Another sunset sight: Still-beached boat

Also seen at sunset: West Seattle’s latest derelict boat, still beached at Constellation Park. We first mentioned it a week ago; it apparently floated off for a while, then we started hearing about it again a few days later, and published this Saturday night.

More people noticed it today, including the texter who sent these photos this evening. We’re still working to find out who’s ultimately accountable for it. Over the weekend, we reached the U.S. Coast Guard, which told us to contact the state Department of Natural Resources, which has a Derelict Vessel Removal Program. They haven’t returned our messages yet; we’ve also inquired with Seattle Parks, since the boat is aground on one of their beaches.We’ll update whe we finally reach whomever has a plan to deal with it.

One of the previous photos appeared to show an Idaho registration number (on the bow — the pointy end). It can’t be all that hard to locate the owner.

I thought in one of the other posts that the Coast Guard had talked to the man that owns the boat. He said at that time that he did not need any help. I think this was before it became beached. I am not sure what his mind set is to just keep leaving it in various places? I don’t think he has a place to keep it?

I talked to the ranger today. They’ve given the registered owner notice but they have to wait until Aug 24 to remove it if the owner doesn’t. Registered on our claims not to have had the boat for at least 10 years. DNR will wait until high tide to tow it away

Jill. Hasn’t owned in 10 years? Sounds suspicious. If he sold it the record of title transfer would be in the system. Sounds more like he’s trying to duck paying for his abandonment of the boat. Hopefully state holds him accountable unless he can provide actual documentation.
