Revised proposal for Admiral Safeway now online; review Thursday

Though the King County Council appointment drama isn’t over yet, and we’re not leaving the courthouse till it is, we’re moving on to add some more news to the site while they continue meeting behind closed doors: This Thursday night, the Southwest Design Review Board takes up two projects in a meeting at Youngstown Arts Center. Last week, the design proposal for the 6:30 pm review, the new Transitional Resources building, became available at the city website, as we reported here; tonight, the packet for the 8 pm review, the Admiral Safeway redevelopment project, is available – you can download it here (20 MB PDF). This could be the final review for what Admiral Neighborhood Association leaders call “maybe the biggest development project in this neighborhood, ever,” if board members give the plan their blessing.

Wow, beautiful plans. When this comes together it’s really going to make our junction upscale. Nice for increasing property values.

It’s a great center for everyone who lives within walking distance. But I’m concerned about the ease-of-use for people driving in. I didn’t see one shopping cart pictured in the plans. (Maybe I missed them?) From what I can tell, if you’re going by car you have to park on the roof and then walk down some stairs to get to the groceries-? How do you get your cart back to your car?

Or are the parking spots on the ground level reserved for Safeway? I imagine that with all the new retail customers and apartment dwellers those parking spaces will become pretty scarce.

It’s looking hard to access via car. Help me out here, am I reading the plans wrong?

When will this project break ground/be completed if it is approved?

I disagree…so much bulk and density…for those home around this project proptery value will drop like a rock with the increase congestion..and density…great for those who are wealthy back in North Admiral…hmmm former mayor lives there who had this brain storm of destroying our neighborhoods

PF…Safeway owns this property. It was their idea. Much of the property is unused right now, like the back (south) parking lot, unless you’re a Lafayette parent. I live in an apartment directly across the street (east) of the property. It’s an eyesore now…so many improvements to our community will take place…trees, lighting, maybe even safety. There are no houses surrounding the immediate property, so…what are you talking about? Those 2 blocks away? And if you truly think that all who live in North Admiral are wealthy, you are really sadly mistaken.

alki resident…there will be an elevator to get back to the rooftop parking. The ground floor parking is indeed for Safeway. The people who live in the residential area will have their own designated parking spots on the roof, gated and separate from Safeway parking.

JS you are ignort around the zoning that allows such high density was approved under this mayors watch…do you really believe that the infrasture, Admiral Way and California will handle the increase trafffic with the increase in condos that bring more people…have you watched what has happened to those areas where this kind of density and increase in population has occured…it is not postive…history has demonstrated this and sadely it will happen here as well…sit back and watch

Sorry, comment time is over.
