Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 – Meet Grampa Gus

Steve Marx is familiar to Kenyon Hall audiences as the banjoist in the popular Bluegrass band, Ryegrass. What you may not know is that Steve’s grandfather was one of America’s greatest lyricists, the esteemed Gus Kahn. (Just a few of his songs—Memories, Toot Toot Tootsie, It Had to be You, Makin’ Whoopee, and Dream a Little Dream of Me.)

Steve has created a new show that features the music of Grampa Gus, as told with his band, One Planet Jazz, and with Hollywood movie clips and family stories. Fly down to Rio with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, and an ensemble of winged bathing beauties. Watch Marilyn Monroe croon “I’m Through With Love” in a most-revealing dress. And find out how, after producing over 200 rejected lyrics, Gus came to write his first hit song.
