John, a flamboyant and funny waiter working evenings at Jak’s Grill and weekend brunch at Skylark Cafe & Club, was hospitalized yesterday evening after suffering a brain aneurysm. Friends say the prognosis is not good, and he could really use the prayers of his customers and friends right now.

The Times just posted that West Seattle’s ex-city councilmember and citizen activist Charlie Chong is gone. Most recently, as we mentioned in February, he had lent his support to the Charlestown Cafe campaign, although we’ll always remember him best for the snowplows. 11:15 AM UPDATE: The P-I has an article up now too.

Almost forgot to mention one other bit of news picked up at the Charlestown Cafe meeting: A big WS job we mentioned three months ago is no longer open. The Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association has a new executive director, Derek Birnie. The DNDA site doesn’t have much on him yet, but here’s a bio from a previous gig. DNDA has a lot going on, most notably — at the moment — the new Community Resource Center that’s ever-closer to completion at 35th & Morgan.

For those of us who gaze at the waterfront homes on Beach Drive and dream of living in one, the Times’ Pacific Magazine today takes us inside the mansion of Scott Lipsky, the GalleryPlayer chair also described as having “retired” from Amazon (despite his apparently young age). Good to hear that at least one dot-com $$$-holder has enough taste to live on Puget Sound instead of clustering with the others near Gatesland on Lake Washington!
