Well, thanks for all of your insights and/or opinions. We really love our home and after much discussion we decided to keep it as a rental. Who knows, we may return to Seattle in a few years.

1. On a two lane street, if there is a bus, garbage truck or delivery vehicle blocking part of YOUR lane, you do NOT have the right just to pull out into oncoming traffic to get around said vehicle. You MUST wait until it is clear to pass.

I dont know how many times i am in my car or on my motorcycle and have someone pulling around the bus , IN MY LANE! forcing me to slow down or swerve.

2. Stopping at a red light, waiting for the red light to turn green THEN deciding to signal to turn left.

The only reason I pulled up behind you on 35th was I ASSUMED you were going straight thru the light. Then the last second, you changed your mind. Then you get mad at me for beeping the horn. Yes, the world does revolve around you and the little dog on your lap. We are all sooo sorry we are even on your roads.

YES! There is a collection going on right now for Catholic Community Services Youth Tutoring Program. The Main office if located at 23rd and Yesler I believe, and they are in need of supplies. The program offers tutoring to k-12 students through the school year and well as a summer reading program. The west Seattle tutoring center is near 35th and morgan (a block east)and takes place weekday evenings. I’m sure you could drop off supplies there. THANKS!!!!

i think you see name calling everywhere you look … except in the rhetoric streaming out of FOX news and your hero Glen Beck… where it is rampant… and repeated regularly just in case you missed it the first time.

Lies do not become truth when repeated regularly.. but you would never know it listening to them natter on.

if you look up the definition of twisted you will find that when applied to logic it accurately describes an argument that does not logically follow from it’s premise…

i can see why it’s easier to label that name calling than deal with the evidence…

Saying that someone is wrong is not the same thing as calling them names… nor is refuting charges with evidence.

Republicans are not the underdogs here.. victims of liberal name calling… all you have to do is turn on FOX news at any time of the day or night to verify who is propagating that rumor while indulging in some pretty heavy name calling and slander of their own.

the last decade brought us an economic collapse the likes of which the United States hasn’t seen before… not even during the depression.

there is literally no prior economic model that can be used to help us predict what will happen financially.

you say the intrusion of the federal government has put the states in jeopardy? in what universe?

The corporate sector is recovering rapidly.. but that recovery is not bringing jobs and thus is not bringing relief to small businesses who depend upon the employed to purchase goods and services or to individuals who are unemployed in record numbers doe record lengths of time or to our treasury which depends upon taxes to fund it’s programs.

fiscal responsibility depends upon a steady income… a luxury neither federal or state governments have right now.

What part of this don’t you get? the economy went in the toilet. jobs flew out of here like yesterday’s news and as a result tax income plummeted…

you want to blame that on the democrats who happened to be holding the state bag when the greedfest took the economy down?

politically convenient.. but not terribly reasonable.

intrusion of the federal government didn’t put California in economic jeopardy… they were in deep trouble long before Obama’s election…

following the politics of “fiscal responsibility” you recommend nearly bankrupted that state before the economic collapse dealt the final blow…

South of Roxbury, the speed limit on 35th decreases to 30 mph. Not only does traffic not slow down, it speeds up. The only enforcement I’ve ever seen is an occasional school zone trap. I’d say the average speed is at least 40 mph, but 50 and above is not at all uncommon. I’m amazed how many cyclists still risk their lives down this corridor. It seems as if anyone who dares travel at or near the speed limit risks being the target of road rage. The assumption these days is that the speed limit is a starting point…

Jeez JoB. Could you be any more predictable? In past posts I have compared who was in power since the 1920’s. You rail only against Republicans, but you know the Democrats have been there too. One party cannot be blamed for everything unless it holds complete power. There is plenty to point to regarding the way Republicans and Democrats have voted and policies have been implemented. That is undeniable. What is also undeniable is that government is at times inefficient and keeps growing no matter who is or has been in charge. Not all of it is bad either, but it is rather inefficient and sometimes inept.

Washington State is having financial shortfalls. Who has been in charge? Who is to blame? Well, the Democrats are in charge and have had a majority now and for quite some time in the governors office. Is that Bush and Cheney’s fault? No. Chris G new damn well that tough times were coming but in the election BS’d about the economic health of the state. Our state and country have suffered mightily in the past few years. In my layman’s point of view, I see the Federal Government as controlling our lives too much. The states are losing most of their autonomy and independence. The growth and intrusion of the Federal Government has put many states in Jeopardy. Look at the current recession. What I am trying to say is …because the Federal Government does and will control so much of our lives, the people of the states are pawns of the federal government and less citizens of the states. We are affected too much by the government especially in a recession.

To further simplify, the average Joe has more impact locally than nationally. I can call a local representative and might make a small difference. Nationally, I need to be part of a lobbyist group to really be heard. The tentacles of government are choking our liberty and our wallets. AND WE ELECTED EVERY ONE OF THEM. I did not however, elect Bush’s or Obama’s Czars. What’s up with that?

You ask if I support the people who put us there? No. I support a Conservative Fiscal accounting with a bit of a Libertarian twist. True fiscal responsibility. A balanced budget, No more deficit spending. Throw out this tax system. Get a different one and live within it. Common Sense regulation where needed but neither over or under regulation.

We have two main parties. They are both changing. The Democrats are embracing BIG GOVERNMENT and are spending like no tomorrow.

The Republicans are going more conservative. If enough true conservatives get in, they will stop spending and cut government for a bit before they too get corrupted.

No more RINO’s for Republicans. No more Blue Dogs for the Democrats. Ultimately like usual, the Independents decide nationally.

Your interpretation of the St. Paul article was slightly wrong. Bush did have some campaign promises success but fell short on others. And soon his tax cuts will end.

Well, I can’t tell you what would have happened if the bailout had not occurred. I know two of the biggest government offenders (Freddie and Fannie) were left out of the Financial Reform Bill (Sure is quiet in the peanut gallery). I know this “summer of recovery” is just White House PR. I know this is one of the longest recessions we have had unfortunately. Many say we would have melted down. I don’t know. I do know it would affect millions if it happens or had happened. I also know that Obama and crew are not living up to their rhetoric and Keynesian economics is not curing the problem.

Finally, I asked if there were plans out there put forth by others. JoB, All you did was attack Republicans. So I will wait. If you find no plan, then it is just business as usual. And who is in power now? I repeat, is there another plan? Dem or Rep? Both sides too worried about getting re-elected. WE ALL DESERVE BETTER.

Only one of our three phone numbers get robocalls – the one that’s been our “home number” for 19 years but has long since converted to mobile. Starting a few campaign seasons ago, I note on Twitter whenever a robocall comes in. None here yet but I do think they MAY serve one purpose for some people – obviously not you guys here as you’re very well-informed – but there are many who may not even realize it’s election time. While it’s not illegal to sell in WA state, apparently, according to the story the manufacturers of the cannisters do have a warning label “Not for sale to under 18”.

Really, it’s going to be about parental communication and education, as it is with all substances/activites that can be abused.

There are many readily available off-the-shelf items that can be used inappropriately for huffing, including: adhesives, computer duster, gasoline and about half of the items in the paint aisle at the hardware store.

I agree that parental diligence and youth education should be the front lines on this issue, followed by discretion on the part of store clerks. Even water can be lethal if you consume too much of it. But whether it is effective to pressure on local shop owners or encourage legislators to ban products that can misused for a high is debatable.

What kind of education are students taught in the classroom today? When I was growing up, the local police department would come around with the infamous display box with various drugs do a show and tell about them. I don’t recall (ha-ha) if they ever touched on NO2.

Having done NO2, I don’t think it’s appropriate at all to have it in the vicinity you describe. When some friends and I would purchase it, we would just buy it in the whipped cream canisters but we would be semi-sly about the purchasing of it from the local grocery store.

Exactly that sort of high. It kills brain cells. It is used for baking and that’s great. I don’t believe in outlawing it so much as keeping it out of stores such as these. If you use it to bake – you know you can get it at the specialty stores. If you outlaw these… where does it end? But that’s a different issue. Me and Chamy the ChuPoo came back on the ferry from a Island Wedding. My feetsies hurt from dancing and Chamy liked the Camel across the street from the San Juan Winery.

But leaving? What a disaster. A 7 hours delay! He was so cranky in line. Had to have coffee,sandwiches, French fries, ice cream,cookies and diet Pepsi (no Coke). Refused to eat all the nice veggies, applies and baninies I had so thoughtfully prepared for such emergencies. Would not touch the hummus.

Then, while waiting on line for hours because there was only ONE ferry, he started chomping on the other ferry riders fenders. There are chomp marks on the Ferry-Hyak too. All the peeps in the line went crazy and started honking their horns.

Oh, and then he went shopping for some used books and dresses! He said he got the money from an uncle! What? I am never gonna get to take him back to Friday Harbor. Not for a long time. Oh my.

He did suck up all the bubbles from the wedding. That was a good thing, because he amused the guests when he passed his bubbly gas!! In the end he gave me the dress he found at Second Chances. It fits like a dream. I just can’t be mad at him. I love him so.

Just a case in point about this thread. I went jogging tonight, not biking. As I was coming up a slight hill there was a woman, her young daughter and a small leashed dog running back and forth on the sidewalk. From about 20 feet back, I said “on your left” in a very calm voice. She was instantly startled and jumped to her left into the grass, the dog with her staying on her left with a nice leash to trip over, and the kid stayed on the sidewalk.

I was far enough away that they didn’t jump in my path or anything, but I would have scared them a lot less and been safer had I said nothing, which is exactly what I did to a couple earlier on my run, just silently running by on thier left.

Yelling doesn’t work. I guess slowing down is just the best option. However, if you are on Alki on the clearly marked bike path, not the sidewalk, then I will still fly by you :)
