“Barack Obama’s motto “Change you can believe in” has acquired a new meaning– changing his positions is the only thing you can believe in.”

Also from highly respected conservative columnist Thomas Sowell.

So I guess Danny Devito was in town quite a bit recently because his daughter played Anne Frank in the Intiman’s “The diary of Anne Frank”. Not sure why he was in West Seattle though, and not sure why she saw him 2 weeks ago since the play only went through May. Maybe she is in something else.

Noted conservative columnist Thomas Sowell, writing for the very conservative Townhall.com:

“If all that was involved was Democrats versus Republicans, the Republicans would deserve the condemnation they are getting, after their years of wild spending and their multiple betrayals of the principles and the people who got them elected.”

Rather than ordering prints, we had the Puget Sound Regional Archives email us digital copies of our house photos. We then had the option of printing the photos in various sizes. We ended up framing an 8 x 10 to hang in the living room, & we had smaller sizes made for inclusion in a photo album.

The archives sent the photos to us in .tif format. There was a photo taken in 1937 & another taken in 1952. File size for each was approximately 2 MB.

We also visited the archives in person, as the article mentions. That was very interesting & worthwhile, because they have quite a few general photos of different Seattle neighborhoods & landmarks. We live near Camp Long & found that some of the general photos of Camp Long had views of our house in the background.

I own and operate a environmentally friendly lawn care service called Clean Air Lawn Care. I am West Seattle based. We operate only battery and electric operated equipment that is powered by renewable energy sources; i.e solar panels on our trucks. Our staff is educated, friendly and considerate of your lawn and your property. We would be happy to provide an estimate for anyone that is interested. Thank you.

    New Resident…

the myth of a United States with streets paved with gold has existed since the early years of our country.

people still come to find them.

however, increasingly Americans are finding that the path to opportunity isn’t as available to them as it once was… even Michelle Obama supposedly shopped at Target:)

Those with skills to sell have realized they can earn a better living and quality of life elsewhere…

even Americans are now looking for employment overseas in record numbers.

When i was a young woman, the promise of opportunity was great… and many of my contemporaries invested a lifetime of hard work in that promise to find themselves without promised pensions and with retirement funds that now hold fewer dollars than they put into them.. in spite of the miracle of compounding interest.

The idea that all is well in America is nothing more than a myth.

    wsblover…

Your point of view amuses me.

Republicans have been in power.. the economy is in trouble.. we are in a war that is bankrupting our nation financially and morally.

the republican appointees currently in place are busy purging the voter rolls of democrats in swing states…

our current white house is circumventing law by creating policies ..

and the constitution is largely overlooked.. our president thinks the laws congress passes can be ignored with no more than a signing statement saying the law does not apply.

last i looked most republicans thought the word liberal was a swear word…

and you think that the democrats are somehow narrow minded and want only a one party system;)

    yeah… right.

I may be in the market for a house/cat-sitter for about ten days in September. House is single family, quiet neighborhood, close to Westwood Village, and very bus-friendly. Two boy kitties, indoor only, one older on medication (tiny pills), both very friendly. Fresh veggies (tomatoes, peppers, beets, beans, carrots) should be flowing from the garden by then. Any recommendations?

Robin Williams is in town. I went to the Sub-Pop comedy show at the Moore and saw him walking down the street soon after. I asked him if I could buy him a beer and what he was up to that night. He kind of rudly replied, “I’m going to go get drunk”. Anyway he’s around. Also did’nt they film “Step Brothers” here in West Seattle?

If you get your ballot in the next few days then your registration is in good order. If you don’t or are just curious, follow the above link and use the box on the right side of the page to check your registration status while there is still time to do something about it.

Please note. Ballots which have a signature that does not match the one on file may be rejected.

Just because the primary is now called the “Top Two” primary, does NOT mean you can vote for more than one candidate in each race. It will be sad to see the number of spoiled ballots this unfortunate nomenclature will cause.

But by far, the most rejected ballots come from people who do not read the damn instructions, or write notes in the margins, write in names without filling in the oval and include white powder, crayon marks, food, food stains, glue or unidentified objects in with their ballot.

A non zero percentage of absentee ballots are received each year in virgin condition, with nary a mark nor vote on them.

If you are responsible for an elderly or otherwise challenged voter, try to make sure they understand what they are doing with their ballot.

If you vote at the kitchen table, mop up that coffee spill and jam before laying out the ballot.

Do not let your 3 year old color in the ovals for you while you are on the phone.

    And read the instructions.

I do lean towards restricting voting to those who can read the damn instructions, but that is contrary to the constitution and I post these reminders in hopes more voters will not be disenfranchised because they did not RTFM.

Our house was built in ’84 but as a gift for my SIL years ago I got the info re: her home in Wallingford (built in 1909) and it was an 8/10 photo and I also had the info re: the original purchase and subsequent purchases. the house was originally built for about $900 or so and now worth well over $500,000 (probably more but I’m assuming it has lost value recently. LOL!)

Historically all republicans are not Authoritarian followers and sociopaths. But conversely, all authoritarian followers and sociopaths are conservative.

    http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2006/08/cracks-in-wall-part-i-defining.html

The current republican party is fast purging its non authoritarians.

Dwight Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater and even Abe Lincoln would be Democrats today and attacked as liberals, commies and socialists by Fox pundits.

The GOP was hijacked by the fringe and those of you who cannot recognize it, should accept that *you* are that fringe.

I have the 8 x 10 photo of our house from 1937 and it’s great. (Reminds me I have to get a frame for it.)

I also ordered the 1972 photo of our house, but only got a 5 x 7 because the man at the archives was nice enough to tell me he’d pulled the negatives and the 1972 one was slightly out of focus.

I still ordered it since I wanted to compare changes to the house over the years, but it certainly isn’t frame-quality.

So my advice is go for the 8 x 10. And my interesting finding was that my house still has the same screen door as was on the house in 1972.

Do you know if they have any tools that they provide for gardening work, or are you expected to provide tools for them?

It sounds great- especially if its possible to have them show up with tools to do weeding and pruning.

I used to buy 2 magazines, at least a week at this store. Now with the new stands I can’t find anything that I’m looking for and feel like I am hovering over people that are in the lines.

Wish they would go back to the old version or put them up front by the flowers or something… this new system has me spending my money elsewhere.

We have two photos of our house built in 1929, one of it first built and another a few years later. They actually have been passed down by all the different owners who have purchased our place. They are King County photos and they are great quality. We have them in 8 x 10 frames because the photo paper is 8 x 10 though the pictures are a little smaller.

We also have all the original paperwork for when our house was first sold. I die a little inside when I think of it initially being sold for $7,500!

I recently learned that the King County Archives has old photos of houses available for purchase. Apparently, there is at least one picture of virtually every house in King County that was built prior to 1937. I contacted them and they have a 1937 photo of my house, and I was going to order a print of it. I’m trying to figure out how big of a picture to get and wanted to check to see if anyone else had gotten pictures from them. If so, what is the quality like? How big would you recommend? Any interesting findings from the old pictures?

Here’s a link to an article about getting pictures:

Well here’s the update to my crazy neighbor problem…

It’s taken a lot of phone tag to finally speak to a Adult Protective Service representative. There is nothing they can do for her at this point. I don’t know if she’s in their computer so they know her real age, but they do only help adults 60 and over. Frustrating…. The only thing APS could do was give me the phone number for Sound Mental Health, of all places. We’ll see if they have any leads on who to contact.

However, I have been able to find out more information about the property she lives on. The deed was just transfered to the name of her trust fund. I need to do more research about what that means.

If anyone has any more ideas out different avenues to try to get this lady some help, I would be grateful. Calling APS was one of the hardest phone calls I’ve ever made because I don’t want to turn my neighbor’s life upside down and comprimise my families safety.

JoB I was kind of joking but considering all of the bashing that has gone on for so many years, it does seem like Dems just don’t think Republicans are necessary but is only having one party a good idea? Atleast this is the message I am hearing Dems give off.

Also, IMO Dems see themselves as the good guys and gals who are liberal and accepting, open minded, nice, etc and the Conservatives are the meanies. This hasn’t been my experience. Ironic isn’t it? The Dems I know and whos opinions I have read, not just here, are interpreted by me as stubbon, closed minded, and smarmy. Not all Dems!

I’ve never seen such frothing hatred for anyone like the Dems have towards Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al. It’s all we ever hear. I don’t understand it. You are entitled to your opinions but some of the conspiracy theories you come up with are just incredible. Where do you get your information?

Why do people love Clinton but hate Bush when they both have skeletons? That’s what I’ve always tried to understand.

Many movies have had scenes shot in Seattle such as The Slender Thread, McQ, Cinderella Liberty and It Happened at the World’s Fair. But what movies have had scenes shot in West Seattle and where were they?

The only one I’ve ever witnessed is when they shot some scenes outside the house at 38th and Belvidere for Harry and the Hendersons. One of those big car carrier trucks with “Universal Studios” on the door sat for about a week down the street (they truck up cars specially outfitted for cameras, sound and handling.) The scene they shot at that house didn’t involve any cars so I don’t know where the cars were used.

I remember when Frances was released and there was some ire at the time about how they didn’t use Frances Farmer’s actual childhood house on 47th between Admiral and Lander in the movie, though they did tart up the exterior of the old Paramount Theater downtown for shooting there.

Anyone else have any memories specifically of West Seattle locations?

I don’t know if this is true or not…

and mostly i don’t care except to shake my head and feel sad for everyone involved….

but this is just one of the opening salvos…

inquiring minds would much rather know about a possible sex scandal than purged voter rolls…

True or not, we can’t afford to buy the distraction.

John Edwards is not running for President.. and with this wannabe scandal, we can be pretty sure he is not running for Vice president either.

We need to send some sort of message that says this type of behavior by elected officials is not acceptable and will not be tolerated or it could happen again. I personally want Bush prosecuted ala Vincent Bulgosi but realize that is probably not realistic to expect.

I second the YMCA. It has the best family programs. They separate the kids by age. Babies, toddlers and bigger kids. The kids LOVE it. (well, my younger one does, my older one doesn’t as much) they wear the kids out.
