UPDATE: Crash at 16th/Sullivan sends one person to hospital

10:01 PM: Seattle Fire has a big response headed to a crash at 16th SW/SW Sullivan – firefighters have told dispatch they’ll have to extricate someone from the crashed vehicle.

10:03 PM: The person is now out so they’re downsizing the response. But 16th is closed, Thistle to Cloverdale, and that’s expected to last a while.

10:48 PM: Photo added. And as commenters remind us, 16th just south of the scene is marked for speed humps/cushions that SDOT is about to install. (We’ve been awaiting SDOT info after a tip just before the holiday weekend.)

ADDED MONDAY MORNING: The 29-year-old driver was taken to a hospital by private ambulance, indicating his injuries were not life-threatening. As commenters note, he hit parked cars; SPD called for tow trucks for three vehicles in all, including the driver’s.

I live nearby and I’m surprised we don’t see more crashes like this.  I hope no one is hurt… but this person was absolutely pedal to the metal northbound from Henderson until the crash at Sullivan.  This kind of driving is common on this stretch of 16th SW.  I noticed the other day that there are some speed bumps marked for installation, but I think they were just north of Sullivan.  Seems like we may need more bumps between Henderson and Holden…

Yeah, I asked SDOT about the speed hump plans Thursday, didn’t get a reply before offices closed for the holiday. Three sets, I drove to look – north and south of Cloverdale, one by Trenton. Hoping to have more info tomorrow. Heading over to the scene now since no pics have come in.

Yes this was the result of insane reckless speeding along 16th.  They are starting work on the speed bumps tomorrow.  It’s just outside our house and we heard the driver lose control and crash.

Yep 16th Sw is closed off @ cloverdale the dude driving that charger was doing about 80-90mph lost control when he came upon that speed diverter in the intersection and totaled 3-4 cars out

Speeding on 16th has been getting worse every year. I hope the plan is to continue the speed humps all the way up to Holden like they had marked out a few years ago.

The answer to speeding and crashes isn’t speed humps. It’s traffic calming, road narrowing, and and giving our street back to neighborhoods. And yeah, enforcement. It’s a wonder to me that beach drive is on the short list for speed cameras and nots roads like 16th or Delridge, where people live and are at risk of harm from these idiots.

I have a new saying…”Phoned or stoned “See a lot of situations where speed is the primary contributing factor. Everything I’ve seen so far is that people are either found or stoned. They’re distracted. They’re not driving. Sometimes it’s just that they’re not paying attention driving. The folks that are driving really fast focused I don’t see them getting an accidents. Even the kids racing. But unfortunately almost everybody is either phoned or stoned or zoned.I say that as a person who mostly commutes by bike.

How about taking away licenses of such reckless speeders?

    • BlairJ July 7, 2025 (10:10 am)

That is assuming they even have a license.

Sorry, comment time is over.
