“there are two major things that changed.
Tax rates for the rich and corporations were lowered and we had a huge unfunded war”
Here’s where I disagree that these are facts.
1. Not only were tax rates for the rich lowered. Individual tax rates across the board were lowered. A person earning $12,000 per year saw a tax decrease.
2. Tax rates for corporations were not lowered. The current tax rates for corporations have remained the same since 1986.
3. The “huge unfunded war” was not the only major expense the U.S. increased in the past few years. Increase in food stamp spending has been very substantial. Additionally, the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act has cost about $550 billion. I consider that a material part of spending. My point is this – I don’t see how one can conclude it is a FACT that the unfunded war has caused the deficit. There is a lot more in play than just an unfunded war.
I’m not saying food stamps or prescription drugs are bad. I just want to share that I find it difficult to discuss matters when people state opinions as fact.
