Take it to the limit – but not beyond: Bridge patrols today

Two people have now texted us about a big police presence on The Bridge, watching for speeders (and one of those texters got a ticket). (We’re not blowing anything by mentioning this – police have told us repeatedly, they’d rather you know and not speed and therefore stay safe!) And don’t forget the Alki/Harbor Ave traffic restrictions, now just a few hours away.

    Big deal.
So they show up one day out of 200 and write a few tickets.
The rest of the year, one has to hope he is not rear-ended while maintaining the 45 mph while most of the rest of the drivers blow past at speeds over 60.
I wonder if a case could be made against the City should an accident occur under those circumstances.
    How?
The bridge is designed for speeds over 70 mph.
The City rarely and sporadically enforces the 45 mph limit,
causing an aura of ‘tolerance’, resulting in a playground for the boys’ toys, and the folks who try to maintain the ridiculous 45 mph are the chumps.
It is an ‘attractive nuisance’ or something like that.
They should bump the limit to maybe 50, and install speed-cams with automatic ticketing.
Maybe we could make enough off of them to provide some decent bus services.

Jeez, I just got pulled over on Roxbury (eastbound towards the Safeway) for going 32 in a 20 mph school zone. But isn’t school out for the summer?

I asked the officer if there had been any accidents that were making them concentrate on this area, and he said no. I guess they’re simply enforcing the 20 mph limit on Roxbury strictly as their everyday policy.

Sorry, comment time is over.
