wage of $10/hr and much below what even most college and high school students make for babysitting in this are, $12-15/hr.
