West Seattle, Washington
28 Sunday
10:42 AM: Emergency responders are headed toward what might be two separate crashes toward the end of the westbound West Seattle Bridge – one pickup truck reported to have hit a pole, another reported to have hit the median. If you’re headed this way, you might consider an alternate route, or exiting the bridge before you get to the last stretch.
10:45 AM: No injuries reported so far. But this may affect eastbound traffic too, which will have to be blocked off to reset the median barrier – an SDOT crew is being summoned for that.
11:18 AM: Currently “one lane blocked eastbound and one blocked westbound,” police have told dispatch. And eastbound will be fully closed eastbound shortly for the barrier reset.
11:40 AM: Fully open again both ways.
6:01 AM: Good morning! Welcome to Thursday, November 14.

Thanks for the tips and photo. A car wound up on the Admiral/Olga embankment a few hours ago and police are blocking bridge-bound traffic on the curve as they work to get it unstuck. So far as we can tell from the logs, no one was hurt in the original incident.
8:55 AM: Jay texted to say the Delridge onramp to the bridge is suffering from its “standard flooding” and there’s a backup on Delridge as a result.
8:14 AM: Three-vehicle collision at 2nd/Olson, blocking northbound on Olson per dispatch.
6:48 AM: If you’re using West Marginal Way, a caller tells us her vehicle is broken down, with flashers on, on the southbound side in the 4700 block (near the Duwamish Longhouse), and she wants people to take care going past while she awaits a tow.

Passengers aboard a RapidRide C-Line bus are reporting possible injuries after a collision at 35th/Avalon, No visual so far but police say they’re blocking eastbound Avalon at the scene, and they’re looking for a hit-run driver who might have caused the crash, possibly after leaving an apartment/condo garage nearby.
4:24 PM: Thanks for the tips. The West Seattle low bridge is malfunctioning again; one reader who’s been waiting says they were told it could be a “few minutes or few hours” – the gates aren’t working. So use an alternate route for now (we know, easier said than done if you’re using human-powered transportation).
6:14 PM: Still not fixed, after more than two hours.
8:43 PM: Just checked the camera for the first time in a while. The bridge is back in service. We’ll follow up with SDOT.
11:47 PM: Police are blocking Admiral at Olga because of what’s described as a one-car crash on the embankment. No visual, and no mention of serious injuries, but they’re trying to head off the eastbound/southbound traffic before the crash scene.
12:44 AM: One lane still closed on eastbound/southbound Admiral.
12:49 AM … and now Admiral’s fully open again.
1:42 PM: Avoid the westbound west end of the West Seattle Bridge for a while – another crash reported.
1:55 PM: From beneath the bridge at south end of Admiral, you can see traffic moving, slowly. Radio traffic indicates it’s a flipped vehicle.
2:01 PM: Thanks to Kyle Pommer for the photo.
2:27 PM: Commenter Jenny reports all lanes have reopened. We’re checking with SFD on injuries.
2:39 PM: SFD spokesperson Kaila Lafferty tells us, “The occupant of the vehicle got out on their own. Crews assessed an approximately 24-year-old man but no injuries were reported. No transport.”
Thanks for the tips – the changeover has happened on the Admiral Way Bridge, as earthquake-resistance work continues, and traffic is now using the north half of the bridge (which is technically two bridges), with the south half closed to traffic. The outside northernmost lane is handling westbound traffic, and the inside lane is handling eastbound. Pedestrians are also now routed to the north side of the bridge. Fairmount Avenue beneath the bridge also remains closed for the duration of the project, into early next year. And commenter Admiral 2009 notes that today’s changes mean Walnut Avenue SW is closed at Admiral.
6:01 AM: Good morning! It’s Friday, November 1st, two days to go until Daylight Saving Time ends (2 am Sunday, we “fall back” one hour, into Standard Time).
WEATHER + SUNRISE/SUNSET TIMES
Showery today, high in the low 50s. Today’s sunrise will be at 7:54 am, while sunset will be at 5:50 pm – second-to-last sunset before the time change.
ROAD WORK
*The Admiral Way Bridge seismic project continues; traffic may move from the south half of the bridge to the north half today (depending on the weather). 9:42 AM UPDATE: A reader says the switch is being made right now.
*The Delridge pedestrian-bridge earthquake-safety project also continues, with narrowing at Delridge/Oregon.
*Monday alert re: East Marginal:
On Monday, November 4, we will fully close East Marginal Way S between S Spokane St and S Hanford St to install the permanent lane striping on the new sections of the roadway. Access to and from East Marginal Way S from S Horton St and S Hinds St will also be closed. The closure will be in effect from 7 AM to 5 PM.
Routes for people, walking, rolling, and biking will be maintained on E Marginal Way S but may have reroutes to avoid active construction. Please be alert for signage and flaggers directing traffic when traveling through the area.
This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled due to rain.
