UPDATE: Crashed car on SB 35th SW at Roxbury

9:36 PM: Avoid 35th/Roxbury for a while. That crash is blocking the southbound side, and police have described it as a hit-run. SFD is there but we don’t have definitive word on whether anyone is hurt; we were watching the live camera before police arrived and it appeared a woman, man, and dog from the car walked across the street. Police are calling for a tow for the car; it looks like debris cleanup will be needed too.

10:40 PM: Scene has cleared.

Just FYI – the woman said her dog is injured and ran away while she was trying to deal with everything. It’s a black pit bull named Lyric

Nailed it….    My first thought was a hit and run.   Today’s events are becoming to predictable.

It sounded like there was a car peeling out or gunning an engine at the time of the accident, right before the impact – maybe the car that fled or caused the accident?Interested to hear details. Would be great if those cameras actually recorded instead of just live feed so people were less likely to get away with hit and runs.

Agree.  Put traffic cameras everywhere, and allow prosecution of any and all violations caught on camera: missing plates, failure to yield to pedestrians, hit and run, etc.   I think hit and run has become widespread due to an increase in unlicensed and uninsured drivers.  There’s hardly any traffic (or parking) enforcement by SPD anymore, and cameras would at least help.

I saw it from my balcony. A collision occurred at the intersection, though it’s unclear to me who was at fault. Skid marks indicate that the red car attempted to brake suddenly, possibly after taking the corner too wide. The red vehicle then struck a silver Chevrolet Avalanche.

After the impact, the driver of the Avalanche appeared to hesitate, rocking the truck back and forth as if trying to decide whether to leave. Eventually, the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of a nearby chiropractic office.

Bystanders attempted to prevent him from leaving the scene. However, the individual continued driving towards them. He then reversed, drove over the sidewalk, and fled eastbound on Roxbury Street.

At the scene, a small black pit bull appeared visibly distressed. I observed the dog shaking while the woman (in the red car), pulled her sharply by the leash. Additionally, the horn on one of the vehicles involved was stuck in the “on” position and had to be manually disconnected due to the continuous blaring. I’m sure that frightened her and got the attention of many people walking around. I have to think that the man who drove away in the truck was recorder by someone! Or maybe the people trying to stop him remember the license plate number. Not shortly after the truck left, it appeared that the woman called someone and they came and picked her up. She just left her car in the middle of the road. Of course the SFD and SPD arrived.
