UPDATE: 2,000+-customer, 1-hour power outage after tree limb falls on wire along Highland Park Way hill

4:21 PM: More news from Highland Park Way hill today – this time, a power outage. More than 2,000 customers are out after, according to a 911 dispatch, tree limb(s) fell on wires at Highland Park Way and Othello. Updates to come.

4:38 PM: SCL confirms “tree/vegetation” as the cause.

5:24 PM: Thanks to Kay Kirkpatrick for the photo! City Light crews are on the scene clearing branches, she reports.

5:26 PM: And moments later, we’re getting reports of restoration. The SCL map shows everyone’s back on.

    Interesting. Thanks for the update. I live in the Genessee Hill area and was streaming my son’s baseball game at this time and the lights flickered several times in a row. Hope your power is restored soon, my neighbors!

    I’m super impressed with City Light. I was expecting at least a couple hours. We had snacks and played games, so it was fun. It’s also the National Day of Unplugging, so I guess we checked that off, too! :)

    fun fact this happens several times a year along this road…its old steep and narrow from the standpoint of the road cut side slopes which tend to be unstable, causing trees to move and die, resulting in frequent power outages. City has a proposed project to take out a downhill traffic lane and replace it with a protected bike lane. unfortunately it won’t address this issue since there is no proposal to lay back these over steepened slopes and plant trees that don’t die/fall as frequently. thanks as always to WSB to covering this and related stories.
