Late-night leftovers from a busy West Seattle news day

Here are a few things we just didn’t get to – more video from the Coast Guard tall-ship arrival (including a chopper flyby), baby announcement, new sign:

First, two clips from our midafternoon stakeout at Duwamish Head watching for the Coast Guard tall ship Eagle to arrive – first came this Coast Guard double flyby:

The ship unfortunately didn’t have its sails up. But a zoom view revealed a rather stately sight just the same:

Now, the baby announcement. This has probably been up on the window at Forsythe Studio in The Junction for a while, given the date; we just noticed it today:

What makes this particularly noteworthy is the proud mom, shown here with her newborn son in the photo that’s up inside the salon too:

That’s Dez, who you met in a video clip here on WSB back in April, when she was looking for her missing Boston Terrier “Daisy” and put up what seemed like hundreds of flyers around West Seattle. Unfortunately, the Forsythe folks tell us, “Daisy” is still missing (photo’s still up on our Pets page, too) … but we wanted to congratulate Dez.

Last and considering the preceding, least, a sign change at the former Exxon station at California/Andover … on our way to what turned out to be the biggest story of the day, we spotted the new permanent sign ready to go up:

This comes three months after temporary banners went up covering the old Exxon signage (WSB report here).

Can’t pull up the tall ship pix. I take it the flyby was done last night w/about 4-5 jets ih tight formation directly overhead between Andover & Charlestown? Husband & I heard them coming & ran out just in time to see them fly over across the street & then gone from sight ? (house & tree blocked view). Very low flight. Hoping this is the same as curiosity’s got me….

no, this was two coast guard helicopters, between 3:45 and 4, one white/orange, one all orange, flying right over duwamish head and skirting the shoreline on the way to escort the tall ship in … TR

We were outside and saw the jets fly over West Seattle too – it was around 6:00-6:30ish?? My son thought they were the Blue Angels, but they were slightly larger and gray in color. Very cool to see fly over the house.

This is also confirmed on MyBallard, one of the few other sites really doing serious neighborhood news around town:

We’re going to have to get the Mariners to make up an “aviation announcement” list … or at least we’ll make a note for Canada Day next year as well as Armed Forces Day, which we noted earlier in the season!!!

waiting to har your report on the North Admiral

play area. I am concerned that this is a front

for a private business (see cometaseattle.com).

Should the City of Seattle Dept. of neighbor-

    hoods fund private enterprises??

Sorry, comment time is over.
