UPDATE: Death investigation on north side of The Junction

2:17 AM: Police are in the 4400 block of California SW, where a person was found dead early today outside a business building on the west side of the street. SFD medics were summoned but they told dispatch the person “was an obvious DOA” and they canceled the response quickly. There’s been no word on the circumstances or whether it’s considered suspicious; we’ll be following up later this morning.

11:43 AM: Though they’re not releasing other details, SPD tells us the report title indicates that this is a suspected case of death by suicide. It’s now up to the Medical Examiner to determine the cause and identify the victim.

If you’re having thoughts of self-harm, the 988 hotline is available 24/7.

Are there any more details to share? This is near my home and it’s concerning (and sad).

I’m following up with police but they’re not likely to be able to tell me much more than whether it was ruled suspicious or not. There’s nothing online about a homicide investigation, which suggests “not,” but I’ll update when I hear back.

The only thing in sight this morning were a pair of blue latex gloves in the street at the southbound bus stop across from the post office.

    This is awful.

I was the one who found them and I dunno if Im okay to share, but I agree with the preliminary assumption. because the light was on inside the business and I never see the light on and it also seemed like it was one wound. There were also no signs of a struggle that I could see. Anyone living near the junction knows what the trucks sound like loading into qfc , the “crack” of the metal lift smacking the ground. I had heard something similar around 1am, but thought it sounded strange and more like a gun. Did anyone else hear anything? Anyway I took my dog out for our final walk before bed and tragically came across this man. I’m hoping it’s not the guy who lived/worked there or maybe he owned it, but the few times I had seen him he was wearing a similar hat to the one next to the man I found.  I just wanted to share so our neighbors have more context . If not allowed to, or is inappropriate, please delete I mean no harm and offer my condolences to the family. Thanks for letting me share.

The ME’s list today (Friday) identifies the victim as the person you thought it might have been. He was 67 years old.

Hey Neighbor. This is actually a relative of the man you found outside Courtesy Accounting. I appreciate you for finding and reporting him, and I am sorry for what you may have seen. Please seek someone to talk to if you are having a hard time. He just lost his wife a month and a half ago, and he was going through a hard time. Anyone who reads this, please remember that your life is important and you mean so much to this world. The world would not be a better place without you, no matter what mistakes you think you have made in life.

Kind words, and words that a lot of people need to hear.  Thanks.

Very sad news.We passed through that area around 9:30pm Tuesday night, walking north bound on the east side of California. There was a blue canopy set up in the Post Office parking lot with a crew of mechanics working on the USPS vehicles that evening. I do not know how late they worked, but am curious if they noticed anything going on across the street.

    • Just wondering October 2, 2025 (2:16 pm)

I wonder if the USPS people were installing the new drive through mail box which is there now?

      • Patience October 3, 2025 (12:37 am)

No, that box was up and running, and nowhere near where they were actually working on the mail trucks.

This was very hard for us to hear.   This gentleman was well liked.   We knew him for about 28 years and it is very sad to have this news.   As Lepsum stated above, he was having a hard time after his wife died.   We had  joined him on his walk and we talked just days before this.   We’d be interested if anything else is found out.   If Lepsum wishes to talk to us about this, and it is okay to do so,  contact us through WSB.

Sorry, comment time is over.
