My friend lives on 40th ave SW between 100th and 102nd and he watched a guy walk his German Shepard down the street, leave three rather large piles and keep walking. When he confront the gentleman, the guy turned around and very aggressively responded with “F&$* You” … such lovely folks giving the rest of us a bad name

The way the street trees are installed are a violation of SDOT’s own street tree rules. The trees planted on the east side of 35th are red oaks, which get 60′ tall and wide. The Street tree rules require an 8′ wide planting strip for this species; these new trees are planted in compacted strips 3-4′ wide. But the most idiotic plantings are on the west side. It was determined that trees could not be planted in the wide, new planting strips along the street due to “utilities”. Not exactly sure what they were referring to; there are overhead wires as well as underground utilities, both of which were in place before the construction. Instead (and this is where it goes off the rails wacko) the arborist planted trees between the sidewalk and the private property lines. It won’t be long before the soil washes off of the root balls due to the significant grade change on this side. Some trees have been planted directly under the canopy of existing trees on private property, actually touching the branches overhead, or squeezed between large trees. Nor will the minor adjustment from one side of the sidewalk to the other prevent these trees from interfering with utilities. If these trees are able to grow at all, they will quickly intrude on both the sidewalk and private property, as well as heave the new sidewalks.

Speaking of which, the contracted SDOT inspector, who was on site for the entire construction period, says all the new ramps have to be rebuilt as they are not ADA compliant. Some have been a couple of times already. When I asked why they weren’t installed correctly the FIRST time, he just shrugged and said “I don’t know”. This from the inspector, for Chrissake. Seattle taxpayers are being fleeced.

As I said above, the way these new trees have been installed is a violation of SDOT’s own rules. If a taxpaying property owner applied for a permit to plant these species in these locations, they would be denied.

As for the sidewalks, I was told this morning by the inspector (who was on site daily during the prolonged construction) that all the new ramps have to be demolished and rebuilt as they are not ADA compliant. How in hell does something like that go unnoticed? When I asked why it wasn’t done right the FIRST time, he shrugged and said “I don’t know”. Well, he damn well should know. Taxpayers are being fleeced.

    They’re baaaack….

SDOT has moved the heavy equipment back onto 35th, closing sections of the street without notice. They just finished this project at the end of October, two months + overdue. Now they’re re-excavating and demolishing sections of the new sidewalks and ramps. They are, at this moment, smashing concrete in front of my neighbor’s house, who have a newborn baby. Nice.

The glaring issues mentioned by Greystreet, visible to anyone with at least one eyeball and two gray cells, were installed without question by these bozos and their inspector. Multiple people reported these issues to SDOT, but they refused to correct the errors as they were in progress. For example, they really did a number on my entry. That’s when I discovered that their blueprint/plans in regard to my property were incorrect. When I pointed this error out to the moron-in-chief, who was sent out to shut me up, he said he wasn’t interested in errors on the blueprint. So there you have it.

Now, neighbors are again to be subjected to this nightmare of noise, destruction, and damage. Perhaps worse, we – and ALL of you – are paying for this boondoggle, including the bizarrely placed ‘street trees’. We received no notice that this was to happen, so have no idea of the scope or duration of the re-construction. I really wish someone would look into this gross waste of time and taxpayer money, but neither Jenny Durkan, Lisa Herbold, or Jesse at KIRO were interested.

WS79, your comment makes no sense. Where did I state, or even insinuate, that Bertha had no right to disagree with me? Or are you suggesting the reverse = that I can’t disagree? She did, however, state that I should limit my speech and vote in a way that meets with her approval. That is wrong, and I again assert my own right to free speech by disagreeing with it. Since ‘she’ can’t “take away” my voting rights unless she kills me, it’s a ridiculous argument.

No. What is sad is you and your stilted verbiage and baffling claims.

That you raise phantom complaints is sad. That you then shy away from an actual discussion when people SPECIFICALLY ask you about those complaints–that is sad.

Your disgraceful approach to–nay, not even an approach to–your disgraceful flight from discussion is what serves as an example of horrible behavior.

You seem nothing more than a troll. Your intention is not to debate merits or flaws, but merely to annoy and pester… And then when someone finally calls you on it, oh, hey, you get to turn around and waggle your finger and shake your head and say, tsk tsk, how uncivil people are.

    You don’t fool me.

PNTA is seeking intelligent, motivated, career-minded individuals who want to work hard and be promoted within a live production company. We are currently adding a Retail Sales Associate, preferably with technical entertainment, live production, or theatrical interests and background, who wants to train in and work a retail/customer service position in PNTA’s Seattle retail store. Our retail store positions are important training grounds for developing highly skilled entertainment-supporting professionals. Your primary responsibility as a Sales Associate is to act as the client’s champion by listening and seeking to understand, teaching, facilitating, problem-solving, and following-up until the client’s needs are met, even post-sale.

Your clients will primarily come from the theatrical, architectural, corporate, educational, industrial, event support, and house of worship market segments. As a Sales Associate you will train and work at the direction of the Retail Store Manager, who will be successful only if she is able to engage and empower you in effectively working with customers, other staff throughout our company, and with PNTA’s manufacturers and suppliers.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer Communications. You should like talking to customers in person or on the phone and you and believe a happy customer is a customer that never needs to ask what is going on with their order. You return emails and phone calls within the same business day, even if it’s only to say when you will be in touch with a more complete answer to their inquiry, fully confident in your ability to follow-through on your promise. You are highly organized and can use systems put into place so that you don’t “forget”. You are fearless when it comes to juggling the demands of multiple customers all at once, and can self-prioritize so that no balls are dropped. You live by the motto: “under promise, over deliver.”

Product Knowledge. It’s really helpful if you have some experience in live event production or some other technical field, but it’s not a necessity. Regardless of prior experience, you should have a voracious appetite for knowledge, comfortable with your geeky side and eager to learn about new technologies and products so you can teach co-workers and clients. There are no bounds to the topics that interest you, and no product applications that you don’t have some desire to investigate. If you have ever been called a “jack of all trades (with a cool head under fire)”, this is a position you can enjoy.

Sales. If you’ve read this far, you should have a pretty good idea of what we expect in terms of salesmanship. At PNTA we aim to create customers for life who return again and again, because we deliver exceptional service. While we are known for our technical expertise, our honesty, and our creative problem-solving are important as well. You will generate and manage sales, service, and rental transactions and enter and the related purchase requirements for items not in stock. You understand the importance of documenting transactions completely and accurately.

Inventory control. You are heads up enough to make sure inventory is being well merchandised and properly priced and notice when we have too much or too little of an item, letting the Purchaser know so that the problem can be addressed. You don’t mind filling shelves with incoming inventory and keeping the store looking tidy and attractive. You have ideas on how to present key products in an attractive and educational manner, and the gumption to execute on your ideas.

    Other (sometimes Seasonal) Duties:
Assist in other departments, including warehouse and/or shipping, and with periodic inventories as needed.
Assist in fulfilling web-based sales orders.

    Qualifications:

Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
Must be mobile and active, able to stand, walk, bend and lift merchandise up to 50 lbs.
Must have basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications.
Must have the ability to read and write English.
Must have solid math skills, including measurement, conversions and determining quantities needed (e.g., basic algebra and geometry). Advanced calculus and quantum physics is conversationally appreciated but unnecessary.
    Must be dependable and punctual.
A sense of humor is strongly recommended but can’t be required.
One (1) year production experience preferred but not a requirement
One (1) year customer service experience preferred but not a requirement.

If we haven’t scared you off yet, submit a cover letter to qbxhq-6758467376@job.craigslist.org.

Did you find any contractor for this work?
If you are still searching for a contractor, then I would suggest you to check for local contractors in your area. I know about the Home Quality Remodeling team who provides all the home improvement services.
Make sure to check their reviews to find more information about them before you finalize any contractor.

Last night (11/10), around 5:00, it was nice out, so my wife and I decided to take our small dog, and the dog we’re watching for a friend (a 70+ pound Afghan Hound) for a walk along the beach at Lincoln Park. We didn’t know how well she reacts to other dogs, so I literally had her on a short leash. Sure enough, she would occasionally bark and try to make aggressive moves towards some other dogs. We decided to head back, and about midway between the north end of the trail and Coleman Pool, I saw a man with a golden retriever on the beach. Of course that in itself is illegal, but at least I didn’t have to worry about them. Or so I thought.

Our dog (the big one), caught sight of the other dog and started barking. I grabbed her by her harness in order to keep better control of her while they passed. Except the other dog started running right towards us. Which is when I realized it wasn’t on a leash. Our dog started freaking out. And even though I’m 5’10” and 170 pounds, I was having a very hard time controlling her. I stood over top of her and grabbed the harness with both hands, but it was still like trying to control a bucking bronco.

I started yelling at the guy, first demanding to know why his dog wasn’t on a leash. He responded by saying they’re just playing. My dog was frantically barking, growling, and desperate to break my grip. I don’t know the dog that well, but I know dogs enough in general to know that this was not playing. I yelled even more frantically at the guy to get his dog on a leash, and he continued to insist that they were just playing. Meanwhile, my wife was attempting to get in between the dogs, as they were growling and lunging at each other.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, but was likely only 15 seconds, the other guy pulled his dog away. Once we were separated by about 10 feet I again yelled at the guy to get his dog on a leash. He once again insisted that they were just playing. I told him that it was illegal, and if he didn’t get his dog on a leash, I’d be calling the police. We then went our separate ways.

It was utterly baffling at how completely oblivious this guy was to what was going on. I can only assume it was a defense mechanism, since he knew full well he was breaking the law by letting his dog run off leash, and he was trying to minimize what happened. Even IF his dog was “just playing”, our dog most certainly was not. And at about twice his dog’s size, it wouldn’t have been pretty, had I “let them play”. And just in case there’s any doubt that our dog wasn’t playing, my wife walked away with a bite to her thigh. It was our dog who did it. Otherwise I would have run back, tackled the guy, and called the cops.

So proof #235,356,378 as to why you should always keep your dog on a leash in public. I’d wonder why there weren’t more police around to enforce it. But considering they don’t have the bandwidth to keep cars from being broken into in the parking lots there, ticketing leash scofflaws is probably just a pipe dream.

The Senior Center of West Seattle is seeking an on-call Friday BINGO CALLER! We have a dedicated, fun group of about 20 bingo players on Fridays. The volunteer position is to fill-in when needed (probably at least one Friday/month) from 10:30-2:30, with a break for your delicious and FREE lunch! The training period is about 3-4 Fridays to learn the machine and the process. If you have always had a desire to call bingo, this is the perfect start to get your feet wet, gain experience and see what you think.

We stopped at around 4:45 by Avalon and Bradford because passengers started screaming at the bus driver to stop. A man in the back was aggressively yelling in a woman’s face, calling her a “dumb, white bitch”. He was holding something in his hand that looked like spray. I have no idea what triggered that incident and would like some details. I am still recovering from that bus ride.

Please be kind and do not take your dog to true value, or qfc, or clothing stores. Dogs do not have fun there and neither do people with allergies. Please take your dog to Lincoln Park and other outdoor places where they will actually have fun. This is not meant to be a negative comment rather more a comment to the person who suggested true value. We saw a dog the other night eating next to their owner at Eliott bay brewery in Burien…y.u.c.k.

Hi Everyone. Wow, just wow. Thank you for everyone’s generosity. Because of all of you, Jane was able to pay the $800 hidden moving fees (plus a $55 ‘service fee’ for the pleasure of paying the bill).

With a total of $1,000 raised, we are close to being able to cover the remaining rent balance of $300.00. Each day she is late, adds $$s to the rent balance, but with all of this support, we will get there.

Any funds beyond this will go to providing food for Jane & her dogs. (as stated in the original post). Being off work for 2 weeks for medical reasons set her back as she currently struggles to make ends meet each month. Someday she will get to a point where she can save for emergencies, but that time is out in the future.

Thank you for supporting Jane through this rough patch. Please feel free to share this post on FB, etc.,

Thanks again, to each of you, for your empathy and support of Jane and her dogs.

    Warm Regards,
    Teri

Hello all! My apologies, I didn’t see these replies!!!

The man appears to be in his 50’s, maybe 60’s, but I can’t tell if this is because he’s had a rough life or really is older. Looks like he has scraggly, grey hair coming down under the ball cap he’s usually wearing. He’s caucasian. Most distinguishable ‘feature’ would be his raspy, sometimes deep (seems to get more pronounced the more worked up he is) aggressive voice/tone. He also has a very specific ‘schlep’ or cadence, quick but with one foot sometimes really dragging. His face has an aggressive, upset scowl to it.

As for who specifically it is, I’ve heard from another neighbor that he thinks he lives down on 41st, but since I run around here all the time, I can’t really envision which house that would be, I guess I’ll have to pay more attention next time I circle down there. I’ve also never seen him close or lingering near a house enough to even think he could belong there.

The police said there was nothing they could do if he didn’t have a weapon, which I’ve since learned I should have just said that yes, he indeed did have a weapon when he came at me: he was using the metal end of my security sign as the object he seemingly was going to ‘shred’ me with. In shock, when the police asked if he had a weapon on the phone, I didn’t see a gun or knife or anything, but in hindsight, a weapon could be anything and I should have said yes, then they could have responded.

Since this has happened (Friday, October 26th) he returned for rounds later that evening as I mentioned, and apparently was around the following week (this past week) quite a bit, specifically Monday and Tuesday. In fact, my neighbor who I ran to when it happened (lives across the way from me) called me on Tuesday morning to let me know that the man was out and about being pretty active and to be careful. He also said that while he was out keeping an eye on him, he got pretty aggressive so he took a video of him. Then, one of the mom’s sitting in her car which was parked right in front of our houses rolled down her window and said she and some of the other moms were really nervous because they’d seen him around and were getting worried and wanted to know who he was. Also, that she was calling the police to report him since he’s lingering around a school so much. My neighbor called me again to know that police were finally scouting the area looking for him so I should find some comfort in the fact that they’re aware and acting.

Around 2pm on that Tuesday, October 30th, I was coming down Dakota and saw a police car turn from 41st, left onto Dakota, then left down the/my alley where the Holy Rosary drop off happens, then back down Dakota and back down 41st. I paused at the top of 41st and Dakota and saw 3-4 officers near the end of street, so I drove down. Got long looks from them as I drove by and saw the man handcuffed and sitting on the ground. He was talking to the cops the cops looked humored/annoyed. I thought about pulling over, or just rolling down the window recount what happened with me and him, but I didn’t. Wish now that I had.

Anyhow, I don’t know what came of that, if they arrested him or what. And I haven’t seen him around. Anyone else know more?

Also, I’m sure I’ve dropped enough info for you to figure out where I’m at, so if you see me, please say hello or don’t hesitate to even come knock to introduce (most the HR kids don’t even knock anymore to go retrieve their balls from the backyard, ;). I was going to go chat with Dave the playground attendant, and also the HR principle on Monday just share my experience and see if there’s any news as well.

Hoping we can keep our neighborhood as safe as possible, all! Thanks for all your responses and please update if you know more.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone that has donated to help Jane and her dogs stay in her home. Ran into a friend at Hotwire Online Coffeehouse…she just handed me $20 for Jane.

Jane met with a certain organization this morning. After going through everything, having to explain her last 5+ years of struggle and fear, they said no to her application. They offered to pray with her/for her….all she could do is walk away, crying.

Total amount raised stands at $205.00. Please share this with folks you know. If we can get 90 people to donate $10 each, Jane will have enough to cover the immediate housing $$s. Anything over that will help with food for the next month until she is back on her feet.

She has worked so hard to overcome the obstacles thrown at her due to domestic violence and homelessness. Please help me and others , help her to keeping moving forward. Thank you, Teri

The SDOT contractors for the Arbor Heights sidewalk project are gone, finally – but the mess remains at the NW corner of 35th & 102nd. They came back a week ago and spent several hours loading the wood forms, posts, etc. that they wanted, but left behind the trash – plastic pipes, cardboard, discarded water bottles, etc. Taxpayers paid a bundle for this boondoggle, and they can’t even clean up after themselves. Disgusting. They even had the nerve to yell at me for trying to clean up some of it on their last day.

I swear I’m thinking about buying a taser or something. Even going thru an area of the Seattle Center recently, there was a man jumping and yelling at someone in his head, and stopping and looking up at the people around him. What would I do, if he became physically aggressive to me or my friends? So here in W.S. we have someone, who sounds like a ticking time bomb ready to explode. It is a shame, that we have become so politically paranoid, that we/they can’t describe this person in a little more detail. TonyPosse, you’re being so polite in trying to ask, what the heck does this guy look like? Black white blue green, old, young, I don’t care, but he needs a description. I frequent this area many times thru the week. And what DO the police do? Does he physically have to do personal or property damage before he is picked up and assessed?
