Other local “brewers”

We are by no means Starbucks-bashers. You’re bound to find us going thru the new WS drive-thru every so often (especially since it’s right on our path to the bridge). But just for grins, we want to give a shoutout to the many other fine non-mega-mega-chain coffee providers around town (including those for whom coffee is not the main business). This is strictly from memory (and Googling), so please leave a comment to let me know who I’m missing:

Caffe Ladro, Hotwire, C & P, Tully’s on Alki and in Morgan Junction, Diva, Red Cup, Capers, Freshy’s, Bird on a Wire, Al’s Deli & Espresso, Thriftway, Metro Market, Revolution Coffee & Art, Uptown in The Junction and on Delridge, Sleepless, Alki Bakery, Coffee to a Tea with Sugar, Easy Street, Bubbles, Homefront, Zatz, Bikes and Brew, PCC, Verite/Cupcake Royale, Infinity, Alki Mail and Dispatch, and of course the ever-salubrious Java Bean.

Good question, though “best” is so subjective – My very favorite WS latte is the “Amazing Grace” at Easy Street. Hotwire, Uptown, and Bird on the Wire are other faves. And you?

You forgot Cafe Rozella on Delridge just inside the Roxbury line – a great spot with live music Fridays and Saturdays for those who haven’t been down there. There’s also a Thai or Cambodian coffee house right across the street and quite a few more down 16th in White Center, which, soon enough, will be part of Seattle and, ergo, part of West Seattle.

Rozella is good, just got some Bird on A Wire this AM, but I’ve got to give a strong endorsement to Uptown for their Orange Mocha! Great stuff!

As a consummate coffee geek, I have to admit that I haven’t tried everything on your list, but there is a huge grooup of people at http://www.coffeegeek.com and other sites that are making the push to promote “The Third Wave” of coffee, where coffee is no longer consumed as a beverage, but experienced as a fine wine. See this link for more info. These people (including myself) dream about coffee and reaching coffee perfection (google for “cup of excellence” and “god shot”.

I admit, I’m a complete amature to these giants, but I do enjoy a well poured espresso, and I can tell you that the best bean for my buck is West Seattle is at the hotwire, with Java Bean by Luna Park a close second, and Diva/Lladro/Metropolitan Mkt tied for third. I have to add the caveat though, that I’ll rarely buy a coffee drink anymore, why should you when you can take a steaming, fresh pound home and keep it all to yourself.
