Here are the two dangerous moving violations from my commute this morning. These may not seem like much if your protected by 2 tons of steel, but its scary on a bike. The second in particular can be fatal for a cyclist coming the other direction.

Thanks for the support/feedback Ponderosa. I did not get the Lyft drivers plate number, my focus was on the person in the cross walk. I wore my helmet camera this morning and will post a video of an illegal pass in a new post here shortly.

Let us all discuss the three egregious near-misses caused by inattentive/rushed/inconsiderate CAR DRIVERS that I witnessed on the stretch of southbound Avalon between Andover and 35th. These all occurred in the several minutes it took me to ride my bike home along this stretch.

    1) A car crossed Avalon (at a high rate of speed) to get from Yancy to Andover, failing to yield to the cyclist traveling south up the hill in the bike lane. The cyclist is still breathing because of well executed evasive maneuver. Reckless car driver continues up Andover without the slightest acknowledgment of what happened.

    2) While waiting at the light of 35th and Avalon, witness a car driver waiting to make the illegal left turn from 35th onto Alaska (Kudos to the car drivers who didn’t have their heads up their butts laying on the horn to let this guy know he was in the wrong). Driver makes the illegal left as a runner traveling northbound enters crosswalk. Runner is still breathing due to yet another well executed evasive maneuver. Driver speeds away knowing what he did.

    3) Last and most angering to me. Still at the intersection of 35th and Avalon. Lyft driver blows through intersection, making a left onto northbound 35th from eastbound Avalon we’ll after his green turn arrow expires. Gets pissed and lays on horn at older woman rightfully in the crosswalk, driver away like the POS that he is.

Now that I have said my piece, please start making excuses for the car drivers, blaming bikes, blaming the city council, etc.

I am hiring one or two LMPs, and one LMP/esthetician to work with me in my beautiful treatment room in West Seattle. The room is spacious and has all new equipment including an electric table, hydrocollator, hot stones/heater and steam towel cabinet. Esthetician equipment is coming soon. My practice is located inside an awesome fitness facility (not a gym) that mostly caters to women (but men are definitely clients too).

I am looking for a therapist interested in or experienced in Deep Tissue / Neuro Muscular Therapy; Hot Stone Therapy; and pre and post-natal massage. If you are interested in learning about and practicing pre-natal massage and yoga, this is a perfect place for your massage practice. A Dermalogica-trained Esthetician is preferred, but other trainings and skin care lines used are considered.

The right therapist will be resourceful, reliable, responsible, experienced or not (graduates considered), have an established client base or willing to build one, communicative, kind, and have a healthy sense of humor! I am also considering Graduates in a “mentorship” where you will learn advanced massage techniques and receive (free) trainings / workshops. Appropriate CE courses may be part of your compensation.

Hours are flexible and dependent upon your requirements. You will earn well above average rates. Therapists who want to earn good money, who want to build their own practice with my help and help of my already busy practice (within a facility with a large established client base who want your services)! Start date would be March or as soon as you’d like to have hours.

If you are an amazing therapist or are interested in learning and becoming an amazing therapist, and you want to grow your business by leaps and bounds, please contact me asap. This really is a fantastic opportunity for the right therapist!

    Thank you!
    Please call, text or email.

Thank you to the people posting support. I know we can win and put an end to Trump once and for all!!! Not to mention we desperately need to solution the healthcare crisis in this country. Medicare for all is the solution and Bernie will make it happen.

This movement already has enough support behind it to ensure success. With the superdelegate issue from 2016 now fully resolved, we can deal the final blow to GOP occupation and put an end to fascism once and for all!

I am a bit surprised by the dissenting voices, to be truthful. Really thought Seattle was more of a progressive, intersectional, working class area than this. Perhaps T Rex needs to brush up on what these terms mean, and how we as citizens of Earth need to come together to put an end to tyrannical corporate rule.

Yes, socialism is evil. I can’t stand the Post office, the Fire department, Social Security, the interstate highway system, The VA hospital, free public schools. Free us from this tyranny republicans. And just because the Democratic Socialist countries of Scandinavia have the highest happiness rating of any countries doesn’t mean anything.

It’s way too early for me to jump on anyone’s bandwagon. However, I’m not opposed to all these candidates, young/old or experienced/new in politics. Our Democratic Republic is being chipped away bit by bit with this current administration and the rule of law allowed to be broken with impunity day after day, completely unchecked by our lawmakers. I’ve never been so appalled or frightened for this country. So, IMHO the more voices out there railing against our “new normal” which is so abnormal, the better. Bring on tons of candidates that will raise loud voices of concern and opposition. The system will sort them out in the end and then I can choose to support the candidate that will best represent me.

I agree with charlabob, follow the instructions given for the specific job listed. Most of the time you will be emailing. I don’t think anyone will be more impressed with a mailed letter and you’re setting yourself up to look dated. If you are over 50 avoid those old school behaviors as much as possible. I also think ‘pounding the pavement ‘ is out dated. My experience at work and while job hunting is people are busy and they want to talk to you at their convenience not when you decide to walk through the door. As far as getting noticed, keep your cover letter clear and concise, the font on the resume and cover letter should be easy to read. I like to have the same font for both documents but I don’t know it it matters. There is a lot of helpful information online about building a resume, how to submit it, etc. Final thought, avoid using a hotmail email address, a clear indication that you are middle aged and not interested in technology.

I overheard him in the storevtell an employee who was trying to talk him out of it. When he came behind me in parking lot I asked him if using as de-icer. 2 Much Whine, thankyou for your input , I happen to care about my environment and as a citizen of West Seattle and the earth I would gladly speak up for it. People who sit on their butt and don’t do or say anything are people who are just as accountable as the ones who abuse it. I’m glad he’s not my neighbor. Would you mind him doing it next to your house and not say something. His aggressive answers to me indicated the accuracy of his intention.

What I have to wonder is how you ascertained that he was using the RV anti-freeze as a de-icer rather than as. . . . .wait for it. . . . anti-freeze in his RV. I know if someone approached me in a parking lot and started acting judgmental about my anti-freeze purchase I might be inclined to share that I “mix it with my neighbor’s dog food to get the dog to stop barking.” Or I might be inclined to say I was using it as a de-icer. Neither of which statements would ever actually be true. Just wondering how a discussion of the intended use of anti-freeze ever comes about in a Home Depot parking lot. With that being said, if his intended use was actually as a de-icer he is not a good person.

Although the notion that cornmeal kills ants has spread wildly on the internet, there is no scientific data supporting this claim. Any reduction in the ant infestation is probably either coincidental or due to temporary blockage of the established pathway. Once cleared, the ants will carry on as usual. Rodents might find it very tasty, however. The current home invasions are due to the freeze & thaw weather conditions in the past week or so, which disturbs Tapenoma nests in the ground around and under foundations. The problem should subside once the weather stabilizes, but there are some simple things you can do to prevent further problems.

For one, I always keep a tube of clear caulk around. It’s often easy to discover the entry point for ants, and exclusion is a far better option than widespread poison. In spring, diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of the house is a good deterrent. It goes without saying that food, especially sweets, should never be left out on countertops. Also, bait traps work best when colonies are actively feeding, especially spring. When placing these inside your house, try to get them as close to the entry point as possible. If placed inside a carton or on a paper towel, some of the distasteful cleanup of corpses can be avoided. I’m always a little cautious of placing bait inside, as this practice can also draw ants in – thereby establishing a feeding route.
T Rex, I suspect the “wood spiders” you speak of are Eratigena atrica, formerly Tegenaria gigantea, the giant European house spider. Scary, but harmless, and essential to the ecosystem.

Recently I’ve seen a huge spike in sugar ant activity in my house. They’ve been around for a long time, as in many West Seattle single family houses, particularly old ones with all kinds of cracks where they can get in.

The spike actually happened when I tried using Terro ant bait. I had traps out for about a week, and the ants would spread out all over the floor and die. So, I had to vacuum and mop up dead poisoned ants from the entire house every single day and it was really unpleasant and time-consuming.

I tried mopping with some water and white vinegar, though I didn’t want to overdo it on the vinegar to not damage the wood floor. I’ve removed the traps since then, and they ants were actually gone during the really cold period over the last few days, since the house was also colder then, but now they’re coming back.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Any recommendations?

In a rental, we have a few points where cat urine has penetrated the carpet & cushion and seeped into the bottom layer, and even traveled some.

We have replaced carpet & cushion and constantly wet
Can you suggest having a proven track record with solving this kind of problem?
We realized that it may even involve replacing wood and infected roofing, ‘as long as it is wiped out!

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
