    Ok Charlabob… what’s up here?

first you repost my link to a Vanity Fair article with “referenced by a previous poster”.

    Now we get..

“this is still the Obama thread, right? :-)”

is this some new kind of rude game?

Now i don’t exist and i am rude posting anything that doesn’t praise Obama on the Obama thread?

does the phrase “Hillary’s big lies” remind you of anything posted recently by you on the Hot for Hillary thread?

    hmmmmm..

i was really bad at these games in high school and somehow think that was a good thing.

Kinda relates to the other posts on here about the car accident pictures.

hmmm, might be something to consider toning down?

I know I would be pissed if I had a reporter, blogger, or any other gawker standing around asking questions and snapping pictures at a personal tragedy or difficulty I was involved in.

There’s a point where information has diminishing returns it seems. I don’t think having this brought to peoples attention makes anyone feel safer and thus doesn’t create more safety at all.

    new resident…

he is next on my reading list…

the reason i put the wikipedia links to both candidates up is that they make a real effort to print only the facts as they find them and to reference sources to those facts.

Since the candidates are living, they are respectful of their reputations and will only post negative information that has been legally proven… or in the case of one of the comments concerning one of Kenneth Starr’s many investigations of her as first lady… the conclusions of the report that caps the investigation.

that makes them a source that applies an equal standard to all contributions…

    i appreciate that.

    according to Wikipedia..

she certainly met Martin Luther King in circumstances which probably meant she shook hands with him.

i only know that because i just read the entire wikipedia files on both Clinton and Obama…along with most of the comments.

I will have to go back and read the McCain file as well to respect New Resident, who posted it.

I expect that to be equally illuminating. Reading the wikipedia files is an exercise i can heartily recommend.

it certainly disposes of more than one campaign myth.. on both sides.

    As for the “lies” ..

you hold a very one sided view of events and even when confronted by opposing viewpoints continue to label her as a liar.

There is ample evidence written prior to her Presidential run that Hillary was in fact opposed to NAFTA during it’s formative stages.

Once the decision was made to go ahead with NAFTA, she supported her husband, her party head and her President in carrying out that program.

Not quite the big lie …

I was under fire in Bosnia…

there is evidence that she expected that she might be under fire in Bosnia… but certainly not that she was under fire…

The story is an embellishment… She said she was wrong about it. what more do you want?

I helped negotiate peace in Northern Ireland…

there are people who were involved in the Peace process in Ireland who felt she was helpful in negotiating peace. She didn’t say that she was responsible for peace in Ireland.. only that she helped.

    Not so big a lie.

As for the Mark Penn comment.. i don’t know if he is still running the morning press conference calls..

but apparently you have some insight into that?

I do know that his firm is still providing polling data to the Clinton campaign (she has stated as much) and i would be willing to bet that there is a conference call every morning from his polling firm..

and i would assume that means from him… analyzing and discussing the current polls..

So.. does the existence of a morning call constitute him “running the morning press conference calls” … ?

maybe you can characterize it that way. You could as easily characterize it as the morning call from her polling firm..

But going on to infer that he is still part of her campaign because she is paying his firm for polling services could be a real stretch.

Hmmmm… I would assume there must be a similar call each morning with Obama’s campaign and whatever polling firm he chooses to use.

I get that you think it is not enough to publicly state that he does not represent her campaign in any way….she should change polling services immediately… mid campaign…

and perhaps that is the same opinion held by your source.. but that would still be an opinion.. wouldn’t it?

    Not so big a lie….

So…. who does make this stuff up as you put it?

I am assuming you heard about it all somewhere…

could it be your source is the press.. or the Obama campaign?

repeating half truths and innuendos (rumors) as fact … is itself a big lie.

Thanks, JT! Good to be home!

I just want to follow up that previous link with a suggestion that you all read about McCain. I know that most will skip right over it, because you’re not Republican. However, I read things about McCain that I did not already know and that impressed me greatly. It’s extremely interesting to read about his life and how he served his country. I know the general thought is that us Reps are not excited about our candidate, but I am finding that I am excited more and more.

Plus, I read the links to Obama and Clinton.

I am writing to let the WSB know how disappointed I am in the “ambulance chaser” mentality that is present on your blog. I am fairly new to your blog, a reader for about two months. I was quite offended and disturbed yesterday by the close up photos of the accident at 35th and Barton. I feel that you are becoming (or maybe always have been) like a television reporter trying to get sensational pics just because. If something is causing a big traffic back up or risk to the community, I understand your interest, and appreciate a one-liner about it. I hope that most of our community doesn’t need close-up photos of every accident. The fact that you stated that “we chose not to include a photo of the woman who was driving since she was innocent” sickened me because you even mentioned it.

I am also personally upset at your ambulance chaser mentality because I had a small electrical fire in my kitchen this morning. As the firemen were investigating my home and I was unsure whether the entire thing would be going up in flames while my two small children were nearby, a WSB representative flashed his badge at myself and the firefighter to ask questions. There was no smoke, no one breaking down doors and obviously no significant story. If this kind of reporting continues I will spread the word and no longer support your otherwise great blog. I am not interested in a FOX news-type blog for my community.

Washington has decided — what can I do now?

    Make phone calls for Barack:

Travel to states still “in play”:

A quick little story. I went to the South Park transfer station with a truckload of trash, Dumped it. When I got home I couldn’t find my wallet. I lost my wallet at the dump! Then, a knock at the door. It was a fellow West Seattleite who found my wallet at the dump and brought it to my house! I was LUCKY! He gave the wallet to my wife so I didn’t get a chance to thank him so I thought I’d mention it here.

    THANKS NEIGHBOR!

fwiw, Safe-Guard dewormer is the same thing as Panacur (Fenbendazole), which is commonly prescribed for giardia. I know Safe-Guard is available at PetSmart; not sure if it’s available at PetCo or not. The dosage-by-weight on the box is accurate, but the boxes are only a 3-day treatment so you’ll need to buy several. Stick with your vet’s recommendation on length of treatment; my vet was conservative and recommended a 15 day treatment. Believe me, the Safe-Guard is much cheaper than prescription Panacur!

since there is a lack of real information on this forum about the candidates.. i decided to go looking for insightful articles about the candidates.. from their own supporters…

since our national press is not going to willingly give us anything more than soundbites.. it’s time we got to know our candidates.

So, i will start with something for obama.. written by an Obama supporter after he made his speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004.

I actually found this on my way to try to find his actual Illinois senate record…

Jeez, JT — you haven’t memorized my whole family tree? Wassup? Am I a legend only in my own mind? :-)

My cats could live with a respectful big dog who didn’t chase them — I’m pretty sure they’re not willing to be the test subjects in cat tested. (Max, the glab, was the zeta animal and all of the cats were alpha–definitely a dog who knew his place.)

Thanks for reminding me that there are alternatives.

Two recent articles of interest about Obama: the Vanity Fair article, referenced by a previous poster, focuses on Obama’s Illinois history:

    http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/03/obama200803

Another interesting article about Obama branding:

    http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/124/the-brand-called-obama.html

The bottom line, for both, is that the Obama campaign has changed the face of politics forever. The question? will it be in time?

charlabob-i do not have cats. i know some have been “cat tested” and get along fine with them. ours was young when she got off the track because she was too small to race (lucky girl). she is not a cat fan. small and furry=run and chase for her.

I understand Jack’s reading of the information, but it is hard for me to knock the decisions of a parent for what is best for his or her family. We clearly don’t know his family, their needs, wants for their children, or perhaps even their children’s needs.

Perhaps their decision reflects less what it says about the quality of schools but his reflection on the whole of life growing up here and there.

Whatever you may think, it’s hard to ignore that MI is one of the state’s best funded, best performing and most respected districts, working with a pretty homogenous population.

Like his choice or not, like his leadership or not, we are lucky when we have choices available to us.

    But do you have cats???

I dog sat a greyhound once and when I walked in the house I couldn’t find her anywhere. Couldn’t imagine she escaped, but I was panicked — then I looked up; she was asleep on top of the refrigerator. Apparently she didn’t jump on the furniture, but she did know how to jump :-)

I love them to bits — given the previous lives of retired racers, their mellowness is quite amazing. Its just that my cats have expressed no interest in being chased by big slobbering dogs; they have enough trouble being chased by each other.

“I dont think we are tyring to run an anti-Hillary campaign. Personally, I just am trying to understand how someone this dishonest has made it this far”

LOL.. you’re not trying to run and anti-Hillary campaign…

that was just the opening sentence in yet one more anti-Hillary post full of innuendos, half truths and negative labeling.

So really.. what do you think a negative campaign against your opponent looks like?

And Charla.. you state that you respect Hillary supporters and Hillary herself… so we should believe you….

while your words actively and routinely show a complete lack of respect.. for her supporters and for Hillary.

i won’t go back to pull one of your more colorful phrases showing “respect” for Hillary.. it isn’t worth the time invested.

I’d really encourage you both to stop patting yourselves on the back for your fair mindedness and go read the Vanity Fair article.

    It’s actually a good article cited on pro-Obama blogs…

If you get to know your candidate… you might have something to talk about besides how much you hate Hillary… with just cause of course:)

what did the republicans gain by impeachment?

as it turns out, they gained a lot.

They distracted america with sensationalism and created a power base from which to launch the next presidential campaign with the perfect candidate… someone who encouraged America to suspend critical thought and believe slogans.

They disgusted democrats with their continual revelations of debauchery and accusations…

And they thought they just might have pulled it off.

Had Clinton actually been guilty of doing even a fraction of what Bush has done, they would have pulled it off.. they had a solid majority to work with.

And, they had the help of the media to sell it.

What would the democrats have gained by trying to impeach Bush?

Not a lot.. other than the satisfaction of having done the “right” thing.

They didn’t stand a remote chance of pushing an impeachment through congress even though bush’s offenses are clearly impeachable offenses. I am not sure they even had the clout to convene hearings.

Bush’s lies aren’t distracting in even a reality tv sort of way… The consequences have been far too serious.

Nobody had to feel badly about their judgement with Bill.. after all philandering isn’t a matter of public safety….. although they did get a fair amount of america to become disgusted with him.

However, half of America elected Bush for a second term in spite of ample evidence of his lack of respect for the law. If he is wrong, they were wrong.

The part of the American public who doesn’t have a vested interest in believing it’s a pack of lies about a great president already know he was guilty of impeachable offenses.

It would simply be preaching to the choir.

instead of disgusting republicans, the media bias toward the republican agenda would only reinforce public opinion towards the “pack of lies” theory… benefit of the doubt.. open to interpretation…

and besides.. it’s un-american to try to impeach a sitting president during wartime.

Sound familiar? i think we heard a version of this from the media during his second campaign…

impeachment proceedings would have been likely to lose democratic support after the media machine whitewashed his crimes…

our media would not help the democrats sell impeachment proceedings against President Bush.. in fact they would actively work to sell the opposing viewpoint.

So, besides validating the opinions of those who need no validation of Bush’s crimes, how would a failed impeachment attempt really have helped?

I don’t believe we would have a viable democratic candidate if they had tried to impeach.

Long term, that’s important to me.

elect a likable dunce (ok, so we might not all for that twice)

    or survive him.
