Valvashon makes it clear “why” it bothers them. People get charged extra for overflowing trash. People get charged for lids that aren’t put on properly. So, it makes sense to not want people to open their garbage cans and dispose of their own waste.

For the record… I do not use other people’s trash cans to dispose of anything but am OK with others using my can at home to drop an occasional bagged dog waste, if they need it. I too am happy that they are picking up after their pets.

That being said, perhaps a sign on garbage bins stating something like, “not for animal or human waste disposal” might work.

Hmmm, they’re looking for someone “quick and smart” – looks like figuring out what business it is is part of the test. Based on the wording of the article, I did a search and found a similar posting on Craigslist. There was an address, which I googled, and found the Roxbury Spine and Wellness clinic: http://www.roxburyspineandwellnessclinic.com/

So, do I get the job?? :)

I agree with “person” even though THAT name sounds a bit weird :-). I think it’s an algorithm poking us. Stinky finger, I’d say…

If it’s not-a-bot, you’ll probably get your answer with a quick glance at the Seattle utilities pages. You know, the people that paint those Fish Stencils next to Storm Drains.

they have until today to move..
and if was them and just stopped and could move my vehicle i would probably ride out the time limit before i had to move.
i jsut hope their vehicle(s) can move because if not they will literally be on our streets… as they will be impounded.
moving them down the hill into a tent isn’t going to improve the situation if they are drug users.

Thank you for backing me up on this WS 1979 and T Rex. Ed, you should ask first. My trashcan is my private property. I pay to have it emptied. Of my garbage. Sitting out does not make it a community trash can. If moving it 6 feet to under my stairs keeps you out of it, you should keep out of it no matter where it is.

I have never understood why people would do this? If you don’t like carrying the poop in the plastic bag, then buy a kid’s plastic sand bucket or something similar to put the bag in till you get home. Put your crap in your own trash!!!

It’s Tuesday afternoon at 6:00 pm. My tiny garbage can has been sitting out on the curb empty for just over 24 hours. During that span three dog owners thought my open can was theirs to use and deposited their dog waste in it. It isn’t. Should I have brought my can in earlier? Yes, probably, but I was deathly ill over the weekend and going outside to pull the can in was more than I could handle. I don’t have a dog. I don’t like your sanctimonious attitude regarding your dog. You bought the dog. You carry little plastic bags to pick up your dog’s waste. It’s your responsibility to bring it home with you, or at least to a PUBLIC trash receptacle. Garbage rates are high in this city. This is why I have a tiny trash can. Sometimes all my HUMAN garbage from a week doesn’t fit. I certainly don’t want your dog waste in my can. Your little bags are out on the curb ready for you to pick up tomorrow.

i did drive by riverview today. both vehicles that are still there are tagged. i have met the woman who lives .. or lived.. in the minivan and as far as i know she was just disabled and couldn’t get housing. i don’t know the people in the other RV and did not get to meet them today but the RV is clean and the area is tidy…

no matter. they will be gone one way or another. if the vehicles can no longer be driven they will be impounded … and if they can.. well they will be someone else’s “problem” soon enough.

i have to go back out in a bit to mail my ballot and will stop by again to see when they have to be gone and if they need assistance leaving.

The skill of conversation seems like a skill we older citizens have been bad at setting an example for the younger generation. The winner takes all approach takes a toll on me and I think it does no favors for everyone. Our elected officials are just as guilty with the inability to “agree to disagree”. I have hope for the pendulum to swing us the other way.

I feel bad for you to have to deal with such a thoughtless neighbor. People have to provide adequate shelter for their pets so since this neighbor leaves the cat out, does it have a dry shelter? If not, you can call the number below. Here is the description:

Animal cruelty includes abandonment of a pet, physical abuse, failure to provide food, water, shelter or veterinary care, fighting of animals, putting animals in a situation that causes distress (i.e. a hot car) or keeping an animal in unsanitary conditions.  If you are concerned for the welfare of an animal, contact us immediately at (206) 386-7387.
Officers will investigate the situation.  Depending on the nature of the case, officers may impound the animal or give the owner a time period to come into compliance.  Citations and/or criminal charges may result.

The cat deserves a better life.

I hope I am right too and that she is just making the rounds. My roommates and I once adopted a cat that had been abandoned by our neighbors. This was in college, and it took us a while to figure out that she was starving because she always hung out on the couch on our front porch even before she was abandoned. We didn’t know the neighbors had moved and left her behind. She was very old, and we gave her a good home for the last 2 years of her life. I’ll never understand how anyone could just abandon a senior cat like that.

dcn, yes I have wondered that too that she’s just making the rounds for free food but we are a small neighborhood and know when and when our neighbors are not home and have lived here for 10 plus years and many a time when they are gone for more than 1 day the cat is to fend for herself with no way of getting inside thier house. :>( they are gone right now and she was here shivering at our back door a few hours ago.
I guess I’m ranting because I just don’t understand how someone can not care for a pet like that.

We had a similar situation here. Poor kitty mewing at the door during freezing weather, going back 11 years. A few neighbors took her in (we included)at times, but the owner insisted she wasn’t happy indoors, and let her run free. Well, she didn’t do well outdoors either. It just continued sadly until her recent passing–not a passing you would wish on any animal.

    Could we have done more?

We have a neighbor that has a dog and a cat well the cat is free to roam the neighborhood all year long, we at 1st thought she was a stray but found out the neighbors 2 doors down own her we told them she visits us and we were feeding her because we thought she was a stray and they said “no we leave her out because we don’t want a cat box”. ???!!! Isn’t that part of owning a cat??? ours have a box and they do not go outside ever. Well every winter she comes around at all times of the day and night looking to come inside because she’s cold we’ve let her in a few times and she’ll sleep for hours on end but most of the time we physically take her home knock on their door and say “she’s at our back slider and is cold” and all they do is grab her and say thank you for bringing her home. REALLY!?! During the warm months she stops by and looks like she’s been sleeping somewhere in the dirt…I feel so bad for her but we can’t take her in because we have 2 of our own.
What would you all do? We have talked to the owners a few times but nothing has become of it, why don’t they find someone who would take care of her??? I guess I’m just ranting and worried because the cold weather is here again.

Trileigh, has the owner been found yet?

If not, I’m going to go out on a bit of a limb and ask if the initials are “M.S.”, and if the person in the pic on it looks like the guy in the pic in the upper left of this post? ETA: Well, it looks like my profile pic is no longer showing here.

I lost (and have replaced), my pass about 8 months ago, but did so either on a bus that the closest it came to the Morgan Junction that day was a couple miles or so to the southeast, or, it was lost after I exited the bus at Delridge & Barton.

I do get to the Morgan Junction area a couple times or so a month while visiting Thriftway, but not on that day.

Erik is truly an artist, who cares about the trees, the health of the whole plant ecosystem of your property — and enhancing views in a responsible way. He started work this summer at my next-door neighbor’s, and by early this fall he had worked on 7 of us neighbors’ trees. We are all uniformly delighted with the results.

He’s a great person, with a big heart. He doesn’t always respond quickly, or adhere to a typical regular schedule. But if you work with him I know you will get wonderful results. We are really thrilled to have our views back, but also to have our trees healthy and pruned responsibly so they can live many more decades.
