Join us on Monday, April 25, 2016 for our Community Parent Education Night where we will be discussing teen anxiety and its affect on the daily lives of middle school students and their families.

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns for children and adults, affecting upwards of 20% of children and adolescents over the lifespan. Sadly, untreated anxiety can lead to depression, missed opportunities in career and relationships, increased substance use, and a decreased quality of life.

Parents play an essential role in helping their child or teen manage anxiety. Do you have questions about your child’s level of anxiety when it comes to school, homework, or family and social situations? Do you need new strategies to help with these challenges at home or school?

Anxiety can be managed and our two experts on teen anxiety help us understand how anxiety works, what’s normal and what’s not, and what you need to know.

Our speakers, Peter Weiss and Carolyn Carlson, are licensed mental health practitioners. This presentation and discussion will cover trends and types of teen anxiety, normal anxiety vs. clinically problematic, when to consider therapy, dealing with resistance to therapy, and supporting parents and families of teens experiencing anxiety.

About the Presenters:
Peter Weiss is a father and practitioner with a Masters degree in Mental Health counseling and has focused his post graduate training around treatment of anxiety disorders. Carolyn Carlson, MA LMHC is a practicing therapist who treats teens, adults and children. She has a sub-specialty of treating folks who are on the continuum of gender and the LGBTQ community as a whole.
