FOLLOWUP: Barton bus-zone paving progress

Two weeks into the repaving project on SW Barton in the bus-layover zone along the north side of Roxhill Park, SDOT is providing a progress report. This week, crews excavated beneath the street, digging up dirt and concrete, with an archaeologist overseeing the process. Here’s what SDOT says is up next:

Next week (April 20–23), we’ll prepare the newly trenched area to be filled with lightweight cellular concrete after excavation is complete.

On the week of April 27th, we’ll fill the trench with lightweight concrete. Since the area is above a peat bog with challenging soil, this concrete will support buses and regular traffic without environmental impact, according to SDOT’s Environmental Team.

… If you have any questions or concerns during the project, our team is here to help. You can contact us by emailing SWBartonLayover@seattle.gov or calling 206-400-7570.

SDOT says the work is likely to last until fall. Until then, buses that normally travel on SW Barton are using SW Trenton; the project website has the map and details.

This should extend all the way from 30th to 26th — Then Next year Roxbury from 16th to 35th – doubt me — take some rides on H, 21 or C — outta Westwood village!

Archaeologist?  What do they think they may find under the road?  Does SDOT have their own archaeologist or is there one shared by all the city departments?  If they find dinosaurs, will that delay the project?

I have so many questions. Like, I want to sit and interview the road construction archaeologist.

        Thank you!

A lot of earth disturbing work legally has to have an archeologist screening the soils, usually a consultant hired under contract. They rarely find anything

But when they do, their knowledge and expertise is essential for identifying what is found, keeping it safe and intact, and allowing it to be properly preserved.

Westbound drivers  exiting the southwest exit onto Barton do not have enough room to turn without crossing over the temporary line into oncoming eastbound traffic.  I noticed today that one of the construction crew was standing on the west construction area where the original westbound lane was reduced to east west lanes watching as drivers approach the construction area.  This is where more attention is needed on placing the orange cones, reducing speeds and more caution signage to prevent accidents.

All bus routes need evaluation! They didn’t plan well when making the last changes.

Are they also fixing the main east bound lane? That is a terrible road with all the raised and lowered slabs.

Next is Roxbury from 8th to 35th – Rob S. get your Transportation budget going.  You failed this last session.  Payment is sinking due to Buses and other large over weight vehicles.

LOL – payment is sinking due to buses….yes! payment and pavement is sinking.  Watch out on eastbound Barton & 29th where the dig starts – there is a very deep drop off into the pit! I am surprised there is not more of a temporary barrier but fingers crossed no one goes over the edge.

I don’t like how they had to redo Delridge way to support the bus weight.  So they tore up Delridge,  worse mess ever. But you go into White Center,  nothing was done there to accommodate the bus weight.  The road on 15th keeps getting asphalt patches that last maybe two weeks.  Ridiculous.Just got the tab renewal for my 25 year old truck.  It keeps going up every year.  $250. This state can kiss my backside

Delridge is city.  White Center and south is King County.  Yes, 15th is a mess, but the county is WAY slower with paving projects.

Very good,  and it is called King County Metro,  not City Metro.
