PHOTOS: ‘We’re Still Standing’ march to The Junction, report #1

1:56 PM: WSB contributing photojournalist Dave Gershgorn just sent that photo of the We’re Still Standing march headed southbound on California SW toward The Junction. Police monitoring the march (SOP for protests) radioed to dispatch a few minutes ago that marchers had passed SW Bradford and so far “minimal traffic disruption.” We’ll have a full report with more photos later.

4:54 PM: Before that report from WSB’s Macey Wurm, which we’ll publish separately later tonight, we’re adding more of Dave Gershgorn’s photos now:

This march/protest was planned weeks ago, but it had an extra edge today after another deadly shooting in Minnesota by an ICE agent.

Thank you all who are marching! I’m with you in spirit since I cannot be there in person.

    Excellent organizing!!!!

Thank you for those who speak up and march! As a wife of an immigrant and a daughter of an immigrant and friends with many this is a very scary time. For those that think ICE is just going after the “bad guys” I encourage you to watch a few different news sources to see other sides of the story that you may be missing. It’s start with “them” (immigrants) but it could be you next for any reason.

The calls to abolish I.C.E. are foolish and premature, but the agency needs to be reined in and be held accountable, and especially when they are involved in the death of an American citizen;  we can’t have Kangeroo courts.

    • TidePool January 24, 2026 (5:52 pm)

They murdered a citizen in cold blood today. An ICU nurse protecting a woman from being hurt. Are you really going to defend them? They’re already acting outside of the laws, why would they care about “regulation”?Abolish ICE. Protect your neighbors regardless of their citizenship.

Citizens, plural, very sadly. Another man was shot and killed in Minneapolis today.

Kangaroo courts are associated with trumped-up charges and pre-ordained convictions. Federal officers are almost beyond the reach of prosecution. With the current administration prosecution is pointless because of the virtually guaranteed presidential pardon. ICE is irrevocably tainted and must be replaced with a new, much smaller, highly professional agency, staffed with absolutely no one from ICE.

Similar to calls to abolish police almost 6 years ago current calls to abolish ICE are not a good idea. A number of politicians and citizens flip flopped on the calls to abolish police because they came to understand police are needed. Same as with ICE.  I agree with Scarlett’s comment that ICE needs to be reined — in big time! That probably won’t happen until there is a change in president and congress gets their act together on immigration reform. Congress had a plan for immigration reform until the current president dumped it. Time to dump the current president.

ICE has only been around for 20 years.  We were fine as a nation without them for 225 years.  We’ll be fine without them now.  What they have become is SO far from what they were intended to be, there is no rescuing them.  Time to scrap it and start over.

      • Lauren January 24, 2026 (9:30 pm)

Something I don’t think many realize: ICE as an organization was formed in 2003. It’s not like, entrenched in our country’s history. It’s a recent invention.

        • Gandy January 25, 2026 (1:40 am)

          Yup. Abolish it.

They’ve had 20 years to make the case that they’re a necessary/beneficial agency. Instead, they’re hiring January 6-ers to murder people.

We don’t “rein in” fascists. We arrest them, confine them, and put them on trial, like we did at Nuremburg.

    • Angry citizen January 24, 2026 (10:08 pm)

Scarlett the one who rants against homeless encampments being removed but seems okay with ICE and their lawlessness which now includes 2 murders they’re intentionally covering up despite multiple video documentation. Shame on you!

    • Ihhh January 24, 2026 (11:33 pm)

Let me correct your statement: especially when the are involved in the death and false prosecution of any human being.

    • Ivan Weiss January 25, 2026 (11:43 am)

The idea that ICE can be “reined in” is preposterous. Tell me the difference between ICE and the Gestapo. You can’t, because there isn’t any. Immigration violations are CIVIL offenses, and in most cases they are misdemeanors. Serious and felonious offenses are covered by existing civil courts and immigration courts. Funding for immigration courts has been slashed by this fascist, racist “administration,” so that they can carry out their campaign of ethnic cleansing with a a militarized gang of thugs, and their campaign of intimidation and murder against American citizens who dare to even question, much less oppose them. ICE needs to be destroyed, root and branch. Ask yourself how the Obama administration deported many more people under due process of law without resorting to this unnecessary show of force.

Listen, WSB: I know you guys won’t post this comment because “alarmism” or whatever, but sometimes there is a duty to warn people of what’s ahead. The creeping civil war in this country just got a speed boost. I’ve seen it all before. Do you want to know how the civil war started in my country in the early 90’s? In a soccer game, with a brutal police “action” against the unarmed civilians. Sound familiar? From that point on, it was all downhill, fast and spiraling. The war (or at least the full insurrection act and the state of emergency with a full suspension of civil rights) is coming, get ready and good luck to us all.

Remarkable! Eventually we will begin to believe in Humanity again.  The terrorist in the White House will soon be gone and WE WILL REPAIR!  Lots of good work to do after he and his hacks are in the dust bins of history.RIP to all victims.

    Nice work, neighbors!

  • Gandy January 25, 2026 (1:42 am)

Thank you to all who marched! On a related note, the next No Kings protest date should be announced this coming week. ❌👑✊✊✊

In a FREE COUNTRY, we could walk around in public without having to show papers. In a FREE COUNTRY, we could walk around in public taking pictures of government employees working for us, without getting shoved or shot.If we want to live in a FREE COUNTRY again, each and every one of us can talk it over with family, friends and neighbors – joining an existing organization like those in the article is a good start! Those who went before us learned lessons we can use, if we are smart enough to follow them. Movements like the Civil Rights movement did not descend from the clouds above; it was built from the ground up by people like you and me!

  • Susan Harrison January 25, 2026 (5:00 pm)
